That’s weird.
Senator Grahamnesty-Shamnesty is walking away from both cap-n-tax and amnesty legislation?
That’s what Connie Hair is reporting at Human Events:

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has walked away from his months-long effort to saddle the taxpaying public with a new cap and trade national energy tax. Now it appears he’s also walking away from amnesty legislation.

Graham made it quite clear to leaders of his energy coalition in a letter Saturday that he thought a move to amnesty legislation was nothing but playing election year politics with an emotional issue and would kill chances of passing the energy bill.

“Moving forward on immigration — in this hurried, panicked manner — is nothing more than a cynical political ploy,” Graham said in the letter. “I know from my own personal experience the tremendous amounts of time, energy, and effort that must be devoted to this issue to make even limited progress.”

The Demcrats’ “hurried, panicked” attempt to whip illegal immigration supporters into a frenzy appears to be too much for even Graham — a longtime supporter of amnesty — to stomach.

Graham is now saying if Democrats bring up an illegal immigration bill at all this year, whether it comes first or second in priority before his energy bill, he will not support either.

“I think I have made it pretty clear that if you bring up immigration, you are breaking faith with me,” Graham said.

  1. I will believe him when his vote is recorded. hopefully he is up for election and can be replaced. You woke up just in time to get off of the train tracks but your still in the cross hairs of the electorate. Your going to pay a political price for your crimes against America.
    powder is dry.

  2. Most Excellent. Perhaps the Democrat’s useful Republican idiot has seen the light. Come back home, Lindsey!

  3. Grahamnesty is walking away because he has been absolutely scortched in the past few weeks for playing patta-cake with the D’rats. He has been hearing from us, and it has not been an awfully supportive message: stop helping the enemy or we’ll support your primary challenger in 2014. My theory is that he was looking for a golden retreat bridge and has seized on this to save face. In a related question, how does one save face when one does not possess a chin?

  4. Has Senator Graham “seen the light”? I don’t think so.
But I believe he has “felt the pressure”!

Fellow Conservatives, Keep the Pressure On!

  5. Graham is not up for election until 2014. He thought the voters would have forgotten his crimes by then but has probably figured out that will not be the case.

  6. I agree 100% with ProLifer #4.

Lindsey Graham is a RINO and swings whichever way the political wind blows.

The fact that he was even involved in more and greater spending legislation is evidence of his stupidity.

I wouldn’t trust the panty-waist as far as I could throw him left handed. (I have no left arm!)

  7. It’s called “survival instinct”- lol, we’ve all got it

And Goober knows how to read a poll-

  8. He’s gay too

  9. Why doesn’t Lindsey just go the Spector route and decide he’s ‘always been a Demodonk’?

  10. He objects for bribe money, that is all.

  11. It looks like Americans are beginning to slow the Progressives’ Agenda in Eco and Immigrant Reform. But the Progressive not about to quit (ever).

We need to educate Americans more about the Socialist that making our lives miserable — i.e., frequent White House Guest, George Soros. We also need to inform them about Jeffrey Sachs (of Goldman Sachs), who Soros recruited in the 1980′s to help him crash financial markets all around the world.

Lots of new scary facts on Soros and Sachs here: http://www.commieblaster.com/george-soros-fund/

  12. But, the racists…aren’t we gonna shut them up?

  13. I guess the “gang of one” thing wasn’t such a good idea.

  14. I guess now that he has been “outed” the Dems don’t have anything to hold over him.

  15. You all are trusting Graham?

  16. Kansas #16 HELL NO, and Oh by the way, I am a blogger journalist. Thought I would get this in writting so I’m protected. I work pro bono of course.
    powder is dry.

  17. He should be like Dick Morris. Get out and make yourself useful. Tell us the inside scoop and how to defeat these idiots. You obviously don’t have it in you to resist their idiocy on a consistent basis, so get out of the way for someone who does. Lead from the outside maybe, but get out.

  18. He is doing this on behalf of his BFF McCain, who is getting his butt kicked in his primary bid. Old RINO’s stick together to keep from being eaten by the young lions.

  19. He is flip flopping just like McSame. Heard a clip this morning of him being all mavericky on illegal immiagration. McSame will be shown the pasture along with Gram-nisty soon enough. Dont think these progressive liberals are going to throw in the towel when their RINO buddies are outed. There is one more standing in the shadows that will do their bidding. Why 90% of the Republicans need to go retire with these two nitwits.

  20. Well, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

The immigration issue is interesting, coming immediately after the AZ law. The law is pretty reasonable. I honestly don’t know if it will make a real difference, because I think most police would be reticent to stop people for this. That said, all you need is any federal or state ID (like a drivers license); you don’t have to carry a birth certificate or passport.

  21. Beck started unraveling this story yesterday: Obama & the Chicago Climate Exchange Goldman Sachs/Green Scheme on his show. hmmm… what’s Graham’s connection,if any, to this scam? I’d love to hear what the Senator has to say.

  22. I am not worried about his motives for now, long as he keeps his “faith” and stays in the “nay” column when the voting is done.

However, he has broken faith with conservatives and what the Rep Party should be. That is done, and hopefully he will be turned out ASAP. No quarter asked or given, little man.

  23. Progressive finds an ACORN ??

  24. “If you can keep your head when all about you
are losing theirs, and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
and make allowance for their doubting, too. …”

I think our current immigration legislation is a mess with serious perverse incentives built in, that needs comprehensive revision. I think the opportunistic attempt to have this bill considered on an extremely tight schedule, without appropriate time to do the background work, in an atmosphere polluted with mis-information about the bill in Arizona, and the slanders circulating against both the citizens of that state, its officials, and the Tea Parties, is a cynical ploy to ram through legislation that the vast majority of this country (including all those hispanics who bothered to come here legally) do not want.

I am glad Mr. Lindsey Graham has bluntly called the majority party out on this matter. This is a meaningful protest from someone in the right position, with the right stature, who has a history of being reasonable and working with the majority party.

    Thank you, Mr. Graham.

  25. huh. I went to Sen. Graham’s website, and found this:

    Senator Graham Press Releases
    Date: 04/22/2010

Graham Passes Amendment to Remove TARP Funds

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) today introduced and passed through the Senate Budget Committee an amendment to prevent $44 billion remaining in TARP from being spent. The vote on the Graham Amendment was 12-11.

“I voted for the initial installment of TARP to prevent a meltdown of our financial system,” Graham said. “Since those days, TARP has taken on a life and flavor no one ever envisioned.”

Graham noted that the Senate budget resolution uses the remaining $44 billion from TARP on other spending items not associated with the restoring the financial system.

“If you would have told me at the time I voted for it that TARP would be used to bail out car companies, I wouldn’t have supported it,” said Graham. “The $44 billion remaining in TARP is becoming a slush fund. I am pleased the Senate Budget Committee passed my amendment to address this problem.”

    *************

I checked Google to find out if I’d missed a news story. Nope.

Every once in a while, you can catch these guys being good. But it has to be by accident, when there are no cameras around.

  26. Maybe Dear Lindsey finally understands that the voters who hired him are MAD AS HELL AND NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANY MORE.

Bet he’s starting to think “Gee, how do I find a new job in THIS economy?”

  27. I heard on both Rush and Sean that Graham had been double crossed by Harry Reid on both immigration and cap and tax. Many here seem to think Graham is starting to really pay attention to what the polls are saying.

Either way I think he may be realizing he was nothing more than the useful idiot. That’s a lonely place to be right now.

  28. Reid caves to Graham, will introduce cap-and-trade before immigration

The word from Politico as recently as this morning was that Reid was still planning to push immigration first, possibly bringing a bill directly to the floor and calling a vote by the recess on May 28. What’s suddenly changed?

  29. Jeez people. They have a gay scandal hanging over Graham’s head. Even Obama said that Mitch McConnel was “in bed with Wall Street”. The top RINOs that you love to hate are gays!!! Nancy outed Massa after how many years of him harassing his interns. And why? Because he was voting the wrong way. Our government is broken. Everybody is blackmailing everybody. Don’t you see how schizo the whole news cycle is. They are all NUTS! And we are nuts if we try to make sense out of their shennigans. There is no rhyme or reason to the complete madness.

As far as climategate goggle the name David Blood who is Al Gore’s business partner and a former Goldman Sachs partner now living in London. The carbon trading scheme is to be based out of Chicago. Are you catching the idea that the Chicago Mob has come to town in Washington.http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article.aspx?id=475461

Wise up it is all RIGGED. Just like World World of Wrestling. They are all the side of their pocketbook and acting like the mafia – blackmailing, wheeling, dealing and spinning in manic, crazy circles while we all go down the drain. Washington is broken and breaking our country. Talking about the madness like it is normal makes us mad. Just vote them all out and take the streets peacefully. Donate directly to candidates and bypass the RNC and the NRSC.

  30. Chisum,

I read the link you kindly provided, and I don’t read the situation the way AP does. AP seems to think that Graham’s remark to Napolitano, along the lines that you can forget doing anything about this until 2012, means that it will give the Republicans time to cool off. I don’t read it that way at all.

Graham is talking about a threat to the current administration, something THEY fear: enough election cycles to turn control of both Houses to the Republicans.

With a change in leadership, the immigration issue will be placed in the hands of the Republicans supported by a bunch of blue dog Democrats, plus some Liberals who have been told in no uncertain terms that any new immigration law must not allow a path to citizenship through violation of our laws.

Benjamin Cardin (D.) of Maryland, for example, will be up for re-election in 2012, and he told the Washington Post that he knows he will lose his seat if he votes for amnesty.

  31. Ben Cardin BETTER BELIEVE he will lose his seat. Graham was just having a little hissy fit and now Harry Reid will placate him and push Cap and Trade before Immigration. BOTH BILL SUCK!!!! Graham had his little moment in the spotlight and now he will play nice little traitor again.

  32. Sounds like somebody’s nose is out of joint.

Awwhh…. will someone get him a tissue!

  33. I hope that the voters in South Carolina will vote Lindsey Graham out when his term is up. They need a Republican conservative to replace him. Graham is another Rino’s just Sen. McCain and Mitt Romney.

  34. To all the emotional checkers players,

There are plenty of good reasons to be upset with Sen. Lindsay Graham, but let’s get past that and think a little deeper. The powers to be surely saw the Arizona Illegal alien law coming down the pike and I doubt they were surprised when the governor signed it into law. The Obama Administration’s reaction to the law and Sen. Harry Reid’s decision to redirect the senate were not spontaneous, but well planned. Does anyone believe Harry Reid decided to sellout Lindsay on his own? The administration knows they are in trouble on Cap & Tax and Amnesty so they have opted to loose the legislation and campaign on the issues. Dropping the race card was the strategy of the chess player while the whiners are stuck on the checkerboard.

Lindsay may or may not be the goat, but stopping America’s slide into the pit of the Obamination is the priority before we have a fat vat to pay for it.
