Christie-Brewer ’12
Last weekend 30,000 New Jersey union workers and radicals protested Governor Chris Christie’s state-saving policies.
This won’t make them feel much better.
The Politico reported:
New Jersey GOP Gov. Chris Christie told a disgruntled teacher that if she doesn’t like the pay, she doesn’t “have to do it.”
Christie was speaking to a small crowd in a church gymnasium in Rutherford on Tuesday when the Bergen County Record caught the exchange between Kearny teacher Rita Wilson and the governor.
Wilson claimed that if she were getting paid only three dollars an hour for the 30 students she teaches, her salary would be $83,000 a year, a much higher sum than her current take.
“You’re getting more than that if you include the cost of your benefits,” Christie pointed out.
The teacher responded by saying that she has a master’s degree and that her current salary isn’t compensating her for the value of her higher education as well as her experience.
To that, the governor responded: “Well, you know then that you don’t have to do it.”

So for this teacher it is NOT for the children.
Her pay (and benefits) is the bottom line.

I love this guy!

So Christie said out loud what every single one of us is thinking. That’s what I call a refreshing response by a politician.
To Kearny teacher Rita Wilson: If you and the rest of the public school teachers are so concerned about low teacher salaries, then don’t take jobs with what you consider low pay. See, either what you do as a teacher is not worth as much as you think or you’re suppressing the level of teacher’s pay by taking positions for less than market value. Or, if you want, you could go get your Ph.D. in a field that is in high demand (e.g., a business field) and be a college professor. Then you could even make more than $83,000/year.

that’s gonna leave a mark.

Master’s Degree. What’s that, another year of “cultural” studies. Master’s Thesis on the meaning of “Kwanza”? Get a real job.

GOD BLESS AND PROTECT CHRIS CHRISTIE. This man is the kind of president we need in the Oval office after the catastrophy the little man/child has made. Obama should be gettin his 3 meals a day in PRISON instead of the White House.
Chip Bennett commented:
Oh, by the way: Rita Wilson’s salary is $86,000+.
Greg H commented:
And she actually makes $86,389

Here is an update on this shady “Disclosure Act” that the Democrat/Union machine is trying to get passed before the November elections:
background:
The Daily Caller has a story that adds to the whole unions-are-bankrolling-democrats, and democrats-are-protecting-unions-rights-to-bankroll-them:
http://dailycaller.com/2010/05/21/republicans-claim-campaign-finance-amendment-favors-unions/
Basically, the GOP is calling out the democrats for falsely trying to convey to the American public, that the dems are wanting to stop unions from contributing to political campaigns.
The Democrats have this bill called the “Disclosure Act”, that they are wanting to amend campaign finance laws with.
I’ve read the bill:
http://vanhollen.house.gov/UploadedFiles/DISCLOSE_Act.pdf
the word “corporation” was mentioned 26 times
the word “union” was mentioned only once.
The “one-time” that unions are mentioned in the beginning of the bill makes it sound like the bill is going to go after unions, but then the rest of the bill focuses on corporations.
Again, 26 times corporations were mentioned.
unions mentioned once.
I agree that this is a farce, and that the democrats will NEVER try to stop the unions from bankrolling them. They are only interested in stopping corporations from bankrolling elections.
The democrats know that corporations bankroll democrats and republicans, but that the unions only bankroll the democrats.

update: The U.S. Chamber of Commerce sent a letter to Congress shedding more light on this subject…here are some excerpts:
“Political speech by labor unions would not be covered by the legislation: Although unions and their political action committees are the single largest contributor to political campaigns and claim to have spent nearly $450 million in the 2008 presidential race, their political speech would effectively not be covered by H.R. 5175. The legislation would require corporations and labor unions to report donors who have given as little as $600 during the year. Because an average union member pays annual dues far beneath that threshold, most unions would not be required to disclose their donors even when they spend millions of dollars on political advertising.”
“To conclude, the clear purpose of this legislation is irretrievably to upend First Amendment protections of political speech in the months leading up to an election. The protection of free speech rights are too important to the foundation of American democracy to be infringed upon. Unfortunately, H.R. 5175 does just that. Accordingly, the Chamber strongly urges you to oppose H.R. 5175.”

Teachers here were told to teach 2 more hours every week. Mind you, here school usually ends, max, at 13:20 (and that is in high school.) Teachers here have all the vacations and holidays that students have.
So… guess what our teachers did?
They went on strike. So did the students. Because they’re oh so overworked. Boohoo. Bunch of sissies.
Anyway.
I wonder what that woman has her master in. I guess it’s another one of those things that mess up our kids.
Maybe she should start teaching instead of indoctrinating.
DINORight commented:
When I was in school years ago, it was a given that teachers made the lowest salaries – you only went into teaching if you LOVE to teach and/or LOVE kids! Now they make more than twice what they used to, more than some in many areas. And, of course, there is the fact that jobs are tough to come by these days, so she should be thankful she HAS one! Clueless, too, if what Chip #7 and Greg #8 say is true. Isn’t the internet wonderful!?

As my boss frequently points out, “I saw how hard I had to work in college compared to the Education majors, and there’s no comparison.” I always noticed how the people I knew that either graduated in 3 years or had 4.0 GPA’s were all Education majors. I’m not saying there aren’t good teachers, but the “I deserve more because I have advanced degrees” crap doesn’t fly with me. Education degrees are easy.
Just compute how much teachers make per hour. Be sure you factor in their benefits when you do it. You won’t be happy.
Craig commented:
“The teacher responded by saying that she has a master’s degree and that her current salary isn’t compensating her for the value of her higher education as well as her experience.”
I’m pretty sure the “value” of her education/experience is determined by the free market, not her. Good thing for her the government is pays her salary, instead.
May God bless and protect that man.
Male Silverback commented:
Reminds me of an old saying I learned in the Army, “Those who can do and those who can’t teach.”
Maybe she should get another degree.
michael commented:
wow. who’s gonna educate all you commentators’ kids? You? No wonder we’re going down the rathole. We would rather pay teachers jack and tell them take or leave it and then turn around and pay Godlman Sachs billions in tax breaks.
You people are gonna get what you deserve when your ignorant kids start stealing your social security checks.
Chris commented:
Do teacher’s not realize that their salaries are public records? There are so many teachers that make over 100k, that it’s ridiculous.
I went to a public high school in New Jersey, and all but 2 of my teachers made under 100,000 per year (although in their defense, a lot of times the salaries get bumped up because they do other things, like coaching a varsity sport, etc..). And from what I know, my township was not that different from other townships.
Then, when you factor in their benefits, the fact that they work 9 months a year, and that they have pretty good job security, I do not understand how teachers can ever complain.
So, it’s hard to feel bad for teachers. And, like Gov. Christie said, if they dont like it, they can quit. Although, they will never quit because every one of them know how good of a gig they have.
Right Wing Extreme commented:
Right on Gov. Christie.
