Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said today that the new weak sanctions that just passed the Security Council are worthless and “like a used piece of paper that should be thrown to the garbage.”
YNet News reported:
Iran says Wednesday’s Security Council decision to impose further sanctions on Tehran is worthless, stressing that it will not be abandoning its nuclear program.
The UN resolution “is worthless for the Iranian people,” President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said following the vote.
The Iranian leader said that the latest Security Council decision will not be harming Iran’s citizens, slamming the US for using its own nuclear weapons to threaten other countries.
“Those who possess a nuclear bomb themselves and used it in the past, are now using it to threaten others,” he said. “These decisions are like a used piece of paper that should be thrown to the garbage.”
He’s right.
The sanctions won’t stop the evil regime’s mad dash to nukes or even slow it down. We all know that.

Maybe the sanctions need some teeth added to them. If they aren’t tough enough now, make them tougher and keep making them tougher until Ahmadinejad starts complaining.
The UN won’t do anything though because it’s scared to death to piss anyone off.

I watched Obama’s statement on Iran today. What had struck me most, in an “I-can’t-believe-my-ears” way, was his statement that Iranian intransigence had been fully established sixteen (16!) months ago when he took office. Back then, I seem to remember, there was endless ardent talk of extending open hands and unconditional talks.
Query: if Obama knew Iran was intransigent sixteen months ago, why is he only making a statement on the issue now, those selfsame sixteen months later?
Query #2: now that Iran’s nuclear program is running full-bore, thanks to sixteen months of dawdling, what exactly are Obama’s “sanctions” going to accomplish?
