Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats tripled the national deficit in one year in 2009. They will almost certainly top that this year.

The unemployment rate soared to a record 9.7%.
Speaker Pelosi was asked yesterday to grade her performance in 2009.
She gave herself an A.
The Note reported:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gave herself an “A” for effort, grading her performance in office. In a “This Week” interview, Speaker Pelosi told ABC’s Elizabeth Vargas, “I think I get an A for effort. And in the House of Representatives, my mark is the mark of our members. We have passed every piece of legislation that is part of the Obama agenda.”
Asked why nearly 300 bills passed by the House are stalled in the Senate, Pelosi blamed the “delaying tactics of the Republicans in the Senate.”
Like Pelosi, Obama gave himself a “Good Solid B+” for his disastrous year.

I have only one quibble (sp?) w/ this graphic, which is quite popular on (mostly) conservative sites. I say that as a conservative.
The “surpluses” shown in the graphic during the Clinton years, so lauded by Dimmicrats – does the graphic take into account the co-mingling of general taxes w/ the Social Security fund?
I’m guessing it does not distinguish. I’d enjoy seeing a more accurate graph which would show the true deficits with Social Security “raiding” taken out. I’m fairly certain that would show the deficits as much worse, and the Clinton “surpluses” as non-existent.
Oh, and how is that wiping out of three Army divisions thinging working out?

Pelosi should say — are you going to believe me or your lying eyes? Like Obama she looks at the camera and lies. We the people don’t matter, either because they think we’re idiots or because they don’t think at all. Power corrupts — absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Your graph is wrong on two fronts. First off, as Zachriel pointed out, FY 2009 was planned and executed during the “Bush years.”
Furthermore, you include FY 2000 and 2001 as “Bush years” a decision that is either incredibly lazy or simply dishonest (or both), in that Bush *wasn’t even in the presidency* until…that’s right, January 2001, and his first budget would have been for FY 2002.
In short, those eight bars that dip below the line after our budget surplus? Bush’s responsibility. To say otherwise is a verifiable lie.

No need buddy…Obama-mao brought us 787 billion dollar stimulus in 2009, then another 350 billion stimulus 2…And, much of the Tarp money had been re-paid. It could have gone back into the general fund…Obama, Nancy, and Harry are sitting on over a trillion dollar slush fund that could have eliminated most of the 2009 deficit…
Jim commented:
“A for effort” is exactly consistent with the liberal mentality. In schools, they believe in good grades if you try hard enough, not if you achieve results. A lousy term paper that babbles on for the required number of pages and uses the required number of references is “A” work where they’re concerned. Pelosi certainly did try very hard to shove their agenda through; hence, “A for effort.” Personally, I don’t believe in A for effort; I believe in “A” for results.

Blue #28,
I’m typing this slowly so you can read it.
Presidents pass or veto what is offered. Congress appropriates and spends funds (that is thier official duties) civics 101. Last time I looked the house and senate became democrat controlled in 2006. Since Bush was such a stellar example of a moderate. He played ball with the Dem’s. Spending through the roof and signing the bills the Dem majority sent to him. Sorry, Barry voted for every one of the spending bills. Tarp, Tarp 2 just big slush funds and payoffs to the cronies. This president is such a liar and it is obvious to those that are not luddites. powder is dry.

Instead of trying to blame on Bush, why not just label the graph with the years that Pelosi was speaker of the House. If I remember right is not the House/Senate the approving authoriy for spending.

You’re first point is wrong, congress came under Democratic leadership in 2007. The idea that Bush “played ball” with Democrats because he was a “stellar example of a moderate” is certainly not what W will known for, and is not even remotely an explanation for the spending situation. Lest we forget, TARP originated in the Bush executive branch, as did the auto bailout.
You may also take a moment to notice that in FY2003-2007, that is, the years where the entire federal government was run by the GOP, show some of the deepest deficits on this chart thanks to the following unfunded liabilities:
- high-income tax cuts (deficit of ~$4 trillion by 2019)
- medicare part D (~$1 trillion)
- two wars (deficit of ~$7 trillion)
Moderate? I think not.
Furthermore, whether or not you think Obama is a liar or not is immaterial – he’s governed exactly the way he said he would. You don’t have to like it. The unfortunate fact is, deficit spending is going to stick with us at least until the end of the recovery, and has been the unofficially stated policy of every President since Carter. I hope this isn’t news to you.

Blue,
Glad you appreciate the deficit spending logic…Unfortunately, people live in the real world, not some Kenesian fantasy world…Obama is pushing this country headlong into a zimbabwe-like debt crisis…The government have no hope of controlling spending much less paying back any debt…Our bonds will become radio-active eventually so that only the Fed will buy them with their own printed money. The currency crisis that follows will make everything in your life more expensive and it will crush dollar denominated savings. Good luck with that…Actions have consequences…

Pelosi is like the person who cheats on exams, gets an A and figures she received an A because she must be smart, and considering she has done and will do ANYTHING to get bills passed, I’m thinking, in her mind, she most likely believes she deserves an A. Getting every bill passed on Obama’s agenda is impressive – it must tick her off that there is a hold up in the Senate and that her effort is for naught. Bwhahahaha.
