Disgusting! Mexican President Calderon to Address Congress & Push for Immigration Reform Today

Unbelievable!… After bashing American law yesterday on the White House lawn, Mexican President Calderon will speak to a joint session of Congress today and push for US immigration reform.
The AP reported:
Mexican President Felipe Calderon is taking his case for a fair and orderly overhaul of U.S. immigration policies to the people who can do something about it: members of Congress.
One day after private meetings with President Barack Obama and White House celebrations in his honor, Calderon pivots Thursday to Capitol Hill. He is addressing a joint meeting of Congress, where he is expected to push for immigration changes and emphasize the economic priorities linking the U.S. and Mexico.
Calderon’s state visit comes at a time of renewed furor over the flawed immigration system from Mexico into the United States. From border security troubles to questions about how to deal with the millions of illegal migrants living in the U.S., the immigration debate remains politically vexing, frustrating and volatile.
Obama is lobbying lawmakers to get moving on legislation that would seek to deal with the security, employment and citizenship issues all at once. But he concedes he doesn’t yet have the Republican support he would need to get such a complex deal done. Whether any progress will happen this year is unclear.
Stoking the matter is a new law approved by Arizona lawmakers and set to take effect July 29 unless derailed by legal challenges. It requires police, in the context of enforcing other laws, to question people about their immigration status if there’s reason to suspect they are in the country illegally.
Calderon calls that discriminatory, and Obama agrees the Arizona law could well be applied that way. He has ordered a Justice Department review.
If he bashes America or American law and Congress sits on their hands they all deserve to be voted out in November.

This is outrageous ! I am tired of the lies about the Arizona law. If it is legal for the Border Patrol and ICE to ask for proof of citizenship/legal entry, then how does it become racial profiling/unconstitutional if a state police officer asks the very same question? It doesn’t, they only want want it that way so that once they get pass the border they are safe from prosecution. This is like saying once you break into my home, you can live there.

Diplomatic etiquette says that we cannot directly confront a foreign leader on a speech he/she gives. However, the first and immediate response to any implied or direct reference to our immigration policies and his country’s “migrants” should be two-fold: 1) what specifically are you doing to eliminate the drug wars that are causing the death of US citizens both on the border and while in Mexico? 2) we will consider making changes to our immigration laws and policies to align with yours, with comparable limits and enforcement.
Mexico’s laws, and illegal aliens’ treatment, are notoriously strict and severe. And, any leader, Congressman, or diplomat (including our non-POTUS) needs to immediately address the threat to US citizens that is faced DAILY due to Mexico’s inability to control their citizens, especially regarding the drug lords and gangs, as well as their tendency to “migrate” here illegally.
THAT is what our POTUS and leaders should be hammering non-stop with the Mexican President, IMHO.

Bill Bennett read a portion of the FEDERAL immigration law that has been on the books for over 50 years. It states that all immigrants MUST CARRY documents to verify their status at all times, and can be stopped and asked for them without reason. Without any other reason than a lark or a suspicion. I’d say that the Federal law is far harsher than this AZ law is, and the AZ law goes to great lengths to guarantee fairness. Why can’t anyone SAY THIS OUT LOUD SO THAT THE STUPID LIBERALS CAN HEAR IT? Was I shouting?

An employer could turn in a prospective hire’s name and Social Security number, which could be matched against the database. A mismatch, such as age or name, would return a negative result. The hire could not be completed.
This would be very simple to implement, and would go far toward addressing the problem.

When I first entered Mexico 12 years ago (lawfully for my honemoon) we got off the plane to meet a real traffic light, papers in hand.
At random, each person walked in front of it and they were either given the “green” or “red” light. Armed police/soldiers everywhere. It was surreal.
Green-GO, Red-pat down and luggage search, possibly detained.
They asked us for all our ID’s including passport and hotel confirmation, how much cash we had, and warned us about overstaying our welcome.
At that moment I thought about how difficult it is to get in to Mexico while millions of Mexicans are walking through deserts and climbing fences to get out.

Trish #11 – I just was doing my morning browsing of Hot Air (hotair.com) and saw that Sarah Palin did say just that yesterday on Fox. She mentioned that the AZ law is MORE lenient than US federal law on the illegal immigrant’s checks. She also expressed that amnesty is a distraction – it is being used to keep the focus off securing the borders, which should be our priority, as the AZ law does.
I also noticed that Mark Levin last night said basically what I said about the Mexican laws in my prior post. His opinion: take the Mexican Constitution’s statements on how to handle illegal immigrants “WORD FOR WORD” and introduce them as “HR whatever” and give right back what Mexico gives to its illegal “migrants.” I hadn’t heard his opinion until after I posted, so I am amazed and thankful that someone else sees the hypocricy and the obvious solution to the Mexican president’s inflammatory rhetoric.

I constantly hear liberals on television saying that El Paso, a border city, is one of the safest cities in the country. I guess it all depends on how crime statistics are reported.
I live 40 miles from El Paso and three people were murdered in their homes here a couple of weeks ago. We are being told that they were murdered by a hitman that was hired in Juarez.
We had a couple that went to Juarez to get married. They were murdered leaving the church. But El Paso is safe.

You should hear Mexico’s Constitution, in regards to non-Mexicans. My obvious concern is that the illegals choose to demonstrate here in America when all their energies should be to demonstrate in Mexico. Why is it they need to leave their own country? Why are they so willing to risk death to come here? It reminds me of East Germany. The President of the United States has aligned himself with the President of a foreign country in criticising the govermnent of a State within the United States for drafting a law that mirrors federal law which our President refuses to enforce.
This clearly follows Obama’s pattern of behavior to date. I rather like Calderon’s attempts to regain control of Mexico from the criminal gangs, although they’ve not been very successful.
