On May 27, Barack Obama told the press that he is in charge in the crisis in the Gulf of Mexico:

“My job is to get this fixed. And, in case anybody wonders, in any of your reporting, in case you’re wondering, who’s responsible? I take responsibility… There’ shouldn’t be any confusion here, the federal government is fully engaged and I’m fully engaged.”

So, two weeks ago Barack Obama was in charge:

But, now they’re not sure.
53 Days later Team Obama is still not sure who’s in charge.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar told a Senate Committee this week that the administration was not in charge.
Unreal.
The Blog Prof reported:

The worst environmental disaster in American history is also the worst leadership disaster.

  1. I’m sorry but this administration is a joke. Anyone who voted for this mess should be thoroughly embarassed and angry.
I can not take a thing they say seriously and I am afraid for this country. I do not think there is going to be anything left in 2012.

  2. It was very clear to anyone who watched Adm. Thad Allen’s pitiful response to Chris Wallace’s question on the subject Sunday morning.

Despite the President saying he himself was responsible at his Pre Memorial Day “Press Conference”. There really is no one from the administration grabbing the bull by the horns on this catastrophe.

I believe that is because the worse this thing becomes the better alternative energy looks…

    Bolstering the Progressive talking point—

“This spill in the Gulf is a reminder of just how urgent it is for this country to end its addiction to fossil fuels. To anyone who had doubts it must now be patently obvious, no matter what the cost, we as a society must be willing to pay the price for the transition to alternative / Green Energies.”

    Cue the oil stained Pelican…

  3. Well said, Olm!
    .

  4. Here’s the deal, Jim. When this spill first happened, and BP reported a 1000 bpd leak, Obama and his advisors saw an opportunity. An opportunity, if allowed to get just bad enough, to stop offshore drilling. Remember, never let a crisis go to waste. These people turned down help from overseas, where some of the best technology exists for cleaning up oil spills, and failed to respond with the government’s own plan to attack a major spill, which was to burn a large part of it.

However, the leak was much larger than first announced, and has now spiriled out of control, and what was once considered a godsend to this administration has turned out to be a curse.

The nation, and the world, now sees what a complete incompetant we have in the WH; therefore, our nation is weakened at exactly the time we need strength, both for the economy and national security.

This oil spill will now be the worst disaster in US history, it will play a large part in tanking our economy, and will destroy a whole region of our country, and a way of life for millions of people. It will never be what it once was.

And the fools in the White House, much as Nero did, party hard while Rome(the Gulf Coast) burns. I have never been so disgusted in my life. It’s time for real change in Washington. And I mean real change.

  5. Team obama was more than happy to take charge of the financial sector…and the auto industry…and health care. Now, all of a sudden they are trying as hard as they can to run from this disaster…they don’t want to take this thing over. Something is not adding up. Since when does obama avoid taking over something? It’s just not making any sense…

  6. Never let a crisis go to waste – to weaken the country, the leadership, increase vulnerability. That’s the goal, right?

  7. Obama: “Don’t ask me, I’m just here for the fringe benefits, suckers! By the way, you’re racist for even bringing it up.”

  8. Because, Betsy, as beautifully illustrated by posters and as I tend to forget, these incompetents thrive on Alinsky crises. The problem is that they woefully underestimated this one and it threatens to bring these immature jerks down.
They appear not to see that and are operating on their party like it is 1999 attitude.
An absolute joke I only hope we can laugh at one day.

  9. Also, it is worth remembering that the statement Obama made about “taking responsibility” was made right after one of the first attempts to stop the leak was reported as being successful. Only after it was reported as not working did Obama and his team go back to blaming anyone and everyone EXCEPT themselves.

And Betsy Ross makes an excellent point. This administration thinks government is the answer to everything and every industry and every problem on the planet. They cannot propose legislation quick enough to take over and manage anything… EXCEPT this crisis. Suddenly, it is private industry that should solve the problem.

Add this to this list of abject failures this Idiot-in-Chief will be remembered for.

  10. Wow! What a great set of comments. I can add nothing. You’ve said it all.

  11. They focus obsessively on “messaging.” That would be the illusion they maintain to keep the public uninformed fo the truth. They are “managing” nothing apart from their Anti-Constitution Agenda – a Socialist Islamist-sympathizing agenda, and manufacturing every law, rule they can impose to further that while everyone is focused on messes, like this oil spewer.
Obama is making up transparently sophomoric excuses as to why he has’t met with the CEO of BP. Obama’s excuse is he expects the guy to LIE to him, being a CEO and all. Say what? How about waking up in the morning and reading THAT SMEAR from the POTUS? What a despicable CROCK. Obama hasn’t met with the CEO because he DOESN’T CARE about the oil. His administration has got Socialism to install, the Lefties are all in harmony, “Nationalize!” and no one is noticing the copious rules manufacturing, no one has read the entire HealthCare Law which keeps producing shackles and chains, so spew away.
BP will go the way of Toyota. FORD wasn’t in much better shape than GM, but FORD would have had to lay off Dearborn, so GM as a competitor was the target to remove FORD’s competition. Toyota is also FORD’s competitor, so off it goes, chased out by governmental harrassment. Two major FORD competitors evicerated in a year’s time. The government is creating a FORD monopoly, not a GM monopoly.

THe USG is doing nothing to mobilize government stocks of booms that even people in Khatmandou now know are stacked up in warehouses.

What was the news line the other day? Obama’s putting in Federal regulations at a feverish pace? He’s evidently got PLENTY of time between golfing and parties to make sure he’s strangling the AMerican citizen.
Obama’s Executive Order that free rides Arab Muslim Gazans fast track into the USA? These are the people who were given state of the art greenhouses, bought off the Israeli owners, rampaged thru their gifts, wrecked them all and now are SUING the former Israeli owners for jobless benefits, who are themselves jobless and haven’t yet been reimbursed for the confiscation of their assets.
Is it in our national interest to open the doors to THAT kind of toxic welfare mentality? But spewing oil wells? Whatever.

  12. Great points Betsy Ross

  13. Affirmative action strikes again!

  14. I guess Obama thought that saying “The buck stops here” meant something other than what he thought it meant. More like a parrot actually. Awkkkkk, the buck stops here, Awkkkk, the buck stops here.

  15. Awkkkkkkk“This spill in the Gulf is a reminder of just how urgent it is for this country to end its addiction to fossil fuels. To anyone who had doubts it must now be patently obvious, no matter what the cost, we as a society must be willing to pay the price for the transition to alternative / Green Energies.” Fine, stop the leak.
    ”Awkkkkkkkkkkkkkk”The buck stops here”.

  16. What kind of fuel did Obama use to fly to California and raise money for BOXER???

What alternative fuel is cost effective to run planes and cars???

C’mon Obama you blithering idiot give us some answers?

  17. Is it any wonder that with Ken Salazar Slytherin, that an environmental catastrophe is happening to muggles, while the Dark Prince is occupying the WH? Obama fiddles while the Gulf Coast burns.

  18. Wave your magic wand, kansas, and show us the way. Wind and solar are great, but look at what happened to Spain, when they tried to go that route. Wind and solar cost more, and the infrastruture does not exist to move most of it to market at competive rates. Don’t you know it will take hundreds of billions of dollars, perhaps trillions, to build the infrastruture neccessary to bring this energy to the large markets in the East, or on the West Coast. Where is that money to come from? Do you think doing the same dumb thing here will lead to any better results?

If you think it’s hard for our industry to compete now, then think how much more difficult it will be when it has to compete against industry in other countries that use much cheaper oil and coal. What’s left of our industry will be gone with the wind. Unemployment will go through the roof. This isn’t kansas anymore, kansas!

Add to that higher taxes and fuel bills, and what do you think will happen to the disposable income of working people in this country? I can answer that for you. They will spend much less, further forcing the economy into depression. In case you didn’t know, 70% of our economy is based on consumer spending. Take disposable income away from people, and they can’t spend it. Offer me something truly realistic, and I will listen.

  19. .. Obama, Salad Czar, their whole marxist cabal, is one massive, toxic mess for America and the free world..now that the morons control carbon dioxide too, they ought to lead by example.. stop breathing.

  21. –AM THINKER: A Shrink Asks: What’s Wrong
    With Obama?
    http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/06/a_shrink_asks_whats_wrong_with.html

.. {something to ponder..but likely, the most important takeaway for november is this: “Obama will not evolve; he will not rise to the occasion; he will not become the man he was meant to be. This is for one reason and one reason alone:
    He is not capable of it.”}

  22. Salazar is deceptive. He shifted, moved his eyes and showed deceipt. Part of his hesitation comes from “has BP refused to do anything that was asked” coming to a follow up question. what have they refused to do. Be specific. The charge of BP not being cooperative is destroyed. Salazar is all hat and no cattle. He is a dufus.
I suppose the Kaptain Kickass in one of his edgy moments would appoint Perez Hilton as a drilling czar.

Obama is on trial along side corruptocrat Blago in Chicago this week. He is keeping the noise level high here because a lot of crud and dirt is being exposed in chicago. It looks like Chicago hearings are not getting much coverage.

it’s being covered?? gee, i thought it was being held behind closed doors, or
perhaps via an Obama UN resolution to stifle talk of it ala: Islam.. /O’sarc/

  24. The oil spill isn’t the only place where they don’t know what they are doing. This is a little off topic, but my husband just returned from town and said that over fifty census workers are sitting in lawn chairs in the local Food Lion parking lot. One of the ladies in the store said they were there when she came in at 11AM – it is now 3:30PM. This is our tax dollars at work?! I am so angry! Sorry about this, but I just had to tell somebody. :^(

  25. Loved Burr’s?

when asked about the rigs already on the move
Salazar says not to worry we are going to wind power?

well that will make great soap and other things we use?LOL

First c-span I have had time to watch and boy do I miss the smart guys who ran these things just a few short years ago.

sorry but democ-rats just don’t cut it.

SENATE ENERGY & NATURAL RESOURCES CMTE. HEARING ON ENERGY DEVELOPMENT SAFETY MEASURES
    10JUNE2010

this is very important because it is pointed out that a few weeks ago the oil was not on shore.

this is important because the feds should have bought those booms then bill bp later this is how things are done.

also remember bho gave how much money to South America for oil drilling?

    democ-rats are stuck on stupid.

  26. It’s slowly starting to seep into a few Liberal’s brains that what we need is … Halliburton.

Wish it was funny, but Obama has already ruined so many good things.

  27. PB is lying and the amount of oil spilling is much more than reported.

Hussein does not care, he is busy trying to set up a party to bash bush again saying that all bad things in history happened because of Bush, including the great flood of Noah in the Bible. This Fraudulent Usurper is an lunatic.

  29. Part is because Obama only knows how to capitalize on a crisis, not to fix it. Chaos and destruction is his M.O., ala deficit spending.

Another part is that nothing irks Obama more than seeing others succeed. He can’t take the chance that someone (i.e. Jindal, Costner, shrimp boat operators) might get a teensy weensy bit of credit for their efforts to counteract this disaster. Therefore, his approach is to hold, hold, hold until the Gulf is absolutely beyond help.
