Will their America-hating ever stop?
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton included the US in the list of nations that traffic in human slavery. This is the first time that the US has been included on the list.
The New York Daily News reported, via FOX Nation:
Secretary of State Clinton included the U.S. for the first time on the State Department’s list of nations “trafficking in persons” for forced labor ranging from farm workers to pole dancers and prostitutes.
“There are Americans, unfortunately, who are held in slavery,” Clinton said in releasing the annual report on nations who promote or permit the international trade in human beings for profit.
The report said the main source countries for forced labor in the U.S. were Thailand, Mexico, the Philippines, Haiti and India.
“The obvious reality is that we, too, are a source country,” said Luis C. de Baca, ambassador-at-Large for trafficking in persons.
In the report, the U.S. was singled out as “source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to trafficking in persons, specifically forced labor, debt bondage, and forced prostitution.”
The report added that “Trafficking occurs primarily for labor and most commonly in domestic servitude, agriculture, manufacturing, janitorial services, hotel services, construction, health and elder care, hair and nail salons, and strip club dancing.”
And, soon our children and grandchildren will be slaves to their massive debt.

When we say that a country traffics in slavery, we mean either that the government participates in it, or approves of it, or knows about it but does nothing about it. In the U.S. slavery is illegal and when that activity is discovered the people are prosecuted and usually sent to prison.
This is absurd.

Actually, this is pretty much the truth. What Obama and his adminitration won’t say is that slavery is a direct result of illegal immigration. Esentially, its indentured seritude, where people pay for the passage to the U.S. with a little money up-front and the promise to work for the trafficers associasts.
The only way to eliminate slavery is to eliminate illegal immigration. But they won’t say that.

Folks, this is actually a true, national disgrace. Trafficking is real, and it is here. It is part of the illegal alien smuggling and trafficking “system.” For this reason alone, illegal immigration should be opposed vehemently. The most despicable aspect is that liberalism aids and abets this horror. Meanwhile, the very victims of smuggling and trafficking (in large part, hispanics), further the cause of the smuggling rings that make BILLIONS off the illegal trade by chain migration to unite families, and call the rest of us racists who oppose all of it. Might as well condemn the businesses that knowingly hire illegals and perpetuate the crimes, in part encouraged to do so by high tax codes which strain them in competition with other companies around the globe.
But, yes, this is a REAL problem. You illegal immigration opponents are only learning the tip of the smuggling and trafficking hydra, and you should still be proud to oppose it even if you do not truly understand the depth of the problem. There are illegals here who are literally slaves until they pay off their ransom demanded by the smugglers, and sweatshops are an ugly reality in cities large and small. The media are truly masking a disturbing reality by not reporting on it. It is particularly cynical of this administration to label this problem what it is, and not admit being a major part of the problem by opposing the effective means of reducing illegal immigration by laws such as SB1070 in Arizona.
bill-tb commented:
Hillary must not know as much law as she thinks she does. In 1807 Slavery importation was made illegal in the USA … Search the suppressed history “Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves of 1807″, it was effective on Jan 1, 1808 and mirrored the similar law in the UK from 1807.
So if Hillary knows of these lawbreakers isn’t she obligated to turn them in to the fuzz post haste.

That is absolutely correct. The problem is deeper than anyone thinks. It also gives us a great opportunity here.
Any candidate who opposes illegal immigration must begin campaigning against the amnesty advocates using the 13th Amendment (“Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude…”) as the clause to empower local and state law enforcement to combat illegal immigration. Hold state and local raids. Send the slavemasters (people who use illegals for cheap labor) to jail.
13th Amendment with teeth. That sounds good.

regularguy is right. Human trafficking exists and is a real problem in America. I’m not aware of what the formal definition is, but I don’t see that it requires acknowledging government involvement or approval…of course we don’t qualify on that score.
And I don’t think it implies moral equivalence with Sudan or Thailand for our government to admit that the phenomenon exists here. If we’re embarrassed by the fact of its existence….good. It’s a first step to doing something about it. Just a few miles from our border, the city of Vancouver is reputed to be the world “capital” of human trafficking, especially in children, and especially for sex slavery.
Don’t shoot the messenger because the message is appalling. Demand action instead of practicing denial.

WHEN EUROPEANS WERE SLAVES
[The result is that between 1530 and 1780 there were almost certainly
1 million and quite possibly as many as 1.25 million white, European Christians enslaved by the Muslims of the Barbary Coast.
Davis said his research into the treatment of these slaves suggests that,
for most of them, their lives were every bit as difficult as that of slaves
in America.
"As far as daily living conditions, the Mediterranean
slaves certainly didn't have it better," he said.
While African slaves did grueling labor on sugar and cotton plantations in the Americas, European Christian slaves were often worked just as hard and as lethally – in quarries, in heavy construction, and above all rowing the corsair galleys themselves.
Davis said his findings suggest that this invisible slavery of
European Christians deserves more attention from scholars.
"We have lost the sense of how large enslavement could loom for those who lived around the Mediterranean and the threat they were under," he said. "Slaves were still slaves, whether they are black or white, and whether they suffered in America or North Africa."]

Does slavery occur here? Yes, often it’s illegals enslaved, or imposed by resident foreigners on their imported housemaid etc., not usually “Americans”. But it is not, as has been pointed out by other posters, either legal, condoned, or ignored. Nor is the magnitude anything like that in the world at large (millions in some countries). Nor are other countries as involved as we are in fighting slavery (one of Bush’s unsung efforts). Clinton making this kind of moral equiv. proves beyond a doubt that she is devoid of sound moral judgment. Unless the left quickly and loudly condemns her, they are too.

Damned if we do, damned if we don’t…
Stop illegal immigration and we are cold-hearted, inhumane bastards keeping these people from earning a living and feeding their families…

If slavery is people reaping the benefits of others’ labor by force of law… we already are slaves. We are slaves to ACORN workers who get paid our tax dollars to do nothing. We are slaves to union workers who want to steal our tax dollars to pay for their princely pensions. We are slaves to those perpetually and generationally on welfare, who steal our tax dollars then riot when banks won’t give them housing loans.
Democrats never changed. They were always the slaveowners, and they are to this day.

I know about pimps and their “slave prostitutes”; most of which got into the business voluntarily. I met many illegals that were working off their debt to their smugglers. They made a bad deal. The prostitutes and illegals were not treated nicely and were often taken advantage of but they were not chained, bought or sold and they all started their “employment” with their consent.

It’s unfair to bash Hillary for this: There is human trafficking in the USA. I have seen more than one news report on girls enticed to come to the USA to work, but then held as prisoners and forced to work at strip clubs and massage parlors.
The Unitec States is not on the list because it is an egregious violator of these civilized norms; it is on the list because there is some trafficking going on here.
The United States is on the list in the Tier 1 category, meaning that it is fully compliant with the minimum standards of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act.
There are 4 categories, from Tier 1 at the top through Tier 2 (not fully compliant but making efforts to improve) down to Tier 3 (not fully compliant, which seems to usually mean hardly compliant at all.)
Tier 1 nations include the USA, Sweden, France, and the UK.
Tier 3 nations include Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran and Cuba.
The State Department report lists 177 nations.

The Racist History of the Democratic Party
[Some called it the Civil War, others called it the War Between the States, but to the African Americans at that time, it was the War Between the Democrats and the Republicans over slavery. The Democrats gave their lives to expand it, Republican gave their lives to ban it.]
Black Slave Owners
[The fact is large numbers of free Negroes owned black slaves; in fact, in numbers disproportionate to their representation in society at large.[.]
The census also determined that there were fewer than 385,000 individuals who owned slaves. Even if all slaveholders had been white, that would amount to only 1.4 percent of whites in the country (or 4.8 percent of southern whites owning one or more slaves).]
The Truth May Inconvenience Our Perceptions
[.] Can we not be legislated into slavery, or simply taxed into it? If many blacks recoil in horror at the thought of tens of thousands of black Confederates fighting and dying under the Confederate Battle Flag 135 years ago, it may just show the extent of their indoctrination, their alienation with the past, and the magnitude of the challenge Southerners face in ending racial hostility.]

Over the past 21 years, I have lived and worked in five African countries: Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Zaire and Nigeria. ..There is nothing in Richburg's book that I could contradict. I too, experienced the horror, and hopelessnesss of that continent. I read 'Out of America' in one sitting... "
Steve Wishnevsky: "This is the voice missing from the current race 'dialogue.' Mr. Richburg is a courageous writer and clear observer...
His is an authentic voice and should be listened to closely. America is the only land where the descendants of Africans have anything approaching freedom and economic opportunity."
H. Luther: "So much of what you hear about Africa lately is from people who have never been there. People who want to romanticize what is in

NOI is a cult of Islam, not the real deal. Their totally unforgiving stance towards America’s slave period that lasted less than 200 years (1660s to 1864) and less if counted as America an independent nation in 1776, eradicating slavery by 1864, with the bulk of it concentrated in a limited number of large Southern plantations, so less than half the country, is so self-focused they are totally willfully blind to Arab Muslim slave policy of conquest in Africa – 1,400 years and STILL unrepentent, as in slaving whenever they can get away with it. While Black Americans, generations away from slavery, but decendents of slaves enjoy high achievement in all sector of American society, wealth and a standard of living that’s the best in the world, there are regions of Africa that have not recovered from the Arab Muslim slaving depredations, with regions that still have slavery at this moment. Not a peep from slavery-hating NOI. Not one peep of protest for their African brothers and sisters in bondage.
Teeth grinding to see all sorts of unofficial “favored nation” White House financing flowing to Brazil, which is run now by a hard-core Socialist, buddies with CHavez and didn’t outlaw its own slavery until after the USA did.
ALso, NOI could be cozy with and certainly would be courted by such like the Muslim Brotherhood or the Wahhabists, but at the end of the day, the “purists” will turn on what they perceive as the apostate and inferior NOI. Ghaddafi, a favorite of NOI, complains about this all the time, alternately trying to strike out with his own vision or trying to ingratiate himself with the haute Saudis who look down on him as mixed race inferior. Same dynamics with the Persians, who are arch rivals with the Arabs. Short term alliances, long term put down.
It’s looking more and more as an acendency of hate-race politics – which wouldn’t go far without the enabling of rich Liberal Left White elites.

Slaves could be found from the toilet-cleaners jobs all the way up to heads of offices. It was especially tricky at the upper levels. The owners could hide behind their educated slaves, calling the shots without foreigners ever guessing the head of this or that program or office was a slave, who was carrying out orders from his owner.
Slavery was made illegal in Mauritania in 1981. The last open air slave sale was in 1984. The slave sales now are ALL under the table, between families. Only in about the last two years or so have ANY teeth been given to the anti-slavery laws. The American Congressional Black Caucus repeatedly rebuffed appeals from Africans for help.

Wrong: Sweden, France, Britain, and other civilized nations are also on the list–and like the USA, they are listed in Tier 1, which means that they are recognized as serious about fighting all forms of slavery. They are only on the list because some trafficking remains–and all sensible people recognize that it is very difficult (if not impossible!) to completely eradicate any kind of crime.

“‘Thanks” Hillary Clinton, for lumping the USA in with regimes that use slavery and human trafficking as social policy and a tactic for conquest”
Wrong: Sweden, France, Britain, and other civilized nations are also on the list–and like the USA, they are listed in Tier 1, which means that they are recognized as serious about fighting all forms of slavery.
……
I know these gimmicks are used all the time to provide cover for or to blunt criticism of abusive regimes. The complaint is that countries shouldn’t just roll over and accept being lumped with real abusers.
Hillary will go down as our worst Sec of State EVER – hard to beat out Madeline Albright, but Hillary will achieve that handily.

The idea that most prostitutes got into it “voluntarily” isn’t provable, but even if it were true, it wouldn’t mean that nothing should be done to help the many who didn’t “volunteer”, and who are exploited, transported, addicted, beaten and literally enslaved by a criminal element.
Andreas K. commented:
If the US belongs on the list of countries trafficking humans, then every single EU country should have been on there for years.
Why?
Mohammedan girls.
They are sold into marriage and forced into marriage. The EU countries have been ignoring this for years, they have actually supported it by allowing whole clans to follow their son/father into our countries and to continue their barbaric and uncivilized way of life in our countries. Why? Because we must be tolerant towards it, we must respect it, and if we don’t do that, we’re Nazis and what not.
And in said marriage, well. Let me quote you a couple of mohammedan writings, some from Muha the Mad himself:
While men and women are said to have equal rights in Islam, looking at the Qur’an we find that men are still presented as being superior to them: ‘And women shall have rights similar to the rights against them, according to what is equitable; but men have a degree (of advantage) over them’ (2:228).
The testimony of a woman is worth only half that of a man: ‘get two witnesses, out of your own men, and if there are not two men, then a man and two women’ (2:282).
Men are in charge of women and women should be ‘obedient’ to men. If they are not, they must be beaten (2:223).
Men may have multiple wives, but women can only marry one man.
Women are ‘as a tilth’ (a piece of land) to men, and husbands may have sex with their ‘wives’ whenever they want to, including on the ‘night of the fasts’, when a man may still have sex with his ‘wives’ (2:187). The only exception is when a woman is menstruating, which is presented as a ‘pollution’. Once menstruation is over, and the woman has ‘purified’ herself, her husband may once again ‘approach [her] in any manner, time, or place’ (2:222-223).
Even women who are not menstruating ritually pollute a man and if men ‘have been in contact with women’ prior to prayer, they must first cleanse themselves (4:43; 5:6).
Women must be veiled and should not ‘display their beauty’ to anyone other than close family members, slaves, ‘or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex’. Women are forbidden to ’strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments’ (24:31). When they leave the house, women ’should cast their outer garments over their persons’ (33:59).
Male children are to receive twice the inheritance of females: ‘to the male, a portion equal to that of two females’ (4:11); ‘if there are brothers and sisters, (they share), the male having twice the share of the female’ (4:176).
Muhammad’s wives are ‘not like any of the (other) women’ and are commanded to ’stay quietly in your houses’ (33:32-33). While there is ‘no blame’ on Muhammad’s wives if they ‘appear before’ close family members (33:55), men from outside the family may only address them ‘before a screen’ (33:53). If a wife of Muhammad is found guilty of ‘lewdness’ or ‘unseemly conduct’, their punishment will be double that of other women (33:30).
Muslim men will be rewarded in heaven by being given female virgins ‘whom no man or Jinn [genie] before them has touched‘ (55:56; 55:71-74). In other words, for men, the afterlife will be a kind of orgy. For women, no equivalent to this male ‘reward’ is offered.

So let me get this straight. This administration flat out REFUSES to secure our borders, but adds us to the human trafficking list? Logic?
Marsh commented:
What? How can we be practicing human slavery? Illegal immigrants come here, work for evil and greedy employers, and the LEFT supports it all while the RIGHT wants it stopped. She’s bashing her own freaking open borders policies. Dear God these leftist democraps are so dense. It’s sad, pathetic and infuriating.

Read the actual report. It’s not you and me, it’s a very small number of evil people. It’s not widespread, but it does occur.

“If the US belongs on the list of countries trafficking humans, then every single EU country should have been on there for years.”
Take a look at the report. Britain and France are on it. Sweden is on it.
The USA being on the list as a Tier 1 country DOES NOT mean that the USA is being called a slavery-friendly state. It means that the USA is hostile to slavery but that a small amount of trafficking does occur.
Read the report.

Love your site Mr. Hoft and greatly appreciate all you’ve done over the years but sadly, this is an issue that needs more local attention…
Granted, if we could properly secure the borders and enforce our laws, this problem might not exist in the US.
But, many of the illegals come to this country, not as free persons… but often they are forced to work for those that brought them here or by the nefarious underground criminal organizations that have been permitted to grow over the last few decades…
Now, just how big a problem is this in the US? Know one really knows. It could be relatively small – it could be huge. But some of the volunteer groups we’ve worked with have shown us that it is indeed a very real and sad problem. And law enforcement is either ignorant or turns a blind eye to the problem.
And what’s the first step for an alchoholic? First admit that there is a problem – and it’s not that your bottle is empty.

“China is not on the list ? Why?”
China IS on the list, Mr. Goodwrench. Read the dang report. What’s more, China is listed in Tier 2, indicating that it has a serious problem and is not serious about solving that problem.
In contrast, the United States and virtually all of Western Europe are listed in Tier 1, indicating that they do not have large problems and are very serious about combatting slavery.
Dang it everybody, read the report. All you have to do is google “state department trafficking in persons report 2010″. There are lists and maps and everything you need to understand it.
pst314 commented:
“indicating that it has a serious problem and is not serious about solving that problem.”
Arrgh, I screwed up. Please omit “and is not serious about solving that problem.” Tier 2 means IS making serious efforts. Sheer carelessness caused my annoyance.

From the State Department report (emphasis mine):
TIER 1
Countries whose governments fully comply with the Trafficking Victims Protection Act’s (TVPA) minimum standards
TIER 2
Countries whose governments do not fully comply with the TVPA’s minimum standards, but ARE MAKING SIGNIFICANT EFFORTS to bring themselves into compliance with those standards
TIER 2 WATCH LIST
Countries whose governments do not fully comply with the TVPA’s minimum standards, but are making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance with those standards, AND: a) the absolute number of victims of severe forms of trafficking is very significant or is significantly increasing; b) there is a failure to provide evidence of increasing efforts to combat severe forms of trafficking in persons from the previous year; or, c) the determination that a country is making significant efforts to bring themselves into compliance with minimum standards was based on commitments by the country to take additional future steps over the next year
TIER 3
Countries whose governments do not fully comply with the minimum standards and ARE NOT MAKING SIGNIFICANT EFFORTS to do so

The difference is in the wording. Slavery may be practiced here, BUT IT’S AGAINST THE LAW HERE AND WE WILL PROSECUTE ANYONE ENSLAVING ANYONE.
There are countries around the world that condone slavery and make it legal – or at least look the other way. For example, there are at least two Islamic countries in Northern Africa where slavery is legal.
Why does our Secretary of State feel the need to slander us? Is this another Obama-moron moment?

I swear, this blog is where terrifically stupid goes to regress. Both the author and the yahoo cheerleaders in the peanut gallery have severe mental issues. The United States government wants to be accountable and take steps to reduce the incidence of a truly horrific personal crime most commonly committed against women.
Now, what precisely is your problem with taking steps to protect American women from a fate worse than death?
Good slappin’ grief.

You are also welcome to read the T.I.P report for yourselves:
http://www.state.gov/g/tip/rls/tiprpt/
and see where each country stands as for as import, export, and usage of trafficked persons.
Before we can eliminate the problem at hand, we must educate the population that there IS a problem! Each time you say this does not exist and is just made up by the political parties to posture over, you risk costing another human being their life. Educate yourselves and Take a stand!!!!

I am a conservative. through and through. no question about it.
I want to say that some of you simply dont know enough about this issue. The reality is that American minor girls are being forcibly prostituted in the US – at least 100,000 of them girls (as many as 300k – see NCMEC stats). Further, foreign nationals are trafficked here into the commercial sex trade, but also into forced labor. They’re lured here to by lies – promises of legitimate work and theyre forced to labor against their will, keep none of the money, and are held there by violence, threats, manipulation, forcible addictions to drugs, etc. It is horrible what they go through, and it happens here in the US. I am not one to “bash” america or “hate” on this country, but this report is the global authority on patterns of trafficking, and it is time we recognize the abuse, even in America, for what it is – modern day slavery. This is not a political issue, its a justice issue.
wanna see what it looks like in the US?
