I left Okinawa, Japan, almost 30 years ago after spending more than three years there as an Air Force public affairs officer. As a result, I’m very familiar with the squabbles over land use by the U.S. military. It’s been going on for decades, but is especially bad now that the socialists on Okinawa — yes, they are strong there — have a kindred spirit in Barack Obama. Thankfully, the Japanese tend to look at things over the long run and not the moment. Hopefully, this moment of socialism in America won’t last long.

They have very little land and they continue to have major problems with the U.S. military with crime, including the raping of their women, some of them young teens as well as the noise and other problems you can imagine caused by a bunch of immature young soldiers.

Media in the west always paints Hatoyama as “center left”. He’s not. He’s so far left it’s not even remotely funny.
And he’s tanking… Obama is nothing compared to that.
People are extremely unhappy with him.
But Hatoyama is like Fukuda, Aso and Abe. He’s in politics because of his daddy. Those four post-Koizumi prime ministers of Japan all come from political dynasties.
And most importantly, Hatoyama is the “do as I say, not do as I do” kind of “leader.” When the LDP made the huge “stimulus package”, he and his friends in the DPJ were screaming murder.
However, the moment he was in power, his party set up the biggest budget in the history of Japan.
Last I checked his support in Japan was as low as 25%.
Also funny is, a lot of people said “nothing will change” prior to last year’s elections. And they were right.

Shall we go into details of what elements of the US troops did to Japanese women during the occupation? Tokyo-Kanagawa area: almost 1,400 reported rapes just in the opening days of the occupation. Some of your American “officers and gentlemen” happily raped as well. Thousands of women have been raped by elements of the US military and even the Aussies. The Aussies, however, fess up to it. Their historians aren’t cowards, unlike their American counterparts, who have been whitewashing this for decades.
Or shall we go into the nukes, which were, from a military point of view, totally not necessary? Ike, Spaatz, even MacArthur and a few other important generals agree that the nukes were not decisive.
Or the conventional air raids, which hit primarily women and children and didn’t lead the emperor to even remotely consider surrender?
Their defense bills? Japan has one of the biggest military budgets in the world.
The Okinawans are pissed off and rightfully so. They’ve always been shafted by the central government in Tokyo. Always. Ever since Japan occupied Okinawa (it used to be an independent kingdom) the people of Okinawa received the sh*tty end of the stick. During the empire they were looked down upon and treated like crap. Many Okinawan women were raped first by Japanese soldiers during the battle of Okinawa, and then by black GIs. Those women who dare to come forward today always say that the black GIs were the worst. Strange.
The problems on Okinawa arise simply because Okinawa is small, yet they carry the brunt of the US forces.
What Japan needs to do is simple:
Out with the Americans, or at least reduce the number of troops.
Increase the Japanese forces (double at least.)
Drop Article 9 of the Constitution (it’s anachronistic and stupid.)
Go nuclear to keep the Northies and the Chinese off their lawn.

Don’t know about rape stats. Historians lie ALOT. But the two bombs saved lives on BOTH sides. I know the Aussies do not like Nuclear power. Whaaaa, who you going to trust with it? They think they’re some supreme race that’s incapable of barbarism and criminality and that only foreigners commit crimes in japan. And your assertion that the japs are paying us billions of dollars every year in order to have our soldiers stationed in their country is absolutely false. They aren't paying us a single damn dime. We're the ones footing the bill for their security. Which in turn is what makes their entire socialist society even possible. We've injected countless billions of dollars into their economy due to our mere presence there. Not the other way around.
There's no way they could ever hope to defend themselves in a war against their archrival China. Most japs are complete cowards these days who would simply run away if they were ever invaded.
