Arizona Sheriff: Border Patrol Abandoning Border Because It's Too Dangerous (Video)

Sheriff Larry Dever of Cochise County, Arizona told reporters this week that border patrol officials are pulling their men away from the border because it’s too dangerous.

The border patrol managers are also afraid of cross border fighting that could stir up an international incident.
CNS News reported:
Sheriff Larry Dever of Cochise County, Ariz., one of four Arizona counties contiguous with the U.S-Mexico border, said Friday that the U.S. Border Patrol has pulled back from parts of the border in his and neighboring counties because manning those areas has become too dangerous.
“And you frankly have Border Patrolmen–and I know this from talking to Border Patrol agents—who will not allow their agents to work on the border because it is too dangerous,” Dever told CNSNews.com in a videotaped interview. “Now what kind of message is that for crying out loud?”
Dever, a native of Cochise County, has been in local law enforcement in the county for three decades. He was elected the county sheriff in 1996.
Dever stressed that the Border Patrolmen are ready and willing to perform their mission of securing the border, but that Border Patrol managers had determined that in “some places” the danger was too great and they wanted to avoid the risk of an international incident such as a cross-border firefight.

Much as I respect Mr. Dever, his statement that Border Patrol Agents are directed to avoid certain areas because it is too dangerous is simply not accurate. While I cannot elaborate how I know this, it is simply not true that Agents are avoiding certain areas out of danger of firefights. Some areas may have more patrol coverage than others due to manpower needs, but none are deliberately avoided along the border.

5. Maintain forces as necessary, including personnel and equipment necessary to repel a possible federal government force attempting to halt your state from securing itself.
6. AFTER initial engagements ‘make their point’, offer a plan for legal entry of foreign invasion personnel that will ensure security of your state.

Until these border Sheriff’s call out the posse, which is the legal way of increasing manpower under their control, and affords posse members protection under the law, I just cannot take the “oh dear, Washington please help me” too seriously. If these Sheriff’s were serious and used their legal powers, They would have a pool of manpower to call upon far exceeding the need. Plus, logistics people, medical help, food and equipment donations, training personnel, etc would be provided by Americans eager to help keep the armed part of the posse in the field.
Sheriff, say the word. Or quit blat-a$$ing and quit your office and let someone who will honor his oath and his duty to protect American citizens do the job if you are unwilling to. That goes for all the Sheriffs in all the border states.

This is a peculiar reason. Pulling away to avoid a potential “cross border international scene” is nonsense. If anything starts flying over the US/Mexico border from Mexico, it’s Mexico’s fault. The USA would have every international self-defense right to deal with them directly or humiliate them thru the UN or whatever face-losing venues out there. Up on the LINE is the place our people should be.
That’s for the paper-pushers, the reality of course is very dangerous. It’s getting nasty and the armaments are way beyond what sheriffs’ departments have or are trained for. We would need our military to maintain a credible line. Without the help of a physical barrier, no military can patrol that much open ground in any effective manner.
As long as the POTUS holds our national resources back, Arizona citizens and law enforcement are at a huge disadvantage.
The POTUS is NOT allowing for the common defense.

While Sheriff’s are not above the law, they are operate above and beyond federal control in their counties. It takes an arrest warrant signed by the president to effect them. While the first Kenyan might try that, any Sheriff worth his salt would stand up and beat a kangaroo court set up by the first jester.
Ramos and Compean were federal property (employees), thus disposable for political gain. County Sheriffs are no such creatures, otherwise Sheriff Joe, who uses his posse daily, would be locked up by the feds to keep illegals on the street.

Is this now a no mans land? With a fence off of the table, are we going to establish a DMZ? A few well placed land mines would go a long way toward cutting out unauthorized border traffic.

With so much AZ ranch land BLM, wouldn’t be the least surprised if Obama terminates those leases. Been a pet peeve of the envirofascists for years that ranchers rent vast expanses of gov’t owned crap land for little to run cattle on them .. and keep the land in reasonable condition to boot. They’ve been arguing for years to get rid of that arrangement. This border insecurity plays right into their hands. The ranchers could lose their 100 year leases, or be forced to sell in a thinly disguised “taking” by the gov’t, solely because the same gov’t refuses to uphold the Constitutional duty to protect citizens.

The end of the article says CNS provided a copy of the Sheriff’s words to federal border personnel. Federal personnel confirmed there are areas where apprehensions are not going on, they know electronically people are coming over but don’t do anything about it. This doesn’t involve the sheriff.

This move is not unusual and has been part of the problem with fighting crime in areas where the police can’t handle the natives without starting an all out war.
For example, in Tampa Florida, just up the coast from me, the police were ordered by the female mayor not to enter a projects for any reason during a series of riots. They watched in frustration as the locals flipped over and burned cars inside the target area. The mayor chose avoiding an incident over the safety of the citizens inside the projects.
When the criminals run the area the police are limited in options for response. Basically, if you send in the police there will be bloodshed. Politicians can hide chaos and out of control crime better than they can hide dead bodies and spent casings.

These actions will not lessen the possibility of a cross border incident. It will simply move the de facto border some (50?) or so miles into Arizona. The violence will not let up. It is war at the border and our politicians have simply brought the line of departure inland.

We have over 300 million people in this Country
