The president told ABC that his family is not that far removed from what most Americans are going through right now.
Really?
Barack and Michelle reportedly blew $70,000 for their date night in New York City last year.
Things are tough.
The Sun-Times reported, via FOX Nation:
President Obama says he can relate to the plight of Americans striving in the struggling economy to pay bills while saving for their kids’ education.
He says he and first lady Michelle Obama took a hit like everybody else when the economy nearly collapsed, telling ABC that a college fund for daughters Malia and Sasha has gone “up and down” with the stock market.
Obama says the first couple is “not that far removed from what most Americans are going through.” He tells the network “it was just a few years ago that we had high credit card balances, we had two kids, thinking about college. We had our own retirement accounts, wondering if we were going to be able to get enough assets in there.”

My husband, 47 years old, 28 years of marriage died unexpectedly on March 17, 2010. He was heading to the first job he had in almost 7 months, thank you Mr. President. Ugh. We had a $300k life insurance policy up until months before his passing. Instead I was left with dealing with the social security system. I received nothing, nada, zilch, because I am not 50 years old AND disabled and I don’t have a dependent child. I should mention, I have been a stay at home mom for the past 15+ years. Oh and as for social security, do you know what our govt thinks the value of your loved one is? $255 and God forbid you don’t have the necessary paperwork, or you won’t even receive that.
In the past four months I’ve dealt with unscrupulous lawyers and a mortgage company that won’t speak with me because even though I signed the mortgage papers, I am not on a borrower on the loan. They are literally forcing me into foreclosure because of them giving me wrong information, having to wait on probate papers, etc. Do they care? No, they are more than willing to take the last thing I have. More than willing to put a widow out onto the street.
I could write volumes more. I’ve tried to get my story out there, simply so that other widows/widowers are clued into what happens if you die without a will or a life insurance policy. I may lose everything, I’ve already lost the love of my life and without help will lose everything. But I will be damned if Obama and his ilk can look at my life and theirs, there is no comparison!
If liberals want to ‘spread the wealth’, then let one, just one, step up and help me save my home! It will never happen because they are all hypocrites. They don’t care about the suffering of the American people, the only thing that they care about is padding their bank accounts, living the high life and making sure they leave their families something when they are gone. That’s what my husband wanted to Mr President, but you and your ilk took it all away…..

Most of us didn’t make $5.5 mil last year, flew around the country on the tax-payer’s dime, went on vacation 7 times in 18 months (and had our dogs flown in separate jets), partied weekly (or nightly, depending on the week). There’s not much to say to you that would be of any real comfort.
It’s not until these things happen when we realize how important the Biblical command is to: “aid the widow and the orphan in their affliction.”
You are right to raise the alarm to any married couple that doesn’t have a proper will: PAY a LAWYER to make a WILL, NOW. They are CHEAP ($300 or so) and EASY and avoid incredible hassles and hardships.
ANY decent lawyer has boilerplate will for couples, and will make suggestions so the will is very clear. Waiting for perfection is folly. Boilerplate is 1000X better than no will or a “holographic will” which is the worst way to manifest being cheap. Wanna be cheap, buy your undies at Walmart, rather than cut corners on a legal will. PAY a LAWYER. Tell him or her what your objective is: ie provide for surviving spouse so that he or she can provide for surviving kids. Most people have simple needs, like house to spouse. A basic boilerplate quick, is FAR better than a perfect will too late.
Wills shouldn’t be treated like museum pieces in a frame that are untouched once made. If circumstances change, the WILL should be updated IMMEDIATELY.
People seem to get scared that making a will is some sort of curse. A divorced mother we know balked at the suggestion of a will. When it was pointed out that she’d just spent a bundle to get her assets out of the clutches of a deadbeat dad and with no will, he’d have a further chance to argue to get her assets over her kids if anything happened to her, she was back in the lawyer’s office getting a will. Something to the effect of, “Over my dead body…”
Wills are very useful tools. It’s also a nice experience to have a lawyer working FOR you instead of AGAINST you.

A few weeks ago, I saw an article of the life in a month of W and Laura, complete with pictures. They were overseas for part of that time, and the pictures were of both formal and informal occasions. I was totally struck by the kind, friendly, compassionate, and interested expressions on their faces wherever they were. At the moment I saw those pictures, I thought of the Obamas who always seem to look mean and grumpy. The pics in this post are just more of the same. Seriously, I cannot think of any pics of the Obamas where they look pleasant.
