Lindsey Graham says the tea party will die out.
The Politico reported, via Free Republic:

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) says in a forthcoming article that the tea party movement is “unsustainable” and will “die out” because it lacks vision.

Graham made the comments to The New York Times as part of a profile in Sunday’s magazine written by Robert Draper.

Graham argues throughout the story that the Republican Party will eventually move away from the fringe and join him closer to the political middle but that, for now, it has shifted too far to the right.

“Everything I’m doing now in terms of talking about climate, talking about immigration, talking about Gitmo is completely opposite of where the tea party movement’s at,” Graham says. “The problem with the tea party, I think, is it’s just unsustainable because they can never come up with a coherent vision for governing the country. It will die out.

Graham later says that the GOP has shifted so far that Ronald Reagan would have trouble getting elected in today’s party.

    I’m sorry if I can say that you (Graham) are not what we need, but I don’t need an upstart movement that can manage something as large and un-maneuverable as you might accept as federal government. They would become a part of the problem. And that, grasshopper, is why you failed.

    If you create a giant unmanageable monster, you shouldn’t be surprised if no one wants to have it run well, or on their dime. Make it smaller, accountable, and lawful (maybe even doing what it is supposed to do instead of trying to do everything else) and perhaps someone will bite on the bait. It is at best a suicidal plan.We have all been pushed left by very patient billionaires, public schools, and Hollywood. They were patient, willing to change one mind at a time. Aside from that, what we don’t have are politicians with character. In general, it is worth considering that some elected officials have serious mental and emotional problems and should be seen as such. (Not saying Graham is one, but that there are definitely some).

    Right you are. In short, “they can never come up with a coherent vision for governing the country” because the Tea Partiers envision much less governing of the country and much more protection of the nation that was the initial reason for and purpose of the Federal govt.
