Holy Junk Science, Al Gore!
NASA and the state-run media knew about temperature data issues nearly three years ago…
But pushed global warming junk science despite of this.
Pajamas Media reported, via Free Republic:
Email messages obtained by the Competitive Enterprise Institute via a Freedom of Information Act request reveal that the climate dataset of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies (GISS) was considered — by the top climate scientists within NASA itself — to be inferior to the data maintained by the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit (CRU).
The NASA scientists also felt that NASA GISS data was inferior to the National Climate Data Center Global Historical Climate Network (NCDC GHCN) database.
These emails, obtained by Christopher Horner, also show that the NASA GISS dataset was not independent of CRU data.
Further, all of this information regarding the accuracy and independence of NASA GISS data was directly communicated to a reporter from USA Today in August 2007.
The reporter never published it.
In a sane world these snake oil salesmen would be jailed.
In related news… Nearly half of America believes the global warming threat is exaggerated by the loony left.

They showed a satellite photo. Of Spain. In summer.

It would be immensely helpful if we, as a people, would re-evaluate the importance of a college degree. Unless a student is seeking a degree in engineering, architecture, health care profession, micro biology, accounting, or other field that cannot be corrupted by ideological subversion; he or she comes out woefully in debt and unable to do anything practical. With lowered demand in soft sciences, peace studies, and other academically-bankrupt fields we could begin to drain the swamps much of academia has become.

In the present employment environment it’s difficult to imagine any vocation that will not be influenced by out sourcing. The areas of study I mentioned were not meant to be all encompassing. I list them only because a graduate can actually DO something with his/her degree upon earning it. Your statement that, “There’s only so many jobs for paper shuffling…”, illustrates my point. Perhaps if we stopped thinking of trades and technical vocations as somehow being less demanding and rigorous than college curricula we could get a handle on spiraling university costs. Everyone need not attend college to realize a satisfying, rewarding life. If we could begin to clean out the academic frauds in “studies” programs that are cut from whole cloth, that too, would be a damn fine outcome.

I have a slightly different opinion of this.
It is: Rather than admitting that NASA data was flawed, this was an intentional ruse to use CRU data because they had been successful in manipulating its data without detection (the stair step additions, such as Darwin).
From Hansen’s (NASA’s) perspective, he was being raked over the coals by McIntyre and others to provide his computer code. On top of that the US has a more established FOI structure than the UK making it far more difficult to avoid transparency.
The CRU at East Anglia simply provided an easier and less risky platform to peddle phony warmist data.

The Warmists & MSM talk about the data sets at CRU, NASA, and NOAA as tho they are different data sets. They are not. All of the organizations obtained the data sets from a sub-agency of NOAA. It’s all the same data in a giant feedback loop seeming to lay people to be three data sets with essentially the same data leading to one conclusion – AGW.

Yeah, it sounds like there’s some controversy about some of the data concerning the melting rates of glaciers and so forth, but I’m not sure how you all can be so certain that we don’t have the power to change the climate. Why WOULDN’T introducing a lot of carbon dioxide and methane have some impact on climate?

Facts: Carbon dioxide is not the major greenhouse gas (water vapor is).2

Fact: Most of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere does not come from the burning of fossil fuels. Only about 14 percent of it does.5
Quote 3: The AP said: “Global temperatures increased by about 1 degree Fahrenheit (0.6 degrees Celsius) during the 20th century, and international panels of scientists sponsored by world governments have concluded that most of the warming probably was due to greenhouse gases.”
Facts: Most of 20th Century global warming occurred in the first few decades of that century,6 before the widespread burning of fossil fuels (and before 82 percent of the increase in atmospheric CO2 observed in the 20th Century7).
The Earth does not have “world governments.” It doesn’t even have even one, as the United Nations is not a government, but an association of nations.
If the AP is referring to the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the AP should become aware that the IPCC report itself (the part written by scientists) reached no consensus on climate change. What did reach a conclusion was an IPCC “summary for policymakers” prepared by political appointees.8 Most reporters quote only the summary, being either too lazy or too undereducated to understand the actual report. This does not explain, however, why reporters don’t more frequently interview scientists who helped prepare it — scientists such as IPCC participant Dr. Richard Lindzen of MIT, who says the IPCC report is typically “presented as a consensus that involves hundreds, perhaps thousands, of scientists… and none of them was asked if they agreed with anything in the report except for the one or two pages they worked on.” Lindzen also draws a sharp distinction between the scientists’ document and its politicized summary: “the document itself is informative; the summary is not.”9

Didn’t mean to give anyone the impression I hadn’t done my homework. All I’m saying is that there are a lot of persuasive people saying a lot of different things, and a lot of evidence that science is getting clouded by politics. I just wonder how a regular guy with no science background is supposed to decide what to believe.
And then people say things like Al Gore made it all up to make money and take control. But then there are those who say corporate interests deny the truth in order to keep going with business as usual. And all I know for sure is I don’t want us to get it wrong.

The name of the reporter on this NASA thing is Doyle Rice of USA Today. This dates back to August 29th 2007 and as I understand it the information was given to him on that day between the hours of 12:30pm to 3:00pm.
