Brewer-Christie 2012–
Governor Jan Brewer (R-AZ) met with President Obama on June 3rd to discuss our broken border with Mexico. President Obama promised he’d get back with her in two weeks. He didn’t. He blew her off. But, she did find out from Ecuadorean TV that his administration planned to sue her state. In the meantime, the federal government has ceded three southern Arizona counties to the Mexican drug cartel due to violence and smuggling.
Today she released her latest ad slamming the president again for failing to do his job:
Once again Jan Brewer outdid herself.
This is just her latest magnificent ad that pummels the president for failing the American people.
Jan Brewer, you are an American hero.
Here’s a look at the counties that are now off limits to American citizens:

Ms. Brewer, Mr. Obama did, indeed, reply to you regarding your recent meeting. He sent Eric Holder to sue Arizona for SB1070.
I will likely vote for you this November. I voted against the recent Prop 100, a state sales tax for education increase that failed to address having to educate 400,000 illegals or so in the state. I know you supported it. However, I understand it was, at least, some sort of attempt at fiscal sanity to address the budgetary problems left behind by Janet Napolitano before she left Arizona to ruin what, if anything, was good about Homeland Security. I also realize the revenue shortfalls in Arizona are due, in part, to the real estate market bottoming out because of the mortgage crisis spurred by criminals such as President Obama shaking down lenders to give bad loans and others still wreaking havoc at the national level.
Nevertheless, hammer Mr. Obama for shirking his duties. There isn’t one acre of real estate we should ever allow ceded to criminal elements, and I consider this land taken over by the open borders zealots as much as the drug traffickers.

Robert commented:
In the impending lawsuit, the Obama administration may argue that Arizona violated the Constitution by intruding on the federal government’s authority to regulate immigration.
So class-action lawsuits should be filed against “sanctuary” cities using the exact same rationale.
If anything, they are the ones guilty of the infraction, since their ordinances are in opposition to existing federal law.
It is not up to the government to pick and choose which laws it wants to enforce. If so, then perhaps the people can pick and choose which laws they want to obey, or which taxes they want to pay.
DocScience commented:

Hah. Obama is not going to secure the border because he is using the securing of the border as leverage. Arizona needs to set a precedent for other States to follow and secure its own borders.

Governor Brewer at least is trying to act in the defense of her State and our Country, something the feds seem unwilling to do. The shame is D.C. has given the Mexican smugglers a free fire zone in Arizona while at the same time placing restraints on our Warriors overseas, resulting in additional casualties for them. If as a US Citizen you are not offended by this, then America is truly in deep trouble. Forget about Party loyalty and ask yourself how safe would you and your family feel if the events in Arizona where mirrored in your hometown.

Chris Christie is opposed to new gun safety laws in New Jersey which would include bills that ban armor-piercing rifles and limit handgun purchases to one per month. Christie, asked during a press conference about then-pending legislation to limit handgun purchases to one per month replied, “I think, you know, from my looking at it across the country, you know, we have very, very good, tough gun laws in this country, in this state, and I don’t know that we need any more.”]

God, the politics is killing me. Really, GOVERNOR Brewer, you have chosen to not do your state duty to protect your state citizens in order to play tit for tat with Obama who is not doing HIS duty to protect the same citizens? Gee, could it be you are running for re-election and are willing to play this game to win? So, who is the corrupted by politics now?
I heard the Sheriff that controls, I’m sorry, as ceded control of part of his county because the feds won’t “control the border” in that area, lament on how he is so helpless. Embarrassing.
I spent twenty years working the streets. If the DEA didn’t go after drug smugglers in my city we didn’t roll over and start sucking on our thumbs and pout like a three year old. WE put a team together and went after them. Here’s a clue, and I’m sure it stands in Arizona too, drug smuggling is a STATE offense as well as federal one. If Julio the Mexican drug cartel smuggler is sneaking over with an AK47 and twenty pounds of cocaine he gets to go to jail, for a long time in state prison!
There is no excuse for a Sheriff to cede any ground to any criminal. All he has to do is call the Governor who can send state officers, task over agents from other departments and create a hundred man task force dedicated to sealing that hole. Throw in a couple of tuned in .308 Remingtons with 6×14 scopes or a Barrett .50 or two and you are good to go.
Crime and criminals are drawn to a vacuum. Here the vacuum is being created by politics. It disgusts me that Obama is willing to trade lives and safety for future democratic voters, but ask yourself a hard question. How is it that Brewer’s over the top antics to gander current conservative voters any different?
Go ahead, keep playing that game. Just be careful, some poor innocent guy or gal might get killed because of it. Oh wait…

Christie and his supporters know that he’ll have to move to the right on key issues to have any chance of a national run in the future. Just like Romney did. I actually have more respect for a guy like Giuliani, who just lays it on the line.
In any event, I admit I’m in the minority for now. Lots of right-wingers, from Gateway Pundit to El Rushbo to Coulter are clearly enamored with Christie, based on some tough-talking clips. We’ll see if his record holds up to scrutiny.

So we’ve established that Christie is to the right of Jon Corzine! I totally agree! Am I supposed to be impressed when he praises gun laws and says,”I don’t know that we need any more…”? Gee, thanks, Chris!
As far as “substance” is concerned: Christie said what he said about illegals. It’s even quoted in one of your links, along with an attempt to explain it away. Apparently, he didn’t really mean it, or something. In that other clip you linked, Christie says, “I wasn’t always pro-life…” I didn’t even know he flipped on that, lol! When did that revelation occur? I’m sensing a pattern here.

okay, lets put it in the “context” of the laws Chris Christie
was sworn to uphold as a US Attorney vs his own personal views..
Christie clarifies: ‘Illegal’ immigrants are in civil violation
[Q: Christie said immigrants in the county illegally are not
automatically committing a crime by their presence. Is that true?
A: Yes. "Illegal presence" as the offense is called, is not a violation of the U.S. criminal code. A person cannot be sent to prison for being here without authorization from immigration authorities. It is, however, a violation of civil immigration laws, for which the federal government can impose civil penalties, namely deportation.
Q: But he was later asked a hypothetical question about someone sneaking across the border and said that's not a crime either. Is that true, too?
A: No. "Improper entry by an alien" as it is called, is a violation of Title 8 of the U.S. criminal code punishable by a fine of between $50 and $250 and/
or a maximum of six months in jail.
It is considered difficult to prosecute because unless authorities catch someone in the act of crossing the border, it is easier to just deport them than spend the time and money needed to prove how they crossed the border. Even in border states, first-time offenders are rarely prosecuted because
the court system would be inundated with millions of cases.
Q: So it's a crime to enter the country illegally, but not a crime
to be here illegally. How can you do one without the other?
A: It's not hard, and millions of people have done it. People obtain legal visas to enter the U.S. for work, study or tourism and then simply remain in the coun try after the visa expires. Of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States, studies show about 40 percent to 50 percent came here legally but are now illegal immigrants.]
