Dr. Dan Benishek, but he’s a Republican running against Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI), who struck a deal with Nancy Pelosi that is believed to be the decisive vote to pass ObamaCare.

Dr. Dan Benishek is running against pro-abortion liar Bart Stupak:

I do hope someone helps him with some technical assistance.

From the Spectator Blog:

More than 1,700 people have already joined Benishek’s Facebook page.

  1. Stupak made such a spectical of himselft.

Good lord, if you’re going to stand on principal, then stand on it. Don’t claim to and then fold in the end. You beclown yourself.

  2. Man, my spelling is bad when I’m angry:

Stupak made a spectacle of himself.

    that’s better.

  3. I will support this man in any way I can.

  4. I live in CA. and am sending a donation. First time in my life I have made donations to anyone outside of where I live. Have been since the thug in chief and his posse took over.

  5. Stupak has sold out his (alleged) pro-life stance for the promise of an ‘executive order’ that Obama is to author to deny Fed Funds for abortions?

Hey Bart, did you get that in writing?

  6. Thanks Jim. I’ve been posting about Dr. Benishek and hoped you would do a thread on him. Go to his facebook account and read what he stands for… conservative all the way! People are leaving notes asking for him to make it possible to donate on line. When last a looked he had over 3000 new friends!!! This is what we need!!

  7. Why don’t you all try reading the executive order instead of reflexively raging against the guy?

I know there are a lot of Republicans Before Anything Elsers here who claim to be pro-life merely as a pretense, but face it. The executive order that is going to be signed with this bill is going to be perhaps the most stringent restriction on abortion since Roe. It will make obtaining abortions much, much more expensive and therefore likely lead to a dramatic decrease in aborton.

You all aren’t mad because you think the bill isn’t pro-life enough; it’s other issues. And that’s fine. But for Pete’s sake, drop the pretenses.

  8. Why don’t you all try reading the executive order instead of reflexively raging against the guy?

Because it’s a sham. A presidential executive order can’t amend a bill. It’s illegal. Federal courts will support the law, not the EO.

Obama and Stupak know this, and so do the rest of us. We’re not fooled, unfortunately for your side.

  9. Executive Order Hijinks

Andy McCarthy marvels at the irony:

I know we tire of the hypocrisy, but I really think this is remarkable. We spent the eight years through January 19, 2009, listening to Democrats complain that President Bush had purportedly caused a constitutional crisis by issuing signing statements when he signed bills into law. Democrats and Arlen Specter (now a Democrat) complained that these unenforceable, non-binding expressions of the executive’s interpretation of the laws Bush was signing were a usurpation Congress’s power to enact legislation…

[H]ow do we go from congressional Democrats claiming that signing statements were a shredding of the Constitution to congressional Democrats acquiescing in a claim that the president can enact or cancel out statutory law by diktat?

    http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=YjFiNGRiZmFiY2NjYTMzNGFiMDQ2NjIxZTc3ZTg4ODU=

  10. Now that Bart “Caveman” Stupak has confirmed he is not a statesman and is unfit for public office either because he is corrupt or he is so dumb he is easily duped or ignorant of the facts and the law, which of the two opponents has the better chance of beating him AND has the better credentials with respect to honoring the oath of office and NOT contracting “Swamp Fever” or “Potomac Poisoning” or “Beltway Blindness” from exposure to the toxic environment in Washington, D.C.?

    Dan Benishek

    Linda Goldthorpe

  11. Some money will help him to get the technical assistance he needs, like a good website. I just sent this guy some $$.

  12. Atlas Mugged: No, abortion is not the only thing bad about this bill. EVERYTHING is bad about this bill, but an executive order cannot over-ride a bill. How stupid are these guys?

  13. There are NO BORDERS!
U$A is OPEN to the CITIZENS OF THE WORLD!

Yes We Can! SI SE PUEDE! SI SE PUEDE! http://www.BorderInvasionPics.com

  14. Stupak is stupid. That Executive Order is not going to last long. The minute Obama signs the Order, N.O.W., or some other group that has no regard for human life, will file suit, and based on current law, the Executive Order will be ruled illegal. Somehow I don’t think the Justice Department will appeal the ruling. Done deal. Obama can say that he signed the Order in good faith, that he intended to abide by it, but those pesky courts tied his hands. Stupak is stupid, or worse.

  15. Looking at that picture on Drudge of the “Gang” laughing and holding hands with Stretch carrying the sledgehammer, it’s easy to see why they are all laughing. They are laughing at all of us gullible pro-life, pro-sovereignty, pro-Constitution suckers they fooled by means of their traitor-in-our-midst, Bart “Caveman” Stupak, the most convincing act in their Circus. Never again trust a Democrat…NEVER!

  16. Executive Order cannot overturn law.
And the executive order being talked about basically says that it will “enforce the law as it is written.”

Well, guess what? Soon as the Senate bill is signed, the law changes. It mandates that EVERY state carry at least one health plan that covers abortion, which can be paid for with tax money.

The EO enforces law as it is written.. the law changes to cover abortion… the EO enforces tax-paid abortion.

Si se puede hundir un país. You are a total nincompoop and only capable of repeating stupidities…

  18. If the EO had any teeth then the pro abortionist crowd would be screaming. But they’re not, because they know this is a sham designed to give Stupak some cover in order to vote yes. Face facts; Stupak caved for a worthless piece of paper. We need to remove all Democrats from office.

  19. NSM/Leona: point to any line in the bill that explicitly says “this funds abortion.” You won’t find it, because it’s not in there.

The executive order seals the deal by specifically binding the government to prevent any funds from going to abortion. Period.

If you think that executive orders don’t have any legal effect, then you don’t know much if anything about how government works.

And if you think that the order can’t be trusted, you’d probably think the same if statutory language exists anyway. Your objections have nothing to do with abortion, it’s about your excessive cheerleading for your team.

As for the “everything is bad” quip, keep in mind that this is pretty much the same bill that GOP Contract for America crew put out in the 90′s. You’re walking so far off the deep end that I wouldn’t be surprised if you would call Newt or even the Gipper a couple of pinko commies if they were in office now.

  20. exceller, swing and a miss. http://www.now.org/press/03-10/03-21a.html

“The National Organization for Women is incensed that President Barack Obama agreed today to issue an executive order designed to appease a handful of anti-choice Democrats who have held up health care reform in an effort to restrict women’s access to abortion.”

  21. This woman is also running in the district and is living in the 21st century, with a website – http://www.lindaforcongress.com

  22. wow, you missed the sarcasm. Go back up and click the link on VIVA LA RAZA!! #16 and meet a patriot.

  23. Dr. Dan Benishek will need all the financial help he can get. We can safely assume that unlimited campaign funds and acorn/union help came with the deal. Savvy congressmen like Stupak don’t sell their souls for peanuts. From all signs, he has been playing a cool bluff for some time to profit from precisely this situation.

  24. He’s up to almost 4400 members on his Facebook group page!

  25. AtlasMugged, you must have studied law under Barak Obama, same class as the troll who doesn’t know the law about clandestine recording of phone conversations without knowledge and consent of at least ONE of the PARTIES to the conversation. You are simply WRONG.

  26. Update on the Benishek for Congress facebook page: from 1,700 at 4:40 EDT to over 4,200 at 7:40 EDT. Momentum building FAST!

Thank you for bringing this solid guy to our attention, Jim!

Everybody else, get on over to that facebook page and add your voice to the roar!

  27. We need to be clear and ask everyone who we support from this point vow to repeal this law should it pass. If not NO $$$$$

  28. Never mind “Dr. Pony Express” and his facebook page.

    See – - http://www.lindaforcongress.com/issues/right-to-life

  29. Stupak needs to go directly to the top of the hit list. We need to make sure Benishek raises an insane amount of money this week, just to make a point. “You vote for Socialism, we vote you out”.

  30. True judgement for Mr. Stupak will come after this lifetime. The people have an opportunity to chose someone in November that will be a voice for the unborn. Support Dr. Benishek!

    Back on topic:

STATEMENT BY THE NATIONAL RIGHT TO LIFE COMMITTEE
ON ABORTION “DEAL” ON HEALTH CARE LEGISLATION

WASHINGTON — (Sunday, March 21, 2010, 6 PM EDT) — In response to today’s announcement regarding an agreement between Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Mi.) and President Obama on the pending health care bill (H.R. 3590), the following statement was issued by the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of right-to-life organizations in the 50 states:

The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC) remains strongly opposed to the Senate-passed health bill (H.R. 3590). A lawmaker who votes for this bill is voting to require federal agencies to subsidize and administer health plans that will pay for elective abortion, and voting to undermine longstanding pro-life policies in other ways as well. Pro-life citizens nationwide know that this is a pro-abortion bill. Pro-life citizens know, and they will be reminded again and again, which lawmakers deserve their gratitude for voting against this pro-abortion legislation.

The executive order promised by President Obama was issued for political effect. It changes nothing. It does not correct any of the serious pro-abortion provisions in the bill. The president cannot amend a bill by issuing an order, and the federal courts will enforce what the law says.

To elaborate: The order does not truly correct any of the seven objectionable pro-abortion provisions described in NRLC’s March 19 letter to the House of Representatives, which is posted here: http://www.nrlc.org/AHC/NRLCToHouseOnHealthBill.pdf

    .

Regarding Community Health Centers (CHCs), NRLC has documented the problem created by H.R. 3590 here: http://www.nrlc.org/AHC/NRLCMemoCommHealth.html.
Prof. Robert Destro, a professor of law and former dean of the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America, and an expert on abortion-related litigation, has sent lawmakers a letter explaining why the bill opens the door to direct federal funding of abortion in Community Health Centers: http://www.nrlc.org/ahc/DestroLetterToStupakOnCommHealthCenters.pdf

    .
Prof. Destro clearly explains why it is the statutory language that will govern.

Regarding the new program to provide tax credits to purchase private insurance, the executive order merely tinkers with the formalities of a bookkeeping scheme under which federal subsidies will pay for plans that cover elective abortion — a break from the longstanding principles of the Hyde Amendment.

The order does nothing at all to mitigate the other abortion-related problems described in the NRLC letter, dealing with bill provisions that create dangerous regulatory mandate authorities, revise Indian health programs, and create pools of directly appropriated funds that are not covered by existing restrictions on funding of abortion. Nor can the order correct the omission from the pending legislation of the necessary conscience-protection language that had been included in House-passed health care legislation last November (the “Weldon language”).

For additional information regarding the abortion-related components of the legislation, and NRLC’s assessment of the gravity of these issues, please refer to the March 19 letter linked above, and other materials posted on the NRLC website at http://www.nrlc.org/AHC/Index.html.

  33. Anybody who believes Obama would do ANYTHING that would actually restrict abortion in any way is clueless. Please consider:

    1. As an Illinois state senator, he advocated the killing of babies born alive after “unsuccessful” late-term abortions. Even pro-abort radicals Hillary Clinton and Barbara Boxer voted against killing already-born babies. Obama is way, way, way beyond “pro-choice.” He has a documentable, virulent animosity against babies.
    http://www.bornalivetruth.org
    http://www.onetruemedia.com/otm_site/view_shared?p=7030bd098cca768e72d111&skin_id=701&utm_source=otm&utm_medium=text_url

    2. Obama promised Planned Parenthood that he would make passage of the “Freedom of Choice Act” (which would repeal all restrictions on abortion in all 50 states) his “first” priority.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pf0XIRZSTt8

    3. Obama would not be in the White House today were it not for billionaire George Soros and all his 527 groups, untraceable foreign prepaid-credit-card donations, etc.
    http://biggovernment.com/pgeller/2010/01/25/call-for-an-audit-of-obamas-campaign-finances/
    http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/individualProfile.asp?indid=977
And George Soros’ number-one obsession is global population reduction–a project to which abortion is absolutely key. The man has funded the building of abortion clinics all over the globe, and is active politically in trying to get abortion legalized in every country in the world.
    http://www.lifenews.com/int1206.html
    http://www.newsofinterest.tv/neocon_globalist/daisnaid/daisnaid_soros.php
Is anyone really so naive as to believe that Soros would have backed Obama if Obama did not share Soros’ ideology in this matter?

Even if you knew nothing else about Obama–his making fun of retarded people; his labeling of babies as a “punishment,” etc.–you still would know from the three things above, all by themselves, that this man will never (unless God works a miracle in his heart) never do anything that would impede abortion.

  34. Dan Benishek just answered on his facebook account:

Daniel Benishek Thank you for all of your support and donations. The Benishek for Congress PayPal account should be ready by Monday 3/22. We can do this!

  35. I know everyone is jumping on the Benishek bandwagon but there is another Conservative Pro-life candidate too. It’s Linda Goldthorpe. I heard about her earlier today and checked out her site. I haven’t decided between her and Benishek, because I don’t know much at all about him, but she does impress me. To be fair we should give her a look too. I hate jumping on a bandwagon without knowing much about a candidate. I’ve been burned that way before. Here’s her site..
    http://www.lindaforcongress.com/

  36. Okay, I did a bit of reading on both candidates and Linda Goldthorpe is a Ron Paul supporter. So she lost any chance of my support. But you can all make up your own minds.

  37. Benishek’s picking up about 100 people per minute.

The canard of being a “pro-life” Democrat is finished.

The delusion of being a Democrat Catholic is discredited.

  38. Correction:

Benishek’s picking up about 20 people per minute,
about 7,500 at 7:42 pm (this sitetime)

    The other statements still stand.

  39. Phyllis Schlafly said it best, today:
“This vote will expose the myth of the ‘pro-life Democrat.’”

Couldn’t have said it any better.

  40. The fix was in! Stupak was bought off! He’s a political whore!

From his own website, dated March 19th, 2010.

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced three airports in northern Michigan have received grants totaling $726,409 for airport maintenance and improvements. The funding was provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration.

“This federal funding will help these airports better provide critical services to communities in northern Michigan,” Stupak said. “I am pleased the FAA has made this investment in our local airports and the individuals and businesses they serve.”

Alpena County Regional Airport received a grant of $85,500 to acquire friction measuring equipment, specifically a decelermeter and tow vehicle, to replace equipment that has worn out.

Delta County Airport in Escanaba received a grant of $179,209 to install a 10 foot perimeter fence to enhance security and prevent wildlife from entering the airport.

The Chippewa County International Airport near Sault Ste. Marie received a grant of $461,700 to install lighted signs on Runway 16/34 and make repairs to the pavement to meet marking requirements and maintain structural integrity.

This funding is provided to the FAA through the regular federal appropriations process and is awarded through competitive grants.

  41. I hear that Stupak is going to get 2 airports for his district and the deal was done this last Friday. So Judas Stupak sold his soul for 30 pieces of Silver. I fear the Govt. controlling Abortions — there will be death panels for the unborn and that is scary–as someone who is pro-choice I don’t want to see the Government controlling or forcing Abortions on women.

  42. The Insurance Companies used to give money to both parties. I bet this time their money the Dems won’t get a dime.

  43. Sorta seems like he got bought for a small price,

he announced $726K for three airports in his district on 3/10/2010

    http://www.house.gov/apps/list/speech/mi01_stupak/morenews/20100319faagrant.html

    cheap date!

  44. If we find out some crap about a candidate we should share it with one another. Because there will be a lot of phonies out there. For instance, a new Tea Party branch has opened in Las Vegas. But they are not affiliated with the Tea Party. One of their candidates is running against Harry Reid and he is a good pal of Reids. Congresswomen Shelley Berkeley and Dina Titus, who waited until their offices were closed on Friday to announce their support of the Healthcare bill should not be rewarded for their duplicity–with phoney candidates taking votes from Republicans.

  45. You think Stupak cares whether Obama is true to his word. Stupak just wants to get back in the Dems good graces. His gimmick is he is Pro-Life and it milks it for all its worth.

After the Senate voted for the Bill in December the House members were upset that all the goodies went to the Senate. That’s why so many remained undecided — they wanted their piece of the pie.

  46. I saw Dr. Benishek’s link on Michelle Malkin’s site and joined when his numbers were in the hundreds. I also saw Linda Goldthorpe and checked her out. Besides being a Ron Paul supporter, she is another lawyer. Sure, she has a nice website and can probably speak eloquently, but Benishek is the real deal. He’s one of us. As a former resident of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I’m thrilled to lend financial support to a solid conservative.

  47. I have called, faxed and prayed. I genuinely believed that this could not happen. Its kind of gotten me down but I know that this is only the first inning in a game which won’t be finished until November. I have been so impressed with The Republican Party and Republicans in general. When you stand for something its with your whole heart.

On Friday I called Harry Reid’s office, the assistant trashed me and I ended up hanging up on her. I thought I voted for this man and this is how I’m treated. But they don’t care what we think — and that’s the hardest thing for me to come to terms with.

  48. Dan is nearing 10,000 Fans – Paypal link is up and I hit it for $50

  49. What exactly did Pelosi bribe Stupak with to get that jokers vote, and who else flipped due to this phony “executive order” BO promised him.

Good Luck with your run again this trader.

  50. for Atlast Mugged and anyone else who thinks that Executive Order fixes anything …

this is FROM the Executive Order:

    “Section 4. General Provisions.

    (a) Nothing in this Executive Order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect: (i) authority granted by law or presidential directive to an agency, or the head thereof; or (ii) functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

    (b) This Executive Order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

    (c) This Executive Order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity against the United States, its departments, agencies, entities, officers, employees or agents, or any other person.”

nothing could be clearer: that EO isn’t worth a damn. now, atlast mugged, we can explain it TO you; but unfortunately, we cannot understand it FOR you. good luck.

  51. The people of Stupak’s district need to make him the poster child for what is going to happen to these vermin/socialists in Nov. and run him out of town. This person is a liar. How can you pretend to be pro-life and vote for this. Shame on you Mr. Stupak.

  52. I am a resident of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula – a constituent of our national embarassment; Congressman Bart Stupak. I checked-out Dr. Benishek’s two websites and he sounds very solid, but in the process of investigating, I also learned about another very conservative candidate who is running against Stupak too… his name is Tom Stillings and he sounds like a fantastic candidate also. I believe my state deadline for filing as a Congressional candidate is May11th, therefore we still have six more weeks before the deadline, and consequently may have additional candidates running on the Republican Primary ballot . Michigan’s primary is August 3rd, 2010. All of these Primary candidates deserve publicity. Our population is very low due to small country communities with large spans of wilderness between, making the Congressional District a HUGE territory to cover. It can take as much as 8 hours (one-way) to drive from one end of our District to the opposite. This makes it very difficult for new candidates to get their names known during campaigning. These candidates need outside financial support and media coverage. Please investigate this candidate too:

    Tom Stillings For U.S. Congress:

    http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tom-Stillings-for-Congress/359528951597

  53. In response to Barbara Neal’s (March 21st) blog question #58 above regarding what Pelosi may have bribed my Congressman Stupak with to get his vote on Health Care… the following link may offer some insight. Naturally, Stupak’s office has already claimed there was no relationship between the two subjects, but here is a press release by Stupak’s office last Friday for him receiving $727,000 pork-barrel spending on some airports in my District…

I’m totally disgusted with this person as my Congressman….

    http://www.house.gov/apps/list/speech/mi01_stupak/morenews/20100319faagrant.html

  54. The Pro life people and the pro death abortionists now agree on one thing! The executive order that obama signed is worthless! Thank you stupak.

  55. An Executive Order signed by Obama is worth about as much as the paper his Hawaiian birth certificate is written on….”surgically” remove Stupak in November!!
