It Has Begun… Prominent Dem Senator Blasts Obama's Counter-Productive Israel Policy

Do you remember when Jesse Jackson said that under Obama Jews would lose all of their clout?
He was right.

It’s not like we weren’t warned. Obama has been the most anti-Israel president in generations. Things are so bad that far left Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer blasted the Obama Administration over its anti-Israeli policies this week on Israeli radio.
Ben Smith at The Politico reported:
New York Senator Chuck Schumer harshly criticized the Obama Administration’s attempts to exert pressure on Israel today, making him the highest-ranking Democrat to object to Obama’s policies in such blunt terms.
Schumer, along with a majority of members of the House and Senate, signed on to letters politely suggesting the U.S. keep its disagreements with Israel private, a tacit objection to the administration’s very public rebuke of the Jewish State over construction in Jerusalem last month.
But Schumer dramatically sharpened his tone on the politically conservative Jewish Nachum Segal Show today, calling the White House stance to date “counter-productive” and describing his own threat to “blast” the Administration had the State Department not backed down from its “terrible” tough talk toward Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Schumer, a hawkish ally of Israel since his days as a Brooklyn Congressman, described “a battle going on inside the administration” over Middle East policy.
“This has to stop,” he said of the administration’s policy of publicly pressuring Israel to end construction in Jerusalem.
“I told the President, I told Rahm Emanuel and others in the administration that I thought the policy they took to try to bring about negotiations is counter-productive, because when you give the Palestinians hope that the United States will do its negotiating for them, they are not going to sit down and talk,” Schumer told Segal. “Palestinians don’t really believe in a state of Israel. They, unlike a majority of Israelis, who have come to the conclusion that they can live with a two-state solution to be determined by the parties, the majority of Palestinians are still very reluctant, and they need to be pushed to get there.
Thousands of Israel supporters are planning an anti-Obama protest this Sunday in New York City.

I agree with Auntie Em. Schumer is pandering. These comments were given on a show whose audience is a very select group of Orthodox Jews. I don’t think we’ll see him calling Obama out on the Senate floor, or in a network news or WaPo interview. I see pure pandering here.

Barack Obama could be a force for enormous change in the Middle East. All he has to do is ask for repeal of the Hamas Covenant.

He had to wait for the polling to come back before he had the guts to stand up to Obama over his anti-Israel positions.
He should have stood up and at least acted like a man at the time Obama was making his outrageous statements and decisions.

Schumer only cares about Schumer. We have 2.5 years left of Obama, but a lifetime seat left for Schumer. In 2.5 years, Isreal could look a lot different than now.
Let’s look at it like this, Percy Sutton said individuals from the Arab world wanted Obama into Harvard. Someone paid for his education and we have no idea who, but it wasn’t the jews thats for sure. Obama does have an allegiance of some sort to the Palestinians. Obama knows HE and only HE will be “fair” enough to “re-balance” the lands in that region, and “re-balance” the inequalities in that region. Obama owes someone from the Arab world and he will deliver. Remember the video the LA Times is still hiding? Once Obama is out of office, the Palestinians, will never have another opportunity like this again…ever. IMO, Obama will deliver. But one has to ask, how will he deliver it? Which is pretty obvious, he is letting Iran and Syria build up the “hostile environment” almost like cornering a trapped animal. The animal has to react and in this case Isreal will be that animal and it too will be “cornered” and have to react. Isn’t true that Isreal already feels no-one has their back anymore and that they have to go it alone…this is the set up.

Too little and too late. Durbin, Kerry, Dodd and others did not sign the letter. This is just a flash in the pan, as Mayor Koch’s writings have shown. There isn’t enough interest in the Jewish American community to fight for Israel despite a few recent polls. As another poster pointed out, BeBe will probably fold. He has already done so behind the scenes.
