Hey, Ben Jealous— POUND SAND!
NAACP President Ben Jealous just tried to weasel his way out of the unpopular, controversial and obviously political resolution passed at the organization’s convention this week. The former civil rights group attacked and smeared the tea party patriots at their convention in Kansas City.
The Politico reported, via Free Republic:

NAACP President Ben Jealous said Thursday that the resolution passed by the group on Wednesday does not call the tea party “racist.”

The resolution the NAACP approved Wednesday at its annual conference in Kansas City alleges that the tea party has used racial epithets against President Barack Obama and has verbally and physically abused African-American members of Congress.

A portion of the resolution does indeed characterize the behavior as “racist,” but Jealous said Thursday during an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” that the resolution was not intended to condemn the entire movement as such.

“We aren’t saying that the tea party is racist,” Jealous said. “What we’re saying is that with their increasing power comes an increasing responsibility to act responsibly…and to call out when they see those things on those signs.”

Jealous argued that racist groups have embraced the tea party movement and said that what the NAACP would like to see one of the movements leaders – whether it be former House Majority Leader Dick Armey or former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin – denounce those elements of the tea party.

“These sort of KKK type groups saying they like the tea party and want to be a part of it, it would just seem someone would call out and say we don’t want them to be a part of it,” he said.

Asked if he thought members of the tea party are racially insensitive, Jealous responded: “No, not at all.”

Unfortunately for Jealous, that is not what was reported on their awful resolution.
The KC Star reported:

The resolution, scheduled for a vote as early as Tuesday by delegates attending the annual NAACP convention in Kansas City, calls upon “all people of good will to repudiate the racism of the Tea Parties, and to stand in opposition to its drive to push our country back to the pre-civil rights era.”

Jealous better start getting his facts straight. You can’t have it both ways, Ben.

For the record… The former civil rights group does not even have the courage to post their resolution online.
How weak.

The NAACP leftists really ought to clean up their own racist mess before they start pointing fingers.

  1. The NAACP has jumped the shark… and they know it!

    C’mon! SHOW US THE DOCUMENT!

  2. “These sort of KKK type groups saying they like the tea party…”

Now he is saying the Tea Party is getting support from the Democrats? Interesting.

Mr. Jealous, learn some history and stop lying about “verbally and physically abused African-American members of Congress”, WHICH NEVER HAPPENED!!!

  3. The NAACP is going to vote and then post the resolution?

Who do they think they are? The US Congress?

  4. Related: NAACP Hosts National Race Card Tournament http://optoons.blogspot.com/2010/07/naacp-hosts-national-race-card.html

  5. “repudiate the racism of the Tea Parties”

    that’s a pretty broad, sweeping, all-inclusive statement

nice try to walk it back, pal

  6. It is too late to say you’re sorry, obama-worshipping moron.

  7. I grew up with a R dad and D mom. One of the things they agreed upon was support of civil rights and the NAACP was seen as a force for good in the 50′s and 60′s.

It has turned into such a bigoted, racist, leftist cauldron of hate that those who grew up with an idealized vision of the group looks upon it as ACORNII. What a despicable group of haters and racial rent-seekers.

  8. TJ asks, “Who do they think they are? The US Congress?”

Close. The Politburo of our most favored identity group. In our caste system of identity politics, they are the Oilbramin (their leader is Oilbrahma, of course).

  9. Remember that old TV show that Leonard Nimoy hosted…”In search of…”

Mr. Nimoy could do one on the NAACP:
    “In search of relevance”!

  10. This is either one of the biggest lies of all time, or Jealous is actually too stupid to understand.

  11. If the NAACP wants to call the Tea Party Racist then let them prove it. They can’t! How about The New Black Panthers shouldn’t they be called out for their racism? I think Mr. Jealous is jealous that the NAACP hasn’t got the passion or the committment of the Tea Party and he has manufactured an issue to try to try to stir up that passion.

Another issue — equally stupid which the NAACP has taken on is trying to force the State of California to make Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch a State Park. Its really amazing how STUPID filters down from the top.

  12. Backpedal, Backpedal, Backpedal. just like the ones boycotting AZ. backpedal, backpedal, backpedal. no wonder the bike doesn’t go foreword.

  13. Well, I’m glad the NAACP had the nerve to to call the Tea Parties out on this subject, even though I know they are wrong on the facts. This way, the Tea Parties get to respond by pointing out that they have evidence that the reports of rude and stupid acts were false.

Remember the false reports were of acts that have no place in our political discussion. And, the rebuttals may have had gotten a lot of play on the web, but not necessarily in the newspapers. This time, the accusation-and-answer made it into the newspapers.

It will help clear the air.

I think the hard-working, ethical black families in this country exist in greater numbers than some people would have us believe, and that they are full of people who are natural allies to the Tea Partiers.

  14. his last name- Jealous- fits his victim mentality and thus-his character…
    C-CS

  15. And the NAACP keeps digging its own grave.

  16. “What we’re saying is that with their increasing power comes an increasing responsibility to act responsibly…and to call out when they see those things on those signs.”

so the NAACP responsibility was to back the black panther thugs? or to ignore any black person beaten if he is a member of the tea party?

  17. The jive act runs deep in this country.

  18. This whole thing has nothing to do with racism. It has everything to do with getting African Americans to vote this November.

This is a Democrat strategy that they fed to the NAACP. Label the Tea Party as racist. Then when the Tea Party gets more active closer to the election, really gear up the racism charges with the final adoption of the resolution in October.

Since Obama is not on the ballot, African Americans are not very motivated to vote. The sick strategy of the democrats is to use a charge of racism against the Tea Party to get African Americans to show up at the polls.

  19. Greetings:

Perhaps a pertinent question for Mr. Jealous (love that name, doncha?) would be, “How did you remove the racist elements from your own organization, sir?)

  20. Hey Jealous! You have already cast your lot in with the Communists. Now you’re stuck with them. Enjoy it, moron. You will soon find out that when you are no longer useful to them, they will cast you aside like so much extra baggage. You and NAACP have done a great disservice to this country. Shame on you.

  21. O/T The Chinese show us how you ACTUALLY discriminate against LEGAL CITIZENS — and LOWER-CLASS ones at that. Of course, more deafening silence from the left. http://tinyurl.com/34wookn

  22. First, and foremost, is that we should never accept such a characterization of our groups. Ever.

Are there extremists trying to affiliate with the Tea Party? Of course. But there are active racists in the NAACP, and I don’t see a big push to speak out against those people.

No more acceptance of the call on racism. When we see racist intent, we should speak out. But we should never accept ridiculous characterizations from the other side to define who we are as Americans.

  23. “These sort of KKK type groups saying they like the tea party”

It just fits his maligned ‘logic’ that a group is guilty of how others view them.

    Facts and Truth not required.

  24. The Comedy of the Absurd & Hypocrisy keeps rollin’ right along.

  25. A camera is the best weapon. Let us see what he said. Of course Michelle Obama was there and some of it was to impress her.

  26. I’d be a lot more inclined to police the fringe elements on the right if the lefties were a little more scrupulous about policing the communist organizations who actually ORGANIZE their demonstrations (RCYB, Sparticus Club, etc.)

  27. With all the Congressional Black Caucus types in DC, one would hope that just ONE of them would have the spine to repudiate the hateful ignorance perpetrated by the likes of Jealous. But they won’t. Instead they’ll fan the flames of stupidity with their own jackass statements. Worst people ever.

  28. I watched that Morning Joe segment. My immediate reaction was that it was a transparent attempt by MSNBC, Scarborough & Co to help the NAAC walk back the idiocy of their position. Joe S practically put the words in Jealous’s mouth.

Joe S (I think of him as the Other Slow Joe) is morphing into an Obama toady, but maybe that’s just the price for keeping his job at MSNBC. His show is becoming unwatchable, it’s so far left and the parade smirking, psuedo-sophisticate leftists is a bore.

  29. As a child I didn’t really understand the statement “…but by the content of their character.”

Now, thanks to the NAACP, I fully understand it.

  30. Ben Jealous you go first.
Condemn Jessie, and big AL, and let’s not forget the other racists rev. Wright. You might also take a look at the black separatist movement of hate, popular with the nation of islam. Check your shoes. You’ve been standing in manure for so long you can no longer smell it.

  31. NAACP Racism:

Argues in favor of tne NBPP at the Justice Dept.

Argues against helping Mr. Gladney – a true victim of racism.

    Priceless…

  32. The word racist doesn’t mean what I thought it meant. It must be the new gay.

  33. “The NAACP leftists really ought to clean up their own racist mess before they start pointing fingers.”

On my own blog I compared the Tea Party slur to its James Byrd ad. Remember that ad from Election 2000? In it, Byrd’s daughter says the failure of hate crimes legislation was like seeing her father dragged to death all over again. Opposition to “hate crimes” laws is raaaaaaaacist.

In truth, we don’t need hate crime laws, because judges are already empowered to take extenuating circumstances into account. The most damning element of the murder was not about race, but about three guys killing another guy just for the fun of it. That right there was enough to get those guys maximum sentences.

But people want “hate crimes” laws so they can take numbers. “Our people are more victimized than your people.” Like the kid who complains because Mom didn’t make the kids’ dessert portions exactly the same down to the last gram. Fuel for the old class warfare claptrap.

  34. Watching MSNBC, Scarborough or any of the lib media reminds me of a business here in the small town I live in. It’s a septic pumping service. Something I might glance at out of curiosity but not anything I would want to get up close to.

  35. The NAACP is making an extraordinary claim; where is their extraordinary proof?

    *crickets*

Anyhow, it matters little what they say. Social legislation has its limits, and the money to fund these quixotic “Wars” on poverty, drugs, illiteracy, illegitimacy, &c. just isn’t there any more (if it ever was). As Margaret Thatcher predicted, we’ve run out of other people’s money. If pointing this out makes us “racists’, then, well, so be it.

Moral of the story: a nation which intervenes to save people from their own follies will become a nation of fools.

  36. Just as Lenin bragged that the Capitalists would sell them him the rope he would use to hang them, the NAACP eagerly works for the Democrats, helping out as the guards on the plantation of poverty and resentment they use to confine blacks and steal their future and their votes. It’s a great system for the Democrats and the blacks that work the system with them (they make billions at it), but for the rest of the people of America, black or white or any other color, it is a terrible tragedy.

So when is the real revolution coming? The one where black people revolt against the liberals that enslave them?!

  37. I do not think this is political per se, but more about keeping a job. The NAACP’s job has become to excuse their constituents from any personal responsibility for any of their problems. The NAACP has become a professional enabler of irresponsible behavior in the black community.

Think of it, has the NAACP ever worked to reduce the horrific teen pregnancy or lack of fathers that damns the children to poverty and incarceration? Nope. And they never will. They have taken the role (in modern times) of excusing all irresponsible and self-defeating behavior on the parts of blacks by blaming uninvolved parties.

Democrats do this a lot too. It keeps their gig going, but the irresponsible behavior on the 40% of Americans who do not pay taxes and the 70% of black mom’s who have children without a marriage (which dooms the children to poverty and incarceration) is devastating to the black community in specific and America in general.

Once actual racism was greatly reduced (thank God) the NAACP became part of the problem that is keeping black communities down. As long as they get theirs, I do not think they mind that their “constituents” are doomed to poverty for the benefit of groups like the NAACP and people like Jesse Jackson et al.

  38. Is there any level these people will not stoop to in order to TRY to remain relevant?

  39. First; His aspersion has already been proven as a lie and I sincerely believe they ALL know it.

Second; Even if their accusation were true, their action (Even with his weaseling) still makes them the biggest hypocrites of all time.

The Negros for Aiding and Abetting Caucasian Progressives are well known for their bigotry but, that’s not the worst of it. They make it public only when there’s political gain and money in it for them. – It doesn’t get any lower than this.

  40. Appears to be a classic case of projection.

  41. The so called NAAPC is nothing more than a subsidiary of the Democrat Party and should lose its tax exempt status.

  42. The problem is, the damage has been done. It’s already been widely circulated. It angers Tea Party people. And it clearly paints the Tea Party as the “enemy camp full of racists” in an effort to discourage honest, interested people from the left from even investigating what is being discussed at the Tea Party meetings. It turns the focus from the core values – those of fiscal responsibility – into a hot debate on racism, which most folks just walk away from.

It’s a deliberate effort to make the Tea Party irrelevant.

  43. By it’s very nature, the NAACP is racist, and blind and possibly illerate. Do they not know that the N is for National, the A is for Advancement, A for Association, C is for Colored, and the P is for People. National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Not American People. Not civil rights for all. Not Global People. Only People of Color.
Tea Parties are for all Americans.

  44. Stick it where the sun don’t shine Ben. Too late for that now.

  45. I haven’t seen the NAACP condemn Zaki Baruti for calling Kenneth Gladney an “Uncle Tom” and “Negro”.

Their selective outrage rings false and is dishonest.

  46. Dont hold your breath on the NAACP holding the racists in the Black Panthers accountable, or even holding racists in their own organization accountable. An NAACP spokesman was on O’Reilly recently and Bill tried to call him out on the Black Panther racist statements. The NAACP guy, after a lot of tap dancing, finally stated that Racism does not apply to any black people, and Black people can’t be racist, no matter what they do or say. Pretty convenient definition of Racism for them, and of course a completely hipocritical double standard, that would have never been tolerated by Martin Luther King. How far the NAACP has fallen.

  47. TJ #3:

“The NAACP is going to vote and then post the resolution?
Who do they think they are? The US Congress?”

Now that you mention it, I wonder if any of them read the resolution.

  48. How appropriate for the president of the NAACP to be named Ben Jealous.

Every single member of the NAACP has ‘ben jealous’ of successful, honest, hard-working, productive white people all of their lives….now it is apparent they have also ‘ben jealous’ of black people that are successful, honest, hard-working, and productive.

Ben Jealous…..More like ‘Ben Doing the Man’s Dirty Work for Him’ ….. Bunch of sychophantic slaves.

  49. He’s trying to pretend to be “reasonable,” but it doesn’t wash.

The Tea Party movement has nothing to do with racism. America, which the Tea Party movement represents the best of, is not a racist society. We are a virtuous and just society.

  50. Perhaps the NAACP should get back to being a National Association that is Advancing “Colored People

  51. There is another class of colored people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs….There is a certain class of race-problem solvers who do not want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public. – Booker T. Washington

  52. No one is stating the obvious!

NAACP is a racist group by its very charter and mission.

It is not the advancement of all people, just Colored People [according to its own title].

How dare they project their own charter onto another group?!

NAACP’s entire existence is racial. Words have meaning! National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

    Hypocrites, Projectors, Liars.

  53. “We aren’t saying that the tea party is racist,” Jealous said. “What we’re saying is that with their increasing power comes an increasing responsibility to act responsibly…and to call out when they see those things on those signs.”

Hah. The pot is calling the kettle [insert appropriate non-threatening NAACP-approved non-racist term congruent to "not-white" here].

Amen to that one. Thank you very much for pointing out that simple fact. They need to clean up their own back yard before they can start complaining about the Tea Party.

Also, someone mentioned the actual word racist and how it did not apply to blacks….well….I am researching the word as we speak. Hopefully, I will have the definition soon, so that we may ALL see if it excludes ‘colored’ people. I will be sure to let you know what I find.

  57. # 60 Bob C:

Yes, I am attacking the NAACP (as are others). Why not? They’re a bunch of racists posing as some sort of faux civil rights organization. Apparently, civil rights for blacks only. But hey, I guess that’s what happens during a post-racial precedency.

Proglibtards just hate having their sacred cows rightfully gored.

The Dems are racists, and always have been; dey jus’ luv bein’ da Boss Man on da plantayshun. A very good reason why proglibtards just loathe teaching children, including black ones, real History, and instead want to teach that ‘everybody’s culture gets a prize’ gibberish feelgood history. Why isn’t Martin Luther King’s party affiliation (Republican) ever discussed on his day in January, or even during one day in the whole of Black History Month? The truth absolutely sucks for liberals. Now more so in the age of YouTube. (“Who are you? Who are YOU?” uttered while grabbing a kid and holding him in a headlock. Such respect by the Dems for their employers.)

  61. Unindicted co-conspirator CAIR has come out in support of the NAACP position.

  62. NAACP = National Association for the Advancement of the Communist Party. Mr. Jealous, you have discredited your organization for some cheap political gain. You and your organization have done a great disservice to the people you claim to represent and to the country. You have sided with the Communists who are trying to destroy this country. You have taken the bait. They have you. Now you have declared your side. I hope you like the outcome, because the people with whom you have sided will throw you out like garbage once you have outlived your usefulness to them. And don’t for a minute think that they care about the people you claim to represent. They do NOT! Join the Tea Party. You will do more to help the country and its citizens than if you stay your present course.

… but we see what this is really intended to do: divert the discussion into how the TPM is or isn’t “racist” … in order to move the TPM off their message, which directly confronts the greater threat to civil rights … the continued implementation of the Progressive agenda in our government and institutions.

It will not work … however, those who are turned away from supporting the fiscal responsibility and limited government the TPM advocates because of such accusations will be confronted by reality, sooner or later …

… and they need to understand that, if they shirk their responsibility to look past the rhetoric and support those principles — no matter who is supporting them — that confrontation with reality is going to be quite painful.
