Oh my.
Democratic Senatorial Candidate Richard Blumenthal held a presser today after it was discovered that he lied about serving in Vietnam. (He also lied about being captain of the Harvard Swim Team.) So, Blumenthal went before the press along with some former military men and supporters. It was a great show. Maybe tomorrow the swim team will join him on stage?
Unfortunately, one of the democratic supporters on stage with him lied about his military service, too.
Free Republic reported–
Blumenthal’s military buddy on stage is William Joseph Trumpower, aka Elliott Storm, a POW HALL OF SHAME
Here’s a photo:

The POW HALL OF SHAME winner, William Joseph Trumpower, is second from the right.
POW Network.org reported on Trumpower earlier:
WILLIAM JOSEPH TRUMPOWER
aka Elliott Storm
* CLAIMING BRONZE STAR w/VALOR device.
* Claims 2nd Lt, Claims
* Wears 3 Purple Hearts, 2 Bronze Stars w/V.
The jacket in EARLIER pictures boasted 8 ribbons.
This NEW pic has more and includes V device on Bronze Star and 2nd Lt bars..
* Claims he worked with Ollie North.
The New Haven Independent reported that Blumenthal called supporter Storm who helped him out today.
Elliott Storm is a Blumenthal supporter. The campaign called him and asked him to show up; he called up his friends in the “Vet Pack” to join him, friends who, like him, travel around the country talking about ex-soldiers who contend with post traumatic stress syndrome.
Why is this not surprising?

Mark Levin believes the NY Times released the story now to mitigate the damage it could have caused if it had run right before the general election. It gives Blementhal and the Dems time to let it blow over and lessen voter disgust and outrage that could swing the election if it was fresh on voters’s minds as they entered the voting booth in November.

rabidfox, read my post #16 for a slightly different angle. The Dems seldom throw anyone under the bus if there is a chance of keeping a Dem seat. Even going to jail doesn’t stop them. They circle the wagons and stonewall investigations. Arlen Sphincter isn’t even an exception to the rule; he just was no longer viable and had become a liability to them, so they cut their losses regarding seniority and went with the younger anti-war lib, but they still went with a lib. They do practice political euthanasia on the worn out ones, as in Sphincter’s case.

And remember, Hitler went to war freely. He dodged the draft in Austria, went to Munich, and when the war started, he volunteered at once.
When it comes to military service, frankly, I take Hitler over all those wannabe elites. Hitler at least had the balls to actually fight.
And yeah, the memory of the trenches certainly shaped the way he waged war later.
jakee308 commented:
You may have noticed that most veterans (with the exception of some politicians) don’t spend a lot of time bringing up their military service.
If it does come up, they are usually self-deprecating about their service and mostly praise others’ current or past service.
Even those politicians that are known to be Veterans don’t say much about their service unless prompted and the subject is topical to the situation at hand.
This is mostly because they feel HONORED to have served and are HUMBLED by the sacrifices and valor of others they served with or know of and consider their service to have been THEIR DUTY as citizens and not worthy of, to them, excessive praise. (This is similar to those who have acted heroically to save other’s lives; they shrug off the label of ‘Hero’ and most always say they just did what anyone else would have in the circumstances)
Even the most egregious of self promoting politician, if their service was real, will adhere to the above template. Only those who feel that they failed to do THEIR DUTY and feel that they are or that their service was INADEQUATE, compared to others, will feel the need to embellish their deeds. Mostly to shroud themselves with the unearned and undeserved aura of HONOR AND VALOR that they believe they are/were unable to exhibit during their time of service.
Curiously these types are mostly Democrats and those that are actually ashamed of their service or America.

Today, when it serves their political interests, they wear military pins and medals, and claim they served valiently in Vietnam.
And YES, it is a crime to wear any military medals or other insignia that you haven’t been officially awarded.
Don’t expect any prosecutions to happen for the simple reason that they’re all card-carrying members of the Democrat Party and thus have complete immunity from this kind of stuff.

What Blumenthal has done (repeatedly) goes far beyond what has been reported. It calls into question his entire career, as well as his ethics. And to refute his most recent statements even further, it DOES impugn his service record.
Valerie commented:
Guys,
This is the New York Times story http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/18/nyregion/18blumenthal.html
“that blew the lid off his [Blumenthal's] lies” according to a Jonathan Tobin article http://www.commentarymagazine.com/blogs/index.php/tobin/296466 at Commentary.
In brief, Blumenthal served in the military during the Vietnam War, but was never stationed in Vietnam.
However, various newspapers have misquoted him or added to his record all on their own. Both the NYT and the Commentary articles seem to pretend that Mr. Blumenthal is responsible for correcting factual inaccuracies in articles over which he has no control.
I have a real problem with the attitude expressed in both articles, because I have been involved in efforts to get factual misinformation in newspaper articles corrected, most recently during the brouhaha over the Arizona immigration law.
In fact, I just responded to a snotty email from one Ruben Navarette after presenting him with the links so that he could read the text of the Arizona law, along with an explanation of its contents that is clearer than anything he’s written so far.
Neither the NYT, Commentary or the San Diego Union-Tribune have the right to print a pack of lies, and then demand that anybody, ordinary citizens or public figures, be responsible for challenging them and correcting them. They’re supposed to do their fact-checking before they print.
Today I take no position on Mr. Blumenthal’s political ideas. But the evidence that he has lied about his service is not in these articles.

That may well be true. I’m just saying that calling Blumenthal a liar on the basis of what’s in these articles is a bit much. And that could be a problem, too.
What if he really did lie, and the real lie got edited out of the article. What then? Would a careful person reading the article then conclude that the whole thing was just a political kerfluffel over nothing?

I am a Vietnam Era Veteran. I served in the military as a seven year volunteer. Starting in 1957 and serving until 1964, when I found out, that I was scheduled to be sent to Vietnam three months after I would have re-enlisted. I had already spent two years, one in Morocco and one in Korea.
My daughter went from a basket to a walker and talker by the time I got home from the second remote tour. And, in less than a year, I would be gone again. Me, I was selfish, I pulled the plug.
But, I am legally, a Vietnam Era Veteran, I am not a Vietnam, in country, Veteran. I was not drafted, I was just one in a long line of family members who volunteered without being drafted. My son was the seventh in line, when he joined the Marines.
I am not sorry that I, personally, was not involved in a shooting war. However, I am getting a bit tired of in-country Veterans and especially, those who beat the draft, constant debate on who is a Vietnam Veteran or a World War Two Veteran, or Korea Veteran or even us who were especiall, COLD WAR Veterans.
Many of them, served between the end of the Korea War Era and the Vietname Era and as far as the American Legion and VFW are concerned. Those Cold War Warriors are not elgible to belong to those organizations.
Some of us were not shot at, some of us were and if those who were shot at, did not attempt to declare themselves special. Perhaps, those who were not shot at, but served as the others did, this country, would not feel they had to make themselves lairs, to have their country recognize them.
After seven years, I got a double Good Conduct Medal and a Korea Service Medal and look at what those who serve today can wear. A chestfull of color and if those at the hightest command today have their wish, one will soon be given to the dead who failed to shoot first. It will not be the Purple Heart, it will be for taking a shot, when you should have shot first.
In ending this long message, that will most likely not be posted, if I had known where we were going. My service and my son’s service to the country, would have been replaced by the same selfish actions of those who are tearing this country apart. Othewise, “Let the other suckers serve, while we get all we can without risking our lives!”
Apparently, they have won and unless something drastic changes, soon we will be a collection of fifty States, as screwed up as Europe. Where they forgot one thing in their great advance to take over the world. Ask a person from the USA where they are from, when you are overseas and most will first say, the USA, then follow with their State. Ask a European and they will answer, first with their country and then perhaps, Europe.
Soon, those in charge of the USA at this time, will have us saying, I am from Ohio first, then say, it is one of the small countries in the USA combination.

“Valerie, again and again, for more than 30 YEARS, he HIMSELF has been CLAIMING he served IN Vietnam (“When I was in Vietnam,….”).”
Then, neither article says enough. Again, if the articles leave out pertinent facts, (such as that he has been claiming he served in Vietnam repeatedly for years), that’s a problem, because both of them fail to convey much.
Take a look again at the NYT article. It says bits of quotes and information showed up in news articles, and he failed to correct them. That’s all it says. If there are, for example, a slew of video clips showing him saying those exact things, or press releases from his office, or published speeches he has made, you wouldn’t know it from the NYT article.

Does anyone know Jack Bauer’s phone number? We need him to call CTU to do facial recognition on all those fools standing next to Blumenthal at his press conference. Chances are they’re all phonies too.
Opaobie commented:
Valerie, the obvious answer is that the Dems knew Blumenthal’s secret would come out eventually now that he is running for U.S. Senate. In Connecticut, nobody dug, and nobody had any reason to question. The story came out now to lessen the damage and to try to make it a two or three day story that wouldn’t come up again in November. The New York Slimes willingly aided in the task, although there were probably tears in the newsroom at having to do anything that might hurt a Liberal. It might work. According to the Washington Post, it did work.
…even some of the diehard Dems posting comments at the WashPost are disgusted, though, so it still just may sink him.
Can any veteran now remain a member of so corrupt a party as today’s Democratic Party? They need to take back the party or put it out of its misery at the next election…and Blumenthal still hasn’t won anything yet. November will tell a lot about the character of the voters of Connecticut. Unfortunately, running a World Wrestling Entertainment “impresario” (as Ann Coulter puts it) against him says a lot about the hapless GOP. May Blumenthal suffer the same fate as Benedict Arlen
SphincterSpecter.…and thanks for the kind words to those who enjoyed my posts.

So many of the fake Vets also like to talk about the hate and rejection they ‘experienced’ after they ‘returned from’Nam’ – when, in fact, they never ventured beyond the shores of the USA. The worst though, are the mongrels – and there have been a few – who speak, with great emotion, about the ‘attrocities’ they were involved in during their mythical stints in Vietnam.
