Michelle Obama brought down the house literally at George Washington University’s graduation. The First Lady gave one of the most depressing speeches on record.
What a downer.

Jeez, I graduated from college at the start of the Carter recession and housing rates rose to 21%. Hmm. It’s a wonder I still can have a sunny disposition with all the terrible things I’ve endured. I don’t think Ronald Reagan would have EVER dreamed giving such a sour speech.

This is true–I walked into the front room for something and Fox was showing her speech. I paused for about 10 seconds and she had a severe scowl on her face, her mouth turned down, just as if she was really chewing out her kids. Man, that’s a boatload of ugly!

That they worked so hard to defend and grow this country – to see all this crap going on now, well, it would be too much.
Stuff like that business about kids wearing flag shirts to school, for fear of offending kids waving Mexican flags; or not being able to play basketball in Arizona, because Arizona wants to enforce immigration law – things like that would enrage them so they would die of heart attacks.
I’m glad as heck they didn’t have to live to see that. Or what all is coming.
It’s bad enough for me to have to live to see the day when we are expected to be ashamed of our national heritage and our freedom (or what used to be our freedom), that the greatest generation fought and died for (in the case of one of my uncles).

Funny, I was talking with my mother the other day and I was like “Be glad you’re already 60, you won’t have to experience what’s going to come.”

Other things that have happened since the class of 2010 was in middle school: the human genome has been completely mapped, the Mars Spirit rover exceeded its expected mission duration by over 5 years, space tourism became a thing, scientists developed a vaccine for cervical cancer, doctors implanted an artificial heart, and Michael Phelps has broken 37 world records. Maybe the speech mentioned this stuff, but I wanted to point out that the future is coming, and it’s going to be awesome.

My 15 year old responds: Right, most have experienced these hardships from their couch on a flat screen tv or their iphone. Think about what previous generations have dealt with -the civil war, the Great Depression, two world wars, Vietnam. These were hardships that the whole country endured, not just some.

How many lawyers does the US have anyway? I remember that the US had the largest percentage of lawyers in the world. Hardly something to be proud of. If she would have studied something of value, like physics, or medicine, or engineering (something useful) I might be more positive towards her. But law? Please! Why not psychology! Same crap!
What kind of degree does she have anyway? A JD most likely, which is a master with a fancy name. Wow! I’m so impressed! Not.
