Former Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger told Neil Cavuto that Obama is playing with fire and playing with dynamite and doesn’t learn from his mistakes.

100 years ago, progressives invented humane methods (like poison gas and ovens) to eradicate the planet of the undesirable races like the Jews. Germans, who were overly ambitious in their application, helped illustrate that an aggressive all-out approach is problematic.

Most of us have narcissistic traits, and a certain degree of self-interest is healthy. But at what point does self-absorption become pathological narcissism?
The term narcissism is derived from the Greek myth of Narcissus, a handsome youth who became obsessed with himself, falling in love with his own reflection. Some degree of narcissism is considered normal; however, when narcissistic traits are so predominant that they significantly impair an individual’s social functioning, this merits a psychological diagnosis of Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). Yet, the spectrum of narcissistic behavior can extend far beyond NPD to include even more serious forms of self-obsession including malignant narcissism and psychopathy (Kernberg 2003, 2004).
What is Narcissistic Personality Disorder?
The DSM-IV-TR, a manual that psychologists use to diagnose NPD and other mental disorders, explains that NPD is a type of psychological personality disorder characterized by grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy. Narcissism occurs in a spectrum of severity, but the pathologically narcissistic tend primarily be men (75%) who are extremely self-absorbed, intolerant of others’ perspectives, insensitive to others’ needs and indifferent to the effect of their own egocentric behavior. NPD is one of a cluster of loosely-related personality disorders (Borderline PD, Antisocial PD and Histrionic PD), all based on dramatic, emotional or erratic behavior.
Diagnostic Overlap of Cluster B Disorders
Considerable overlap between the characteristics of different personality disorders can make diagnosis of NPD challenging. Grandiosity, lack of empathy and exploitative interpersonal relations are not unique to NPD, nor is the need to be seen as special or unique. The differential diagnosis of NPD is typically made based on the absence of certain behaviors.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) has several conspicuous similarities, but unlike NPD is characterized by self-injury, whereas narcissists are rarely physically self-injurious. The need for constant attention is also found in Histrionic Personality Disorder, but HPD and BPD are both relationship oriented, whereas NPD is characterized by avoidance of intimacy. Psychopathy, or Antisocial Personality Disorder, is differentiated from NPD by psychopaths’ willingness to use physical violence, whereas narcissists rarely commit crimes (Vaknin, 1999-2007).
How Is Malignant Narcissism Different from NPD?
Otto Kernberg MD, a legendary thought leader in the study of personality disorders, originated the term “malignant narcissism” to describe a syndrome of narcissism that went beyond Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). Malignant narcissism is like NPD on pathological steroids, manifesting additional antisocial features, paranoid traits, and ego-syntonic aggression. Kernberg believed that malignant narcissism was part of a spectrum of narcissistic behavior; ranging from NPD, at the low end, to malignant narcissism, and with psychopathy representing the high end of narcissistic severity.
Spectrum of Narcissism
Psychopaths can almost be thought of as emotionally disabled in that they appear to experience a very limited range of emotion. They know the difference between what society considers “right” and “wrong,” but do not experience, and cannot empathize with, the feelings of suffering, remorse, elation and love that are normally part of the human experience.
Kernberg differentiated psychopathy from malignant narcissism based on his assessment that psychopaths are so resistant to external influences that they are unlikely to internalize even the values of the “aggressor.” Psychopaths are unable to emotionally identify with others. In contrast, he believed narcissists to have the capacity to identify with and admire powerful people, “which permits at least some loyalty and good object relations to be internalized.” However, all three levels of narcissistic behavior pathology share the common threads of extreme self-absorption and insensitivity that often result in a trail of victims–emotional wreckage left in the narcissist’s wake (Kernberg 2003, 2004).

Kenny Solomon, I agree with you. Obama knows what he is doing. If he were flailing around amateurishly, he would get things right once in a while. I have been waiting for a year and a half and he has gotten NOTHING right. I can only surmise that it is all part of his plan. He never liked Israel or America and is going about sticking it to us in any way he can.

Actually, what they resemble most is amateurs. Nothing–I repeat, nothing–that they are legislating will survive past January of 2011.
After ObamaCare was passed, a smart president would have gone out and tried to heal divisions and reassure the public that their fears were overblown. What did Obama do? Gloat and taunt.
That is amateurish. It’s the move of someone who doesn’t think beyond the next three or four minutes.
Obama is dangerous, but mostly because he’s terminally, universally incompetent. There’s no secret, dark cabal behind him. Everything is up front, out in the open. The Obama administration is about transforming the U.S. into a Second World power, a collectivist state dependent on the government. They as much say so themselves.
The vilification of the Tea Party is more incompetence. They didn’t even bother to plant people to shout the n-word. How stupid is that? They set the Tea Party protesters up with a recreation of the Selma civil-rights march, but then they forgot to put people in the crowd to shout racist epithets. They set up a perfect ambush, and then forgot to give their soldiers bullets!
They rammed ObamaCare down the necks of America’s corporations without creating a contingency plan for the forthcoming announcements of how much it would cost. Obama was utterly unprepared for the CEOs to fire back.
Be aware, of course, and be wary. But for God’s sake don’t be afraid of these people. They’re utter buffoons. Dangerous, yes, but brilliant conspirators? Absolutely not.

Okay, so what’s the purpose of antagonizing instead of reassuring the electorate after passing ObamaCare? What’s the strategic plan behind that?
I can tell you the strategic sense of NOT antagonizing the electorate after winning such an important victory: By attempting to mollify the electorate, you reduce the risk that voters will enthusiastically get revenge on you by voting your party out of power in such numbers that the opposition will be able to repeal your legislation and override a presidential veto of the repeal.
What’s the strategic rationale of continuing to enrage the electorate? ACORN essentially just disbanded. The Dems can’t possibly create and organize a replacement in time to steal the 2010 elections. Obama also can’t declare martial law and suspend the elections, because he has no internal-security apparatus like the Iranian mullahs, Hugo Chavez, or the Castro brothers.
It all reeks of plain incompetence to me, but I’m willing to listen to anybody who can explain in detail what Obama’s supremely effective plan is.
How does it benefit the Democrats to continue angering the electorate? If we apply Occam’s Razor (the simplest solution is usually the correct one) it would seem that Obama is doing what he’s doing because he’s crippled by arrogance, self-delusion, and a massively inflated sense of his own brilliance.
My money is on that answer, rather than the idea that he knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s certainly doing things deliberately, but at the same time he clearly hasn’t expected the fallout, which is damaging him and his party to such an extent that they risk political extinction and a permanent rejection of their philosophy.

I am a teacher, and education is one way that the electorate got this way. I am shocked at what adults don’t know about their country. I make it my mission to teach my students the basics. “The govrnment” is them; this means if “the government” pays for it, they do. They have freedoms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights and should exercise them. They must engage their government (local, state, and federal). Imagine what I could do if I taught social studies! (it’s language arts for me)

I see a lot of argument here between those who think he’s incompetent and those who think he knows what he’s doing, and those who think he’s evil.
I think the answer is that Obama knows what he’s doing, thinks that it is the right thing to do, and because he’s incompetent has been forced to use political brute force when better politicians would have had some finesse. On domestic issues, it’s less likely that Obama is clueless. But one can be subtle on domestic issues and incompetent on foreign policy. Let’s face it: Obama isn’t interested in foreign policy. He’s turning to it now because of domestic problems like unemployment, massive deficits, etc. Thing is, he has no clue what to do, so he’s driven by typical leftist instincts on the Mideast, all of which have long been proven to be destructive and foolish.
So it’s a mix of all the above. I think he honestly believes he’s doing the right thing. Yes, he knows the damage he’s doing, but he honestly believes it’s necessary and good for the nation. All the more reason to be frightened of him. There is nothing worse than someone doing the worst possible thing for what he believes are honorable reasons.

I don’t think he is being amateurish at all.
He is vindictive and try to seek revenge because PM Netanyahu is continuing on with his settlements and his policy that a divided Jerusalem is not negotiable; making the obama/biden look rather foolish.
Why now?; should building settlements be a lynchpin in the peace process they never were before?
Disagree with Mr Eagleberger; maybe the first time engaging as a new president in the peace process; but I think obama knows exactly what he is doing.
He just may not know the revenge and vengence of God.

It is my feeling that President Obama is going to be responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of people (or more) before he leaves office unless he “wakes up” to the reality of the International Situation FAST.
Israel can NOT allow Iran to mount a nuclear warhead on a Missile which can reach Israel. They will do whatever they have to do to prevent that.
