Barack Obama went golfing today as Nashville continued to suffer from the worst disaster since the Civil War.

i can tell you right now that i witnessed the people of Nashville volunteer to help each other no matter what the cost was….people sharing their food, using their boats to rescue others, sharing their homes, and their money to help those who were hit hard by the flood. i haven’t seen anything in the news about Nashvillians blaming the government or demanding money from the government. The flood hit Nashville fast and hard…really, there was no time until the last minute to get out. Whereas, when a hurricane hits, people are warned sometimes 1- 2 weeks in advance, giving residents time to evacuate. You know what? GWB shouldn’t have even visited those losers….as far as giving…i’d give to a Nashville flood victim before i’d give to anyone making demands on the government. Oh, and oblabla can hit his balls all he wants….no one here cares.

If we only had a president with real leadership and compassion for those who are suffering around him.
Yes it is disgusting to know that the Commander in Chief can tell jokes, laugh and play golf, while his soldiers die on the battlefield. How sad.

I’m a Nashville flood survivor. We lost 95% of our material possessions on May 2. The flood waters inundated our house 3.5 feet up the interior walls. We will have to rebuild our home.
We were not in a flood plain and did not have flood insurance. This flood went past the 500 year flood plain area. My neighborhood looks like a war zone. I don’t know how long it will take to recover, and some may not ever recover from the financial losses.
We are fortunate to have our lives and that of our pets because we took the flood seriously and left early Sunday morning. We got our vehicles to higher ground, and took wedding pictures, baby books, and a couple of changes of clothes. Most everything else is basically gone.
We have been helped by family, neighbors, church members, and complete strangers. Everyone has pitched in to get the hard work of cleanup and demolition done.
It makes me physically ill to hear the people in the Obama administration talk about all they are doing to help. They are doing NOTHING but talk. Blah blah blah. There will be no aid except for loans and some income tax deduction (not credit) for casualty losses.
Today Janet Napolitano was in Nashville and gave a press conference in my area. She tap danced her way around every question. It is all meaningless. And when asked when Obama will come to see the devastation, she danced faster than ever, never answering the question, just saying that more cabinet members would come to Nashville. Give me a break. He could not care less.
Obama is the most disgusting man I can think of right now. I think he wants to be the slavemaster over white people. I can’t figure out why else he acts the way he does. He makes me sick.
I am just thankful for the people who do know how to help and give, and for the prayers that are helping us make it through this time.

Tnxplant: Thank you for sharing your story. I am so sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine. I have family there who lost everything. The people in the South will do everything they can to help rebuild.
We are 25 miles from Yazoo City, and we’ve been working on helping families there. We will do the same for your area.
As for Obama, he’s safer on the golf course than here in the South. He has no real friends here.

If you think about all the resources a presidential visit takes- security, manpower, all the checks beforehand to make sure everything is safe- those are resources Nashville and every other disaster area does not have the time, energy or ability to give or deal with right now. Right now, Nashville is focused on getting things safe for its full-time residents and beginning the clean-up, especially before mildew and mold set in. They don’t have time to prepare for the logistical nightmare of a presidential visit. It would honestly be MORE difficult for them if he came right now, and they don’t need anything to be more difficult.

I was born and raised in Nashville and live now in Tennessee. I can tell you that for Nashville (as opposed to the rest of the mid-state), the Civil War was no disaster at all. The city was occupied very early in the war by the Yankees and suffered no destruction at all from the war. The Battle of Nashville, Dec. 1864, took place south of the city, not within it.
The floods this month were a much greater catastrophe for the city than the Civil War was.

But it’s mind-boggling that not once has he given a public statement, from his own lips, acknowledging the disaster or its scope and offering words of comfort. How much time or effort would that have taken? It’s one of the things presidents do — whether or not they carried those particular voting precincts. (The irony is, he DID carry Nashville, where whatever media attention exists is focused.)
In my opinion, this is just the latest evidence that he’s the least empathetic president in my lifetime, with the possible exception of Nixon. I wonder how President Obama’s aloofness this week will resonate with his supporters in the Nashville area. Up to now, the ones I know have found little to fault him. However inexplicable that may be.

Sorry, Stephanie, but B.O. is ignoring TN. When President Bush flew over NO after Katrina, he was horribly criticized because he didn’t put his shoes on the ground. As we know now through First Lady Laura Bush’s book, the decision was that it would create a security nightmare had he done so.
However, B.O. hasn’t even paid any attention to TN. He goes golfing. He has hit the links more in his 1.5 years than President Bush did in 8 years yet President Bush was criticized unmerciful everytime he took time to relax on the links for a couple of hours. He eventually just quit going.
I remember during the campaign in 2008 that I was concerned that B.O. was just a pretty face with little or no substance. I wondered if he had ever really worked. It is obvious to me that talking isn’t work for him . . . he never stops.
Let’s face it . . . he is the laziest occupier of the WH we ever had. Even Carter outworked this joker.

So, the Cumberland crests on Monday, May 3, and through the week residents start cleaning up and getting on with life in an admirable fashion – volunteering, concerts, reopening businesses. Federal disaster areas declared Tues morning and FEMA brought in. Obama avoids the real logistical problem of an onsite trip for a photo op. He tasks cabinet members with assisting in person. He golfs on Saturday instead of ……. what? This is supposed to be upsetting?
