On Friday April 9, 2010, GOP official Allee Bautsch and her boyfriend Joe Brown attended a Republican dinner at Brennan’s restaurant in New Orleans. When they left this event they were followed from the restaurant by a group of five white men who hurled insults at them calling Allee a “little blond bitch” and calling Joe a “f**king f*ggot.” They brutally beat and stomped on the young Republican couple just blocks from the restaurant.

Allee Bautsch suffered a broken leg from the beatdown outside to the SRLC dinner at Brennan’s Restaurant in New Orleans. She had her leg operated on over the weekend and it will take her months to recover. Her boyfriend Joe Brown suffered a broken nose, a broken jaw, and a concussion. They were attacked after leaving the Southern Republican Leadership Conference dinner at Brennan’s Restaurant.

On Saturday, Allee Bautsch’s mother spoke out about the vicious attack. She joined Allee’s friend and said the attackers were leftist protesters.
Yahoo reported:
Allee Bautsch’s mother, Della Berning, has now joined a friend of Bautsch’s in telling Yahoo! News that, contrary to what Brown initially told police, Bautsch and Brown do believe that the attackers were a group of political protesters who followed them after they left the event. Their recollection is not conclusive, of course, and they admit to having no knowledge of the attackers’ underlying motivations.
According to Berning, Bautsch and Brown are recovering from their injuries and the trauma of the attack, and so are not speaking directly to the media. However, the couple authorized her to come forward with their account of the attack. Berning told Yahoo! News that she reconfirmed with her daughter each detail of the account she offered via email and phone.
New Orleans, Louisiana police initially dismissed the savage attack on GOP official Allee Bautsch and her boyfriend Joe Brown in the French Quarter. They reported it as a medical call and did not even interview the couple about the brutal beating until Monday.
NOLA.com reported:
When news of last weekend’s assault of Republican campaign fundraiser Allee Bautsch and her boyfriend broke on Monday, police logs detailing crimes and complaints reported in the French Quarter that night did not list the attack on the pair.
That’s because the April 9 incident was first labeled a medical call, which meant no police report needed to be written. Indeed, according to the initial report released Friday by New Orleans police, it wasn’t until Monday that a detective was assigned to investigate the incident — in which Bautsch broke her leg and her boyfriend, Joseph Brown, broke his jaw.
Monday was also the day news reports and blogs began chattering about the attack, sometimes laden with the juicy possibility the attackers were anti-Republican protesters.
The initial incident report does not resolve the question of whether Bautsch and Brown were attacked by protesters, who had picketed the restaurant they were in earlier that night.
But the sequence of the NOPD’s response to an attack that left Bautsch with a broken leg and Brown with a fractured jaw and nose, raises questions about why the department didn’t deal with the incident as an assault from the get-go. Subsequent police statements and reports about the incident note that officers did respond to the scene, calling an ambulance to take Bautsch and Brown to the hospital.
NOPD spokesman Bob Young said the explanation is simple: The responding officer didn’t know the extent of the couple’s injuries. That officer knew the couple needed help and was told that Brown had been in a fight, but concentrated on getting them medical assistance, he said.
If the officer had known how badly they were hurt, the case would have been reclassified immediately as some kind of battery, Young said.
The Hayride added this on the politically motivated attack on the young Republican couple leaving a GOP dinner.
Most conservative websites and blogs are avoiding this topic like the plague. Why? Because they are afraid. Liberals scream “racism” without the slightest shred of evidence and the mainstream media scream with them, but conservatives are afraid to speak the truth even when faced with clear and convincing evidence. They are cowards.
This is not a court of law and the Iron Rail Gang isn’t on trial (yet), but the conservative media have acted as though Iron Rail must be convicted beyond a reasonable doubt before they can say a word on the topic. It’s no coincidence that the only major conservative media outlet to have accurately covered the story belongs to Andrew Breitbart, because he actually has some guts. The rest of the conservative media still seem to be afraid that the MSM is going to say something bad about them.
One more thing… The anarchists and leftists outside the SLRC event that night had posted an ominous warning on their website before the GOP officials were attacked.
The Hayride reported:
…There was also an eight-page brochure the group put together that did not appear on the Facebook event page for the protest (since removed – there were 209 people who had RSVP’ed for the event and from that roster we found Mauch and Dubinsky), and that brochure was much more ominous. It listed several “Points of Unity,” among them being:
- The SRLC is not welcome in NOLA without a fuss
- Recognize healthcare as a basic human right
- Oppose police oppression, the prison-industrial complex, and the dominant culture of militarism
- Recognize the need for active resistance to confront all forms of oppression, respecting a diversity of tacticsThe brochure also contained a map of the five hotels at which SRLC delegates were primarily staying, which is extremely disturbing.

Speaking as a volunteer EMT-B, this is probably a bigger screw-up on the part of dispatch and the first EMTs on-scene. Honestly, the instant I hear “we got beat up,” my first thought is, “where’s the nearest cop?” Depending on the county and EMT instructor, your training may actually tell you to disengage at that point and retreat until the scene has been secured.
The fact that PD was not called for assistance when the EMTs finished taking their history is troublesome.
Opaobie commented:
Is the individual standing over them a Police Officer? If so, did he not take statements or make the observation that an attack had taken place? Can’t the NO EMT folks walk and chew gum…treat the victims AND report that an assault has taken place and request Police assistance? This is more than bizarre, and it doesn’t pass the smell test. It’s either a cover up or extremely poor Police work…or both.
Tom63010 commented:
I guess in New Orleans it’s OK to be a little assaulted but if you are a lot assaulted then they file a Police Reports that you been assaulted.
With that line of reasoning perhaps New Orleans is the only place in the world where you can be a little pregnant?
Robert commented:
This whole story stinks from the street where it occurred past the New Orleans Police Department all the way to the governor’s office.
Now we’re supposed to believe that 2 people can be down in the street with injuries and it’s treated as a “medical call” with presumably no related crime? One has a broken leg, and according to a later report cited in this same article said so even during the assault.
Yet the NOPD has some flack come up with an excuse:
NOPD spokesman Bob Young said the explanation is simple: The responding officer didn’t know the extent of the couple’s injuries. That officer knew the couple needed help and was told that Brown had been in a fight, but concentrated on getting them medical assistance, he said.
Sure, it’s simple. Brown was in a fight and his companion is laying in the gutter with a broken leg. No crime here, nothing to see, move along.
If this is just a “fight” then maybe the Republican National Convention should indeed reconsider the location for their venue.
The governor’s people get brutally assaulted and he leaves everything up to the local law enforcement? Doesn’t even assign somebody to ride herd on the affair?
Robert commented:

As the commenters at the NOLA.com website noted, they didn’t “break” anything, they suffered these injuries as the result of being attacked.

The New Orleans Police were unable to take a statement at the time or write up a report that night because there was a power outage two blocks over at the Walmart and they were to busy looting it with the rest of the New Orleans population.

Now that the victims have issued their statement there can be no doubt that this is a truly heinous crime of political intimidation by Democrats and other Leftists. This nice young couple was just working hard for a Governor and the ideas that they believe in at SRLC, and the Democrats and other Leftists beat them so severely that their surgeons estimate a three month recovery.

Ask yourself: Can you ever again see any Democrat or other Leftist public figure that has not owned that their own broke Allee and Joe’s bones, condemned the attackers and their cohorts, and apologized without also seeing these pictures in your mind and thinking that they are just a little complicit?
Also ask yourself: Can anyone that continues to deny that this savage crime occurred or the political nature of it be far removed in character from those who committed it?

When seconds count the cops will be there in minutes. Get it?! We have rules for a polite society. When the rules suddenly do not apply. What are you going to do? Call 911 and hope the rapist, murderer, hit and run etc is survivable? How bout you take charge of your own security and quit wanting eveyone else to protect you. Grow up, live in the real world. The tax paying classes are being assaulted on all fronts, from the members of the entitlement classes and from our own governments who encourage this type of behavior.
When sanity returns back to our country don’t expect it to be civil. As the entitlement classes and those who lead them will see the gravy train coming to a stop, more assaults of this nature will occur.
Arm yourselves, be proficient in the use of your weapon, prepeare for the worse but expect the best. We are just beginning to experience the hatred from those who want to destroy America from within.

How sensible to qualify the lack of information on motivation. Too bad this isn’t typical. Had the victims been black or gay, it would be reported automatically as a “hate” crime. No need for the press to worry about “underlying motivations.” Even had the attackers been wearing SEIU t-shirts, I’m sure it would be reported as just a random attack.

I’m a recently retired police detective so I speak from experience. Here is a couple of facts you need to know.
1. Depending on the attitude of the city, the prosecutors and the police, a fight can be considered something so common it doesn’t rise to the level of an investigation. The officer not wanting to take a report or not caring is simply not that unusual. It’s wrong, but it is reality.
2. To see if this was a motivated attack, a review of any similar attacks in the same area in the past would be warranted. If roving gangs were beating the crap out of late night bar hoppers every night then the attack may be just that, an attack. People who don’t know New Orleans and the police there don’t understand that in certain areas it is only one small step above a third world nation. Katrina only ripped the cover off the mess, it didn’t create it. (If that were not true, then all the towns along the Mississippi border would have had hundreds of killings and police misconduct.)
3. Jo talks about the police as tools for Obama. That in general is not true. Most of the police at the local level are more on your side than you know. The feds on the other hand get a little dicey. They have recruited a lot of local PD and ex-military in the last ten years. I know for a fact, many of those are closet constitutionalists.
However, Jo is right about one thing. There will always be a certain percentage of police at all levels who are Kool-aid drinkers and will follow orders blindly. Telling them apart from the good guys will be almost impossible and may be done only after they act on something.
Recently, I sent a long post to a person trying to explain to them when I saw the light as a cop. When I decided my first duty to the citizens of my city was “First do no harm.”
It happened in 1993. in Texas at a compound now famously known as Waco. I was a newly minted detective in my department and I and other officers watched with horror as federal authorities, under the guise of enforcing the law, began what can only be described as a downward spiral into madness. Hundreds of officers, including some with good consciences, acted as though they were overcome with a collective insanity. We all know the outcome and it and the hearings following the incident were one of the motivations for my novel “REVOLT” (www.revoltthebook.com).
When i wrote the novel I asked myself, if the feds were capable of isolating, demonizing and then destroying a group of people like they did, what stops them from doing it on a bigger scale? The siege of the town in the book was developed out of that question. What stops them? You? Me? The media? When the fire burned itself out and the Davidians were all dead many of my fellow officers said, “Good. They deserved it for killing those agents.” I asked them “What crime did those women and children commit that justified law enforcement gassing them and allowing them to burn to death?” Only then did I see the light go on in those other officer’s eyes.
Simply put, are there agents and police officers capable of overreacting or maybe acting in an abusive way? Absolutely. But as bad as that event was, what bothered me the most and what made me realize the novel could one day become a history text, was how the people in government reacted. Remember many of the same people in power back then are in power now. Chuck Schumer, Emanuel, Barney and the rest. It appeared to me during the hearings that they acted as though the families of the victims had no right to question the government. It was scary. Almost as scary as watching Janet Reno justify the use of military tanks at the scene by comparing them to “super rent-a-cars”, while laughing out loud.
I suggest for those of you who still don’t understand the level of power and the potential for abuse the government possesses to take a trip to YOUTUBE and look up “Waco Rules of Engagement.” Watch the documentary and pay attention to the aftermath. The lost evidence, the questionable testimony and like I said, the arrogant dismissive attitude of the people in power.
I often wondered if the people around the incident had known the end result would have been the deaths of babies would they have stepped up and stood between the feds and the compound demanding something else be done. At some point in the future you may find yourself with that very same choice. Where will you stand?
I was talking with a sergeant from my department about his best friend, also a sergeant. Both are closet constitutionalists and both worry about the direction of the nation. I said, “David let me ask you this. Let’s say Obama manages to pass some kind of restriction on the net or radio a la Chavez. Your buddy Kurt decides he isn’t going to pay attention and violates this law. We know its unconstitutional and wrong. But agents show up to take him away, what will you do?” David thought for a long time, struggling for an answer. He finally said, “Ray, I would probably let them take him. Much to my shame.” David has a kid, a girlfriend and a career. Those are powerful tools that government uses to keep people under their thumb.
Be careful criticizing the police. They are just like us, trying to live, trying to survive, trying to take care of their families. Judge them not on their uniforms but on their actions. But also be vigilant.
wanumba commented:
Compare the actions and comportment of the police in New York on 9/11 and the days afterwards with the actions of the New Orleans Police after Katrina.
9/11 New York was a more catastrophic event than the Katrina hurricane. More people died in NYC in a matter of minutes than the entire duration and aftermath of Katrina in New Orleans. NYPD had ZERO warning of the terror attack, NOPD had a WEEK. Instantly, NYPD lost a chunk of it’s own officers, along with firefighters and other emergency personnel, unlike NOPD with Katrina.
But NYPD was professional, tireless and NYC, bigger than New Orleans and more diverse, held together, while New Orleans Police were caught on film leisurely looting, ignoring their duty or spending their time disarming law-abiding citizens.
The difference? Mayoral leadership – YEARS of professional leadeship under Giuliani paid off in the 9/11 crisis. YEARS of cronyism, mismanagement and unprofessionalism under Mayor Nagin bore rotten fruit in a 100% predictable event.
It’s not a surprise at all that with Mayor Nagin still in charge, the NOPD is STILL not performing to levels that are expected in most other cities in the USA.
But Nagin has his cover excuse : “It’s Bush’s fault.”

……….
A “Sophie’s Choice” scenario. But she couldn’t live with her moral failure – that she’d sacrificed one child for the other – a betrayal of a child’s trust. Totalitarian regimes depend on people going for the short term over the long term.
These are times that will try men’s souls. But doing what’s RIGHT is the only comfort.
Highly recommend this film: “Weapons of the Spirit” by Pierre Sauvage. It’s a true story of the village of Le Chambon sur-Lignon a Huegonot enclave in Vichy France that totally rejected the NAZIs and the French collaboration and sheltered 5,000 Jews. That’s 5,000 Christians sheltering 5,000 Jews. Rather obvious that the actual population of the town wildly exceeded the official count.
They did what was right … and survived.
It’s not a given that those who refuse to cowtow to bad orders will be destroyed. Communists rely on “salami-slicing” to get rid of people few at a time so that the entire population doesn’t get wise at once and revolt. There were plenty of people in Germany who didn’t like what the NAZIs were doing but they were afraid, so they ducked their heads and tried to carry on with their business. It IS hard, but they carried a guilt for the rest of their lives they couldn’t escape, and because otherwise good people buckled, millions upon millions were slaughtered.
In the face of overwhelming evil and terrifying death, people will cave. It’s a fact of humanity. God never does, so only those who seek comfort and guidance in Him will have that extra courage required to go beyond that line of life and death.
It’s very very serious business, and the fact that people are for the first time considering they might be forced into profoundly moral decisions – and they just wanted to go to work and mind their own business – means it’s time to sit down and take stock: what kind of person do I want to be and how will I handle it when I everything I believe in and respect is put to the extreme challenge?
Remember, the people on those four airplanes on 9/11 were minding their own business, a perfectly normal day. Those who forced the plane down by Shanksville, PA were genuine heros. Of course they wanted to live, and they were fighting for that chance, but they also knew they didn’t want that plane to be used to murder innocent people, so they fought back.

One SMALL thing here. Anarchists(minimal govt.) are the total opposite end of the political spectrum from leftists( nanny state). This makes NO sense what so ever, that they would be protesting together. Are the authors trying to invoke images of bomb tossing immigrants from the 1920′s ?
