Illinois High School Nixes B-Ball Trip to Arizona Due to a "Conflict in Beliefs & Values" But Will Send Students to Marxist China

Highland Park Assistant Superintendent Suzan Hebson told reporters today that the girl’s basketball team will not be allowed to travel to Arizona for a tournament due to a “conflict in beliefs and values” but the school has no problem sending students to Communist China.
FOX News reported:
Parents in Illinois are outraged over a move by a local high school to scrap its girls basketball team’s trip to Arizona over the Grand Canyon State’s new immigration law.
The Highland Park High School varsity basketball team has been selling cookies for months to raise money for a tournament in Arizona..
Now, after winning their first conference title in 26 years, the girls are being denied the opportunity to play in the tournament over safety concerns and because the trip “would not be aligned” with the school’s “beliefs and values,” Assistant Superintendent Suzan Hebson told the Chicago Tribune.
Hebson said Arizona is off-limits, at least until it’s more clear how the state’s new law, which makes it a crime to be in the country illegally, will be enforced…
“I’m not sure whose values and what values and what beliefs they’re talking about, we were just going to Arizona to play basketball and our daughters were very disappointed to find out the trip had been canceled,” Michael Evans, a father of one of the players told Fox News…
Evans said he also failed to understand why the school allowed so many other trips, but not this one.
“The school has sent children to China, they’ve sent children to South America, they’ve sent children to the Czech Republic, but somehow Arizona is more unsafe for them than those places,” he said.

If you look at effects of the bad economy you will see the people it impacts most here in AZ are illegals. Thousands of illegals have left the state due to the poor economy over the last year. I think it’s time the parents and citizens of this school inform Ms. Hebson she needs to look for other work. The law has been online and there is plenty of information available to her and her types to be duly informed about how the law will be implemented. Even so, what business does she have making such decisions in the first place, after these students and parents have gone through what they have to raise the funds to attend a tournament in Arizona? It is well past time to show these tyrants and ignoramuses the door. Ms. Hebson and her ilk are clear and present dangers to the children whom she is entrusted to ensure are educated, and not misled by political correctness run amuck. If she is so terribly biased and willfully ignorant of the law, she is eminently unqualified for the responsibilities of her position. And she appears to be exercising dubious authority to make such decisions as well. The parents of these students must demand this to end, bottom line.

The schools phony intone all day long about “Leadership” and “Sacrifice” and Work” and then they ARBITRARILY pull the rug out from under a team of girls who are the BEST students they have – they have to keep up their GPAs to be allowed to play Varsity sports.
Parents should demand their taxed money back, and use it to pay for the girls to play in AZ.

Next, bring in the “grief counselors” to console the girls, and finally take the administrators to court and add “pain and suffering” to the punitive damages…I’m sure some University of Chicago law professors would just be happy to represent them pro bono, right?

I went to HPHS in my junior and senior year. At the time. At the time Highland Park was predominately Jewish. Highwood whose border was literally 2 blocks north of the school, had large population of Hispanics who for some reason hated the Italian kids . The animosity was a big problem then and this was the early 70′s. The principle addressed the entire student body concerning the on campus fighting at least twice that I can remember.
Funny how the same people they “defend” are the ones who they fear will riot.

If I were a parent of one of these girls, I would do a number of things:
1. Find out if the decision was left up to Ms. Hebson, and if so, start a campaign to get her fired.
2. If the decision was made by the school board, whose minutes are available to the public, I would find out which board members voted to nix the basketball trip, and start a recall campaign.
3. I would gather the rest of the parents of the basketball players and attend every school board meeting and bring up the trip during the public comment section – make an issue of it, get the press involved, get more parents involved, etc. Make the board overturn the decision.
4. I’d get the news out of this bad, partisan decision to as many bloggers as I could – but it looks like this one is already underway.
These ideas, if enacted, would light a small fire under the seats of those idiots who made this decision. It would make the whole thing a ‘teachable moment’ for the girls, and maybe they’d get to go after all.

I read no illegal immigrants on the team. They don’t even look hispanic so that’s not it. What is needed, is a volunteer to coach the girls and take them anyway, provided the parents and the students want to play. Just take them out of school if need be.
