Whoever thought just six months ago that a Republican would out-poll both Senator John Kerry and Barack Obama… in MASSACHUSETTS?

The Boston Globe reported:

US Senator Scott Brown, who only months ago was a little-known figure even within the tiny band of Republicans in the state Senate, not only catapulted to national stature with his upset US Senate victory, but is today the most popular officeholder in Massachusetts, according to a Boston Globe poll.

After less than five months in Washington, Brown outpolls such Democratic stalwarts as President Obama and US Senator John F. Kerry in popularity, the poll indicates. He gets high marks not only from Republicans, but even a plurality of Democrats views him favorably.

The support for Brown, whose victory became a symbol of voter anger, is consistent with widespread sentiment that incumbents in Massachusetts and Washington “need to be replaced with a new crop of leaders.’’ That statement was supported by 50 percent of those polled, while 28 percent said they trust the incumbents.

Yet there’s one surprising consolation for Bay State Democrats who hope to defuse the voter backlash. When asked whether they will vote for a Democrat or Republican in their own congressional district in November, 42 percent of likely voters say they will vote for the Democrat and 27 percent will vote Republican.

  1. I sent money to Scott, to stop health care. He’s made some bone-headed votes since he was elected. We can have hope, at least.
    .

  2. It proves all politics, and political strategy is local.

We don’t like some of his votes, obviously Mass. does.

He’s there to take care of himself before us, as are most of the people we elect.

  3. Scott Brown has made some outstanding votes since he’s been in office as well. Don’t let the media digs at Brown sway you.

Scott Brown is !,000% better than a Coakley or Kennedy. Please don’t forget that.

  4. He was the cave in vote ( after holding out and then having a meeting with Harry Reid) for the nightmare financial deform bill! RINO!

  5. Scott Brown was ALWAYS going to be a “vote with us 70% of the time” kind of Republican. That’s OK. His vote on healthcare was critical at the time and 70% is far better than the alternative. What his popularity shows is that he has successfully managed to show those here in Mass. who feared the election of a Republican that he is not an ideologue and will vote his conscience for what he believes is best for Mass. This is GOOD news because if he can’t get re-elected we WILL end up with another hardcore Democrat in 2012.

  6. Mass voters are unhappy with the States position but will vote for the same people, party and politics that put it in that very position! Is any additional proof needed that the majority of that States electorate are emotional, educational, moral and intellectual cretin’s?. They are progressive slaves, toiling on the Plantation of Liberalism, without the strength or will to “CHANGE”. It’s pathetic to see such eviserated people.

  7. Wow. Popular despite the fact that the SEIU has been running anti Scott Brown ads continually since the election. It’s as though the campaign is still going on for the unions.

  8. I am proud of the performance of Scott Brown. Sure I would have preferred he go in there and shut everything down until the people get to vote in November. However, as North East republicans tend to go, he is not as eager to vote with the Democrats . After November, given a clear electoral mandate against Obamunism, I believe Brown will be an even more solid vote along conservative lines.

  9. Let’s hope he changes his vote on financial reform now…

    Spot on Jim.
You critics of Scott Brown don’t know how liberal this state is & just what an albatross the JF Kennedy legacy is on the necks of the GOP up here…

Sure it would be nice if the guy was a lock step Conservative, but then he’d NO zero zip nada chance in 2012 when his seat comes up again.

That’s how this state is a lot of the working class Democrats still think there are actually JFK’s & Scoop Jackson’s left in their party.

If you want to help donate to Sean Bielat for Congress in the 4th District (That’s Barney’s Seat).

    &
Don’t let anyone fool you, about this Congressional race; the other GOP candidate Earl Sholley is a perpetual also ran who is about as dynamic as algae.

Say what you will about Barney Frank the man figured out long ago that being controversial is his best way to stay relevant.

I’ve seen Protazoa that have more personality than Earl Sholley.

  11. A RINO is better than a Democrat any day. At least Scott Brown votes Repub on a number of important issues.

  12. He’s a RINO until proven otherwise. Time will tell. He hasn’t been long enough in D.C. So give him time to be more full of himself and feel important. Then we’ll see who is the REAL Scott Brown.

  13. “Yet there’s one surprising consolation for Bay State Democrats who hope to defuse the voter backlash. When asked whether they will vote for a Democrat or Republican in their own congressional district in November, 42 percent of likely voters say they will vote for the Democrat and 27 percent will vote Republican.”
    .
Not much consolation, truth be told.
What they fail to mention in the article is the 6% “other” and the 26% “don’t know”.
    http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2010/06/28/globe_poll/
All signs point to this 32% being Independents,
which does not bode well for the dims this November.

  14. Wouldn’t it be nice if the 17th Amendment were repealed and everyone knew he stood for the State Of Massachusetts.

RINOs serve a purpose … they vote for Conservative Leader of Senate.

  15. The problem we have had in the past with RINO’s is not their taking more liberal positions to please their constituency, but rather their taking more liberal positions to please the media. I have hope that Brown will prove to be the former rather than the latter.

  16. Dems have to go. If a RINO gets in, OK for now.

Where RINO’s are in now, go for conservative replacement.

They all have to go, the system needs to be flushed.

  17. I will second the shout-out for Sean Bielat! A previously moribund republican party is re-energized in Massachusetts following Scott Brown’s election (even if he turns out to be the worst kind of RINO, THIS is a great legacy of his election) and I think we have a real chance to take down Barney Frank. We have a real, honest-to-god candidate in Sean who can really take it to him. Frank is more vulnerable now than he has ever been and a solid candidate like Sean has a real shot. I met him at the Boston Tea Party event a couple months ago and encourage everyone to support him however they can.

  18. In defense of Scott Brown, you have to remember that Scott is up for re-election again in 2012, and you will NEVER have a politician please everyone all the time.

It is important for Conservatives to hold this seat in 2012, and to regain a U.S. Senate majority in order to repeal the worst of these Progressive Democrat laws, along with a more conservative Republican president.

Scott represents a state that still has moderate and liberal interests, and my guess is that he will feel a mandate to move more to the right after the November elections.

Pendulums as large as the liberal one of Massachusetts, do not swing back instantly.

The important thing is for voters to not forget all the back-stabbing, lies, and under-handed dirty tricks that Obama, and the democrats, have done to the American people, before this November election.

Voter anger needs to reach a crescendo right before the elections. We cannot forget what has been done to our republic.

  19. Jim,

    You’re absolutely correct.

  20. Isn’t that like being the sweetest smelling turd in the sewer?

  21. For all of you folks out there who want to flush the RINO’s, it all comes down to whether you want to see the Republicans control the Senate or not. The Democrat seats up this year are primarily in blue states where only a RINO has a chance in hell of getting elected. That is why the Republicans have a chance in California, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Washington and Wisconsin.

That is also why strong conservatives in those states did not win the primary election. The Republicans in those states knew a more moderate Republican was their only hope. This is a center-right country. Please note the word center in that description and that means moderate Republicans are needed whether we like it or not. Dismissing them as RINO’s does not help our cause any.

  22. A RINO is no better than a progressive. They go hand in hand.

  23. Look, Scott Brown is as conservative as you’re gonna get from a bluer-than-blue state like Massachusetts. Would it be better if he voted with us 100% of the time? Sure. Is it likely to happen? No. Is “more often than not” better than “not at all”? Absolutely.

  24. and these are the critters running the ad against brown. part of the global warming cartel i would happen to guess and most likely didn’t pull the lever for brown. when atleast 85% of the legislature is dem…….

Scott Brown is !,000% better than a Coakley or Kennedy. Please don’t forget that.

    That’s true. But he’s still a RINO.

A RINO is no better than a progressive. They go hand in hand.

RINO’s manage to work well with Progressives and even vote with them half the time, but the two aren’t the same. Better to vote for a RINO than a Progressive because at least the RINOs can be convinced by fellow Republicans about half the time to vote with them.
