DEVASTATING: Video Shows Feds Knew Of Potential Ecological Disaster Immediately After Rig Explosion

This is devastating.
Federal officials knew of the potential ecological disaster after the oil rig explosion on April 20th.

A National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration video, shot as officials coordinated response to the Deepwater Horizon disaster, shows that federal officials almost immediately worried that the oil well could leak up to 110,000 barrels per day, or 4.6 million gallons.
The video appears on a federal Web site.
It was filmed in Seattle, at NOAA’s Western Regional Center, as scientists and federal officials in Seattle, Houston and New Orleans engaged in telephone conferences, according to a companion document on the Web site.
It took President Obama 12 days to visit the disaster area today.
Yesterday, The New York Times reported that Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was not aware the Defense Department had equipment for dealing with oil slicks. The White House defended their non-response today.

On April 29th, Ron Gouget, who once managed Gulf spill response teams, publicly pilloried the administration’s response to the tragic oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. Gouget helped create the 1994 plan that allowed expedited burning of oil as soon as a major spill had occurred — without having to wait for permission or approvals.

Well, just like New Orleans had the Emergency Plan guidelines to follow – to anticipate that 200,000 people would need help evacuating and for the MAYOR to use public transport vehicles and school busses to get them out BEFORE the hurricane hit – there was no need whatsoever to reinvent something that had already been established – all they had to do was open the book and follow the instructions.

so what if obama didn’t go visit the oil rig. what was he going to do ; stop the leak, put out the fire. katrina was the biggest hoax in the history of the american media. it was a hurricane. there wasn’t anything anyone could do about the damage it caused. all you can do is clean up afterwards. all of the other problems in new orleans were self-inflicted and due to incompetence of the local officials, most of whom were democrats. katrina, contrary to what the media concentrated on didn’t just hit new orleans, it hit florida, georgia, alabama, mississippi, louisiana and texas. anyone ever findout which one of these areas got all that aid that was suppose to go to new orleans, but never got sent because most of it’s citizens were black. if you ever find out let me know.

He could have authorized the resources at his disposal to respond. He and his dufusses didn’t even know the military has recovery and containment. He certainly could have cancelled his “Comedy Act” and a couple of rounds of golf.
Do some research about where the FEMA money went. The other states who were hit hard by Katrina got shortchanged big time…and a lot of FRAUDULENT claims originated from New Orleans for damage they did not sustain.

Some people in the oil industry are saying there is no way this was an accident and could have only been done by sabotage. Hmmm… it shuts down drilling, destroys the economy in several states and (ruins our beaches on top of that). Who could possibly benefit from that??? I was on a major oil company’s Oil Spill Response Team in the early 90′s. Gouget is correct that burning is the preferred method. Its nasty from a public health and safety perspective (smoke and risk of facility and third party impact) BUT burning is the best for the environment especially in the semi-closed environment of the Gulf.
Disperants in the Gulf isn’t a good idea because the water circulates like a toilet bowl. Disperants in open ocean is great because you can rely on “the solution to pollution is dilution”.
Obama’s SWAT comment was immensely stupid. He should have been calling on all the operators in the Gulf to share their supplies with BP, even at the risk of being under equipped. OIL COMPANIES DO WANT TO HELP EACH OTHER IN SPILL RESPONSE. There are many mutual aid agreements between companies and each company knows they will pay the price for a bad response by a competitor. With fear of Obama’s swat teams, the operators will be sitting on their recovery equipment hoping to pass Obama’s inspection.
Personally, I would have requested permission from the Coast Guard to burn. I’d hire a bunch of helicopters and have them drop road flares. Then I set up a bunch of skimmers and recovery boats outside the burn zone to pick up what didn’t burn.
No way on Disperants though. Seafood is a big industry in the Gulf and disperants have toxic components that can get in the food chain. Plus, disperants probably won’t work in the relatively placid seas in the Gulf. You need lots of wave motion to make it work (think washing maching).

Not only that, the OPA 1990 puts the president in charge of oil spills so there will be no delay in getting it under control, early, before it gets really big, I think that was supposed to be sooner than 12 days … so it didn’t get really big … Congress dreamed up this law, when it was deemed that only government could do things like this quickly.
Maybe Obama-commie needs to read the job description … I don’t think campaigning is an official presidential duty.
