Arizona is looking more and more appealing every day. If they don’t watch it all of those America-hating leftists are going to follow the illegal immigrants and flee the Grand Canyon State. That would be horrible.
The Arizona legislature just passed a bill that will ban radical ethnic studies programs.
FOX News reported, via Free Republic:
After making national headlines for a new law on illegal immigrants, the Arizona Legislature sent Gov. Jan Brewer a bill Thursday that would ban ethnic studies programs in the state that critics say currently advocate separatism and racial preferences.
After making national headlines for a new law on illegal immigrants, the Arizona Legislature passed a bill Thursday that would ban ethnic studies programs in the state that critics say currently advocate separatism and racial preferences.
The bill, which passed 32-26 in the state House, had been approved by the Senate a day earlier. It now goes to Gov. Jan Brewer for her signature.
The new bill would make it illegal for a school district to teach any courses that promote the overthrow of the U.S. government, promote resentment of a particular race or class of people, are designed primarily for students of a particular ethnic group or “advocate ethnic solidarity instead of the treatment of pupils as individuals.”
The bill stipulates that courses can continue to be taught for Native American pupils in compliance with federal law and does not prohibit English as a second language classes. It also does not prohibit the teaching of the Holocaust or other cases of genocide.
Schools that fail to abide by the law would have state funds withheld.

This is nothing less than banning the teaching of race prejudice in public schools. Too bad Illinois and Baltimore can’t do that for churches.

I still wonder what those “Native American” pupils are supposed to be.
The mixture of the second, third and fourth immigration wave into the American continent. That’s how things are. The only “Native Americans”, or “First People”, have been wiped out by nature a long time ago. Clovis Culture. Nature said “up yours” and destroyed them.
Today’s “Native Americans” have roots in Asia, South Pacific AND Europe, cause that’s where their ancestors came from.
Native American, to me, is every man and woman born over there.
This ethnicity-based, politically correct Newspeak is nothing else but stupid and fascist, catering to racist dreams of radicals.

When defiant people, of any background, from any country, come to America and wave flags of their homeland, talk about taking back some part of America or taking over America – this is a sad manefestation of people who’s actions are based upon their deficiencies vs their proficiencies.
Thank Goid someone has finally figured out that that catering to these defiant, deficient people is wrong – THANK YOU!

That’s just so UN-AMERICAN! How do we raise the new generation of progressives without that sort of instruction?

If you are Hispanic, love America and truly desire to become part of her (i.e., assimilate) — like so many legal immigrants before you — you will discover us to be a most generous people. The American people are so much better than governments would have you believe — including our own.
But if you are Hispanic, hate America and advocate separatism (i.e., refuse to assimilate) — like so many illegal immigrants/invaders before you — you will discover that there are limits to our generosity — and patience. And before you misbehave… take a good look at your own country’s immigration laws!

To anyone considering moving or vacationing here.
COME ON DOWN!! We have awesome weather about 8 out of 12 months. Winter is so mild in the valley. Basically it’s cold on Christmas Day through New Year’s. Hot as hell in the summer, by August you’ll be melting but the rest of the year is great. The landscape is very diverse. Flat, sparse desert in the south, and pine trees, snow, and beautiful country in the north. If you’re curious, pick up an Arizona Highways magazine, (no I don’t work for them in any capacity), and take a look for yourself. It’s a wonderful state with a growing culinary selection, (it used to be Mexican food was the only other option to meat an potatoes). We have great restaurants of all flavors, solid NBA, NFL, NHL, MBL teams. Plenty of nightlife and clean, wide freeways. We love to have visitors. If you are a hard worker, you will definately find a place in our beautiful state to call home. For the people that think we are a bunch of racists, go jump in the lake. We have a rich heritage of Mexican, Asian, and European cultures but somehow, we make it work because we love this state. We are united not by color or background, but by the simple wish to enjoy the fruits of our labors and live in a society that abides by the rule of law. Please come, and help us make this state even better.

The AZ Superintendent of Schools has had a running battle for over 2 years with these PC lib racists. TUSD is Arizona’s largest school district.
wanumba commented:
Great news. But, about AZ schools – we moved here two years ago and the schools are as piss-poor as they were forty years ago. BUT, Phoenix has more private school options than the hinterlands. If that isn’t a problem, it’s a spectacularly beautiful state, desert to high plateau, to forest mountain living. Just pick the kind of weather one likes and there’s a town that has it.
Made a comment about this the other day to someone, to put the “racist” state hysteria in perspective : the local after work basketball tournament league is by order of % of players, Native Indian,White and Black, and plays at one of the local Reservation gyms. Each team is very mixed, plus ages from 18 to -looks like 60 – and those 60 year olds know how to “swoosh” it from mid-court. Families, girlfriends, kids, all sitting around watching, socializing. This in serious “redneckville.” The place to be is Monday and Wednesdays playing basketball at the Reservation.
In contrast, nearby, at the Parks and Rec field, is the after work soccer league. 100% Hispanic, Mexican. There are zero locals playing on ANY of the teams that show up.
While one of our family, and we’re pretty new, has already been invited to play basketball, we see no way anyone even wandering by the soccer field would be invited to join in – only Hispanics. It’s noticeable in its closedness, and we’ve been observing the dynamics of it for a while now, since they play right after our kids’ school team finishes. Everyone we’ve seen is very polite and innocuous, so that’s not the problem, they just can’t be open. They’re ilegal.
Aside from language, which isn’t such a bigga deal when playing a game – teams will not care about not speaking the lingo if one can PLAY to win – if there’s an extremely mixed all volunteer adult basketball league right down the street, it’s NOT “race” that’s the issue, the big divider here is ILLEGALITY.
Illegals want to do all the normal stuff, like after work sports leagues, but because so many are illegal, they cannot mix with the local community as legals can, for fear of being exposed to the law enforcement. So, they operate in a closed social circuit.
It’s one of the sad results of illegality, unable to truly integrate into the local community. Legal immigrants have no fear, they have done the necessary and can be easily accepted into the local communities. The Left has encouraged dodging the system, but the dodge of immigration law actually puts illegals into a corner they can’t get out of, socially and legally.
Those who promoted this have not done illegals any good deed whatsoever.

FYI: Chicagoboyz has a superb article about The Divisive Left. Highly recommended:
“Leftists induce everyone to see themselves as personally continually under threat from their fellow citizens. They induce everyone to believe that everyone else in society will cheat them or otherwise treat them unfairly. They induce everyone to think of themselves as individuals and groups constantly under siege and attack by virtually everyone else in America.
For an example of this one need look no further than the President’s own rhetoric. Every time he speaks about almost any issue, he pushes the implicit view that one group of Americans is cheating or attacking another group and that only people like himself can save them.”

Can someone explain this wording:
‘The bill stipulates … It also does not prohibit the teaching of the Holocaust or other cases of genocide.’
If the bill ‘doesn’t prohibit’ XWZ, doesn’t that indicate that it just doesn’t say any thing about XYZ? So why would the reporter even mention it?
For example, suppose you read: ‘Governor Jones of Rhode Island signed an education bill. It doesn’t prohibit visitors from Hawaii from shopping at Walmart on Fridays’. That would indicate the reporter had something on his mind, wouldn’t it?
Confused, Peter Warner.
Valerie commented:
Peter,
That language in the bill is typical where the writers of the law already know that somebody is going to try to willfully misinterpret the law.
It is much like the portions of the new Arizona immigration law that recite that a driver’s license is presumed proof of legal residence and that reasonable suspicion cannot be based solely on a person’s appearance. It so happens that both of these latter provisions are already part of the applicable case law: they were included precisely because the drafters knew these objections would be raised.
