Republican Jean Schmidt Receives Threats Over Health Care Stance

Republican Congresswoman Jean Schmidt is receiving threatening calls over her health care position. Republicans John Boehner and Mitch McConnell were also mentioned in the message.
The Hill reported:
U.S. Capitol Police are investigating a threatening voicemail left in the office of Rep. Jean Schmidt (R-Ohio), her chief of staff said Thursday.
Schmidt’s office was left a voicemail late Wednesday night in what appears to be the first instance of a Republican lawmaker being targeted for their healthcare vote.
The voicemail features a caller who talks of wishing the congresswoman had broken her back in a 2008, according to a recording send to the media by Schmidt’s chief of staff, Barry Bennett.
The voicemail makes reference to Schmidt, as well as Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House GOP Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio), calling them and the Republican Party racist.
The voicemail specifically references a 2008 incident when Schmidt was hit by a car while jogging, due to which she suffered broken ribs and a broken vertebrae.

The office of Republican Jean Schmidt of Ohio also released a profanity-laced phone message in which the caller accused the GOP of being racist and, referring to an accident two years ago when Schmidt was hit by a car while jogging, said “you should have broke your back, b… .“

You realize, of course, that the San Diego Union-Tribune has an article today with the headline “Democrats get death threats, vandalism” from the New York Times and the Washington Post. We’ll see if there’s a follow-up story. One is available.
Now the NYT says the Repubs are “distancing themselves” and the Democrats are using it for fund-raising.

I suppose this is as close as the NYT can get to admitting that there’s been bad behavior on both sides.
I am really not impressed with the supposed fears of these people. After the nasty, fighting words they have been using, such as introducing the term “teabaggers” into public discourse, I have to acknowledge, they’ve been asking for it. Further, they need it so much that they would make it up if it didn’t exist.
I have not threatened anybody. I did write, respectfully, to my Senators and Congressman. They know, of course, that they have done an ugly thing, and given insult to many people by ignoring their wishes, and by using questionable procedure.
Their behavior is offensive, and they know it. If they perceive a threat from that, it is surely the very legitimate threat that large enough numbers of their constituents will vote against them.
Some of our representatives are trying to convert the legitimate threat to an illegitimate threat of physical harm. This is a fundraising tactic that they do not take seriously.
I know our elected representatives do not take the physical threats seriously, and that they never have done so. I live in the state where they let loose the guy that shot and paralyzed George Wallace. That action sent the wrong message, and now those fools are working hard to create an atmosphere where it could happen, again.
As far as I am concerned, anybody who tries to physically harm a politician has attacked the country itself, and anybody who had tried and nearly succeeded in killing a person running for elective office should be put away for the rest of their lives.

Sharia law prohibits Muslims from paying interest on loans, too, including mortgage loans. Hence the reason for Sharia-compliant banking (yes, it’s available through some banks here in the US; can’t recall which, would have to look it up). Also the reason that Muslims rely heavily on Habitat For Humanity; they work with bank loan mgrs to reduce the selling price of the home by however much the interest on the loan is (in other words, Habitat will pick up the tab for the interst part of a Muslim home loan).

I didn’t think of this until reading it in the comments at another site only a few minutes ago, but it’s odd that for weeks or even months prior to signing the bill, calls couldn’t get through these reps phone lines and emails weren’t actually read (proof of which would be the non-related form letters we received from them in response to the emails we sent to them). But since Monday, however, lines seem to be open and voicemail has room so the threatening calls can get through and emails are actually being read so threats aren’t going unnoticed. Amazing, isn’t it?
