RINO Lindsey Graham wrote a charged letter on Saturday that he could not support the cap-n-tax bill that will cause energy prices to skyrocket now that Obama and the democrats want to move ahead with their amnesty bill.
The legislation will not be introduced on Monday as planned.
Figure that one out?
The New York Times reported:

In a move that may derail a comprehensive climate change and energy bill in the Senate, one of the measure’s central architects, Senator Lindsey Graham, has issued an angry protest over what he says are Democratic plans to give priority to a debate over immigration policy.

Mr. Graham, Republican of South Carolina, said in a sharply worded letter on Saturday that he would no longer participate in negotiations on the energy bill, throwing its already cloudy prospects deeper into doubt. He had been working for months with Senators John Kerry, Democrat of Massachusetts, and Joseph I. Lieberman, independent of Connecticut, on the a legislation, which they were scheduled to announce with considerable fanfare on Monday morning. That announcement has been indefinitely postponed.

In his letter to his two colleagues, Mr. Graham said that he was troubled by reports that the Senate Democratic leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, and the White House were planning to take up an immigration measure before the energy bill. Mr. Graham has worked with Democrats in the past on immigration matters and was expected to be an important bridge to Republicans on that issue, as well as on energy.

Mr. Graham said that any Senate debate on the highly charged subject of illegal immigration would make it impossible to deal with the difficult issues involved in national energy and global warming policy.

He said in his letter that energy must come first and that Democrats appeared to be rushing to take up immigration because of rising anti-immigrant sentiment, including a harsh new measure signed into law in Arizona on Friday.

“Moving forward on immigration — in this hurried, panicked manner — is nothing more than a cynical political ploy,” Mr. Graham said. “I know from my own personal experience the tremendous amounts of time, energy and effort that must be devoted to this issue to make even limited progress.”

The Politico reported today that the cap-n-tax bill will not likely come up this year.

More… Senator Lieberman released a statement a few hours ago. The senators will not introduce the legislation Monday as planned:

“I want to thank Senator Graham for his contribution to writing the American Power Act and I regret that allegations of partisan politics will prevent us from introducing the bill on Monday as planned,’‘ Lieberman said.

“I know from all of our work over the past year that Senator Graham shares our commitment to this bill that will create American jobs, move us closer to energy independence, and reduce pollution. I look forward to Senator Graham rejoining our efforts after we work through the concerns that are preventing us from advancing a cause the three of us believe in so deeply.

  1. Republicans need to stay united against this regime. We win…….they don’t. Thank you

  2. We need to remain vigilant. A few weeks ago, Obama said health care was dead, and he was shifting his attention to jobs. A month later, we have a health care fiasco, and no jobs. You can’t trust a damn thing these people say. We need to keep the heat on these traitors and drive them into the wall in November …

  3. Graham has to go. Retire this douchebag before he does more damage

  4. Nothing reassuring about any of this. The fact these knuckleheads have been beavering away at something that shouldn’t have been even suggested in the first place is teeth-grinding, and all these bills have been like horror-movie bathtub scenes, lunging out of the depths just when everyone had been lulled into thinking they were dead.

  5. Mainstream media is talking about oil leaking off the coast of Louisiana where the oil rig sunk. That spillage may be the real cause of taking the energy bill off the table… Graham has certainly gotten contact from voters about how against his plans they are…
    .

  6. So, isn’t it interesting that for every massive bill the Dems push these days, there’s usually some one “hold-out” (i.e., Ben Nelson with health care, Sen. Collins with TARP, etc.) who finally act one way or the other. Is this a strategy in Saul Alinsky’s methods?

  7. Up late Jim, watching the wire I see, ha… great scoop!

Linked at RR… could this be the end of Obama’s legislative momentum…?

You have GOT to see this:

    it is simply hilarious!!!!!

    Best regards, Peter Warner.

  9. There was an article in the news about the spotting of a “rare” White Rhino in Sumatra.
Well, maybe they’re rare in Sumatra but not in America.

  10. The arrogant weasel’s good with both bills. He’s just pissed about the order they’re brought forward.

If the GOP had real leaders someone would call this jerk out for what he is.

  11. Graham is a communitst. He says he won’t introduce the bill he is trying to write because, essentially, the timing has been negatively affected by the immigration debate. So, in other words, he wants to screw the U.S. with an anti-business energy bill and he is willing to probably do the same with immigration proposals, but he sees it as too much of a challenge to do both at the same time. Ya, that’s very reassuring.

  12. Well, Lindsey will soon suffer the fate of Mr. Massa at Pelosi and Reid’s hands. They will let his gay scandal out. Oh don’t poo poo me. Google gay lead Republicans some names that show up might surprise you like say McConnell. Hillbuzz has all the scoop plus the site that knew about Larry Craig and Foley before we did. These RINOs at the top are all light in the loafers and I could care less EXCEPT that they are available for blackmail. Lindsey, obviously, can’t just “come out” to applause and braveness talk from both the left and the right. He must have proclivities that include underage boys or something. Remember that saying “politicians can’t be caught with a dead girl or a live boy.” Sad but true the state of Washington D.C. these days. Can’t forget that Hillary dug up all the FBI files and Obama is using them. Bizarre, Obama has so many secrets locked up in his past and our dear RINOs have secrets too. I say clean them out with Chlorox and Sunshine. Remember November – donate DIRECTLY – to true conservative candidates and bypass the RNC and the NRSC.

  13. Graham finaly read the tea leaves and determined that cap and tax was his path to rejection in his next election. Bailing this weekend was just putting distance between himself and Cap and Tax and does not hinder his ability to sort out the right side of the issues and adabt them. He is not a leader but a follower of polls. He has no core values.

  14. But then another RINO changes HER mind about financial regulation bill giving banks permanent bailouts, freaking SNOWE. THese people are AWFUL!!!!

  15. That this was not an instant AHA moment and an easy call means Lindsey must go. We need principled conservative leaders not “which way is the wind blowing today”. vote em out.
    powder is dry

  16. Piss poor reason for Graham to stop work on his bill but for Obama to alienate Graham on both climate and immigration in one swoop…

Hah, I love it! I love Obama’s “leadership”.

  17. Outing him worked!

  18. Sunshine is the best disinfectant.

There are a few more pretty rocks to be turned over.

  19. Write your Senators and tell them to rein in Graham, he just does what the Dems do, both know we are against Illegal Immigration and giving them the $$$…..and he knows we want access to our resources that actually power something!

  20. Yep, so Olympia Snow is now checking out what she can get for jumping the fence.

  21. The Dems need to get “immigration reform” passed first so they have plenty of new voters for the November elections. If it passes, look for a huge GOTV effort funded by unspent stimulus funds. See also John Fund’s article in Saturday’s WSJ: http://tinyurl.com/2bfw6s2

  22. Guy and wanumba, I wish I could remember the link, but there was a telling quote from Axelrod about how they got healthcare through, which illustrates the true revolutionary mentality of Zero and this WH.

Axelrod mused that once Scott Brown was elected, everyone heaved a collective sigh of relief. Most law-abiding folks thought this signaled the end of the debate — well, to most parties it would.

The Axe said they took this opportunity of everyone’s guard down as their window of opportunity, and voila! Deathcare.

  23. Hugh Hewitt’s interesting take Graham’s moves:

..’For reasons explained here, John McCain is very happy that Lindsey Graham has abandoned his sponsorship of cap-and-tax 3.0.

…Now if all Republican senators stay together in refusing to be drawn into a debate or negotiations over immigration reform, the focus of the country can remain where it ought to be: On the extraordinary mistake that is Obamacare and on the spiraling spending that threatens to give the country a fiscal stroke:’

  24. vote them all out!
    Graham, Lieberman, Kerry

  25. OT/ but related..Green Job Scandal Coming:
…Icecap is reporting that there is going to be a major ethics scandal breaking on Monday. Apparently someone in the Obama administration has a major conflict of interest regarding green jobs and the stimulus. There are links to Al Gore it seems’:
    http://icecap.us/index.php

(I’m sure we won’t be reading, seeing or hearing about it from MSM).

  26. Graham is just having a snit. He’ll be back at it shortly.

  27. Graham’s stance on this bill was hurting his friend and co-conspirator John McCain. He put the bill on hold till John is re-elected, and then they both will work on it.
We here in Arizona may have something to say about that!

  28. Oh?! Did Mizz Lindsey grow a pair, and come out! Good! Now he can stop his political gadfly shenanigans and do the job he was elected to do. The jerk.

  29. Graham apparently got double-crossed by Obama. He had agreed to work on the cap-’n'-tax boondoggle (which he has, sadly, supported in the past) with Democrats now, allowing them to claim “bipartisan support” in a grand farce, and divide the conservative opposition between repealing ObamaCare and cap-’n'-tax, not to mention getting more socialism passed before next January, and then on immigration after the elections so the issue didn’t damage McCain.

Now he finds that laying down with dogs leaves him with fleas – who knew?

The Democrats know they cannot get the black or youth turnout of 2008 without Obama on the ticket (they will find out the youth enthusiasm is gone by 2012, of course the blacks only vote on race, as evidenced by their 96% approval of Obama), so they made the strategic decision to try to get Hispanics motivated either to support them or vote against Republicans, depending on the debate on immigration and the result. They weren’t going to win ANY votes with cap-’n'-tax, so it makes political sense to seek help where you might find some.

Graham is all in a snit now, but they will stroke him enough to get his support back for both before it is over with, I expect.

  30. I guess the dims reneged on the deal they made with Graham re “I will vote for cap and tax if you will pass my immigration bill I haven’t finished writing.” Shake hands with the devil and you get shafted in the back.

  31. Just saying

    Coast Guard says no leaks.
