In 2008 Barack Obama admitted during an interview with The San Francisco Chronicle that his cap and trade legislation would cause electricity prices to skyrocket and would kill the coal industry:
Obama admitted that cap and trade will likely cost $700 to $1,400 dollars per US family per year.
Today the Obama Administration began their assault on the American coal industry.
The New York Times reported, via Astute Bloggers:
Acting under federal court order, the Obama administration proposed new air-quality rules on Tuesday for coal-burning power plants that officials said would bring major reductions in soot and smog from Texas to the Eastern Seaboard.
The Environmental Protection Agency is issuing the rules to replace a plan from the administration of President George W. Bush that a federal judge threw out in 2008, citing numerous flaws in the calculation of air-quality effects.
Gina McCarthy, head of the E.P.A.’s air and radiation office, said the new rules would reduce emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides by hundreds of thousands of tons a year and bring $120 billion in annual health benefits. Those benefits, Ms. McCarthy said, include preventing 14,000 to 36,000 premature deaths, 23,000 nonfatal heart attacks, 21,000 cases of acute bronchitis, 240,000 cases of aggravated asthma and 1.9 million missed school and work days.
The rule would substantially reduce the unhealthy smog that shrouds American cities, especially during heat waves like the one now enveloping much of the East.
The cost of compliance to utilities and other operators of smog-belching power plants would be $2.8 billion a year, according to E.P.A. estimates.
“This is attempting to give people cleaner air to breathe,” Ms. McCarthy said.
Of course, that $2.8 billion will be passed on to the American consumer each year. As Obama said in 2008, these new policies will necessarily cause electricity costs to skyrocket.
And just think… It seems like it was just yesterday when Barack Obama was praising the coal industry at a West Virginia coal miner memorial knowing that these policies were on the table.
Disgusting.

A word of advice from someone who has worked in the third world.
Buy a generator. Not one of those little portable 200 hour life ones, but a real diesel or propane/ng generator capable of high duty cycle/long hours.
It will come in handy during the rolling blackouts to come or when Obama’s Dept of Energy decides YOUR new smart meter can be turned off to keep the union hall air conditioning running at full blast.

There is nothing wrong with cleaner air, but new unachievable air-quality rules means that the coal-industry will not be able to reduce their emissions and will be penalized monetarily, which means they will have to pass this burden onto consumers in order to survive. If the coal-industry can’t afford the penalties, they will have to close down. Gee, no coal and no oil – Obama is on a roll. So how do these air-quality rules translate into cleaner air? Oh I get it – no coal industry. Gee it took me a minute.

I live in one of the 3 States Obama has placed bans on coal permits….it’s supposed to be “mountaintop removal” permits…but he didn’t do this in all States that practice this type of coal mining….just Ky., Pa., and WV.
I can tell you your rates will rise! Last Nov. our electric was $142.00. We were burning wood and kept the thermostat at 69 deg. The next month, Dec., it went up to $346! AEP
said they wanted another rate increase due to the price of coal.
Obama went to WV to mourn the miners, the families felt sure he would work with the miners, as they want to keep their jobs….but an article came out that Obama is looking for funds to give to the environmental groups that tied themselves to trees in WV.
By the time Obama is through, we will have no jobs, no fuels, and flooded with more illegals and Visa workers, last yr. he allowed 1.2 MILLION Visa workers here!
I want to know why there is not a coup being planned! I’ve read that retired Generals are fed up with his policies!

When will enough be enough? Why should good people go to bed at night only to toss and turn at the prospect of unemployment and higher fuel cost, and Gasoline, and then wake in the morning only to find he’s up to worse.
Someone please tell me why we don’t DEMAND he release all his papers. I mean he has no qualms about inflicting pain and financial disaster on all of us, so why should we worry about his privacy.

As far as the WV coal mine disaster, I was there, as a 9-1-1 dispatcher.
I watched Obama claim that he would stop the deaths of coal miners, at the Memorial.
As he left, there were people that nobody recognized, chanting things like, “We Love You, Obama”!

The next congress should take a strong look at the EPA charter and change it so that it represents the needs of the citizens at large. The red tape given to the oil spill responders has harmed more birds than Bp. Recalculating effects of coal fuel usage, is a rogue epa pandering to the desires of a nut president. Mold and mesquite pollen are orders of magnitude greater respiratory hazards than the combustion effliuent of the power plants here in Texas. Kill a mesquite save a child…

They can pretend all they want to cover their own behinds, for not forcing him to show his papers before the election, but everyone with 1/2 a brain knows he is a Kenyan born, Indonesian citizen. They are so afraid of the anger of the people, they don’t know what to do.
