Now she’s gone.
Helen Thomas Retires – June 7, 2010
It’s a sad day for the state-run media. One of their most respected liberal reporters and Jew-haters has retired.
FOX Nation reported:
Politico’s Mike Allen via Twitter: Hearst Newspapers: “Helen Thomas announced Monday that she is retiring, effective immediately. ‘I deeply regret my comments’”
Politico reports: During Monday’s White House Press Briefing, Robert Gibbs was asked to react to Helen Thomas’ controversial remarks on the Middle East:
“Those remarks are offensive and reprehensible.”
He added that she has apologized and should have.
“Those remarks certainly don’t reflect the opinion of folks here or the administration.”
Statement from Helen Thomas: “I deeply regret my comments I made last week regarding the Israelis and the Palestinians. They do not reflect my heart-felt belief that peace will come to the Middle East only when all parties recognize the need for mutual respect and tolerance. May that day come soon.”
More… Skinner added:
I bet John Podesta offered her a job with Van Jones on Sunday.
I just love how brave these folks are with Obama in the White House, speaking out what is in their hearts. It is actually one of the silver linings having Obama as our President. All the assumptions and unspoken knowledge of the liberal elite are being clearly and loudly laid out in speech, laws and actions for all to see.
All of it Anti-American and Anti-Constitution.

It would only be right if the Gaza Flotilla named its next ship full of terrorist thugs the “Helen Thomas” in her honor.

She was a Washington “institution”, all on her own. No one would dare challenge her for a long time. Not the media, not presidents or their staffs. (Tony Snow was the unusual encounter, but you must understand he had nothing to lose anyway after knowing he was departing this world.)

If Gibbs really said “most” that’s a horrible qualifier. That means Gibbs acknowledges that SOME people might agree with her…and that’s okay? Who are these people, Gibbs?

Notice she didnt say that her comments didnt reflect her true feelings. Just that she was sorry for them (because she got fired over them).
She didnt quit willingly. She was told to go under the bus willingly or be thrown under it garters and all and be fired. She chose the first way.

A friend retired at 52 because she saved, invested, and lived a frugal lifestyle fixing broken equipment instead of always having the newest version of everything. She did that thinking her retirement would open up one job for someone. Now, 10 years later, she hears people that complain about people retiring early and the drain they are on society. She lived on savings and investments so someone could have a job for those 10 years. It is not a matter of retiring early; it is more who plans ahead to do it and not live off the government teat. Most people today do not even have a glimmer of the concept.

Helen was employed by a Hearst company. One of the Hearst family members had her fired. She was not an officer but expressed outrage and embarassment to the family name. I am sure the wheels of justice would turn slowly if the HR department processed it.

Americans who did not agree with Thomas’ view of the Jews felt free to express their disagreement with her, Weird; they used their right of freedom of speech—which said right means that you’re allowed to disagree with anyone, and anybody, no matter how powerful they are, or even if they’re some high muckety-muck icon of the press. It doesn’t mean that politicians and pundits can just burble anything that comes into their heads, and we cannot criticize them for agree with it, no matter how incorrect, bigoted or downright stupid it is.
Helen Thomas said something a lot of Americans didn’t agree with, and got called on it. How does this somehow prove that Americans no longer have freedom of speech?
