A whopping 73% of Americans approve of the Arizona law that requires people to produce documents verifying their legal status.

Despite the harsh words from Barack Obama and Marxist Hugo Chavez in Venezuela, a broad majoirty of Americans approve of the Arizona immigration law.
The Pew Research Center reported:

The public broadly supports a new Arizona law aimed at dealing with illegal immigration and the law’s provisions giving police increased powers to stop and detain people who are suspected of being in the country illegally.

Fully 73% say they approve of requiring people to produce documents verifying their legal status if police ask for them. Two-thirds (67%) approve of allowing police to detain anyone who cannot verify their legal status, while 62% approve of allowing police to question people they think may be in the country illegally.

After being asked about the law’s provisions, 59% say that considering everything, they approve of Arizona’s new illegal immigration law while 32% disapprove.

The latest national survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, conducted May 6-9 among 994 adults, finds that Democrats are evenly split over Arizona’s new immigration law: 45% approve of the law and 46% disapprove. However, majorities of Democrats approve of two of the law’s principal provisions: requiring people to produce documents verifying legal status (65%) and allowing police to detain anyone unable to verify their legal status (55%).

It looks like Arizona gets the last laugh.

  1. Harsh words from Hugo Chavez? Now that is something I lose sleep over every night.

  2. God Bless Arizona

  3. It’s not going good for Democrats.

    November 2010 is roosting time.

  5. It is very, very telling that obama and chavez are on the same side of the discussion regarding AZ immigration legislation….

  6. Since when has OUR opinion mattered to anyone in Washington, DC ???

They tax us, but don’t represent us and that is major cause for “concern”.

  7. I, for one, will be waiving my passport for all to see at the next Tea Party. I am proud to prove my citizenship of this great country.

  8. Despite harsh words from Obama and Chavez or because of them? I read the editorial page in the Boston Globe every day just so I know how NOT to vote.

  9. Chavez needs to shut his trap and mind his own business. This is a state issue. He needs to go pound sand. No one cares what he thinks.

  10. What do you expect from Obama and Chavez, two of the biggest turds in the international punchbowl?

  11. We all know that Obama governs against the people but when a poll shows that 73% of Americans want illegal immigration cut — someone in the White House should take notice. Not a smart move to have all those Hispanic marchers at time when Americans are hurting for jobs.

  12. Yes, God Bless Arizona.

  13. So, when is that next press conference scheduled for?

  14. Thank you, Lord, for Brewer in Arizona

  15. The poll might have been better if the questions had been phrased something like this:
    1. Opinion of requiring you to produce documents verifying your legal status.
    2. Allowing police to detain you if you are unable to verify your legal status.
    3. Allowing police to question you as to your legal status.

It’s always easy to support laws that only impact the “other.”

  16. I think the rising popular support is due to more and more people, hearing about all these boycotts, now realize that that law is 100% effective in keeping out Californians. I can see every state enacting similar laws once they realize that benefit. Even California.

  17. last laugh?

Boy, someone is counting chickens before they hatch.

The public support for this law will entirely depend on how it is actually enforced. Or, more specifically, how the MSM portrays it as being enforced. All it will take are a few bad apples who mistreat citizens and the MSM will have enough sob-stories to flip a lot of the fickle public.

  18. Who the hell is Ovez?

  19. I can’t believe what is happening, the outragous Marxist crap just keeps coming.

  20. Honestly, it is as if half the population is flat out stupid. I am not against diversity and immigration. I am against “ILLEGAL” immigration. All of the stupid arguments for it leave out the whole point of the argument. I am getting real tired of “stupid”.

  21. The Chavez thing just floors me. Why would we give two $hits about that piece of garbage and how he has destroyed his country?

Arizona has done an excellent job with this law and it has unified most AMERICANS against the wacko libtard weak sisters!! The support is going to continue to grow. Even Hussein’s core voting block backs this law by a huge majority.
