Pro-life Democrat Bart Stupak (D-MI) told National Review today that democratic leaders told him abortions are good because kids cost a lot of money.
Stupak notes that his negotiations with House Democratic leaders in recent days have been revealing. “I really believe that the Democratic leadership is simply unwilling to change its stance,” he says. “Their position says that women, especially those without means available, should have their abortions covered.” The arguments they have made to him in recent deliberations, he adds, “are a pretty sad commentary on the state of the Democratic party.”
What are Democratic leaders saying? “If you pass the Stupak amendment, more children will be born, and therefore it will cost us millions more. That’s one of the arguments I’ve been hearing,” Stupak says. “Money is their hang-up. Is this how we now value life in America? If money is the issue — come on, we can find room in the budget. This is life we’re talking about.”
If Obamacare passes, Stupak says, it could signal the end of any meaningful role for pro-life Democrats within their own party.
They’re animals.
The House democrats are ready to pass the Senate health bill without voting on it.

Why should anyone be surprised? During the campaign, Obama said, “I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby,” when referring to his daughters. That’s the most callous reason I’ve ever heard for covering abortions. And, it is the stupidest.
The government does not need to fund abortions. If the government does not fund abortions, they can still be obtainable, but the price will be lower, and must be paid by the person that wants it, or charities. This will keep the price, and the number, down. It will encourage people to use freely available birth control instead of abortion.
Sounds reasonable to me, one of a number of the resident Liberals here.
If the government makes funds available for abortions, there will be two predictable results:
1) the cost of abortions will rise. This happened with medical care, too. My dental bills, which were not commonly covered by insurance, did not keep pace with my medical charges, UNTIL they started being covered by insurance.
2) there will be more abortions, because people will use abortions INTEAD OF birth control. Just. Because. They. Can. Sorry, folks, I saw this in college. More than once.
In my view, the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade did us all a favor by withdrawing government power from the decision to have an abortion. There is nothing whatever in that decision that suggests that the government should encourage or pay for such decisions. Rather, it keeps the government from having the power to decide whether to indulge in wholesale slaughter of the innocent. This salutary effect will be undermined by government funding of abortions because
3) at some time in the future, the government will be able to make rules to encourage abortion, by selectively funding abortion benefits, but not medical care, for babies born with expected birth defects.
This is a back-door effort toward government control over women and families, and forced abortion of those with expected genetic defects.
Further, in my view, there is no decent policy reason why people who are morally opposed to abortion should be forced to pay for abortions. Strangers do not have to pay for the free speech of others, either.
If you don’t want to have your tax money used for abortions, send a letter to your Senators and Congressman. This includes those of you who are represented by Democrats like me. Please be polite, but be definite.
The Stupak amendment has the support of Liberals and the real Feminists.

As a practicing physician I have major concerns with the health care bill before Congress. I actually have read the bill and am shocked by the brazenness of the government’s proposed involvement in the patient-physician relationship. The very idea that the government will dictate and ration patient care is DANGEROUS and certainly not helpful in designing a health care system that works for all.
Every physician I work with agrees that we need to fix our health care system, but the proposed bills currently making their way through congress WILL BE A DISASTER IF PASSED.

Senator, I guarantee that I personally will do everything possible to inform patients and my fellow physicians about the dangers of the proposed bills you and your colleagues are debating.
Furthermore, if you vote for a bill that enforces socialized medicine on the country and destroys the doctor-patient relationship, I will do everything in my power to make sure you lose your job in the next election.

This is an insight into the fundamental health-care choice we have before us.
It doesn’t end with the unborn either. We would all become a cost under governmental health-care and as such our deaths would work to the advantage of the system.
I would prefer my continued life to work to the advantage of the system instead, and it does so when the heath-care system has to fight for my dollars. It is to their advantage if I live to bring back more dollars later.
Of course, I have to be the source of those dollars. When I am not the source of the dollars I become a cost.
Cost of business or customer. I choose customer.

Its hard to believe that Pelosi will go the Unconstitutional route of deeming this bill passed without the House voting on it. It seems to me that there is a game of chicken going on in order to make this bill look like more than a stinking corpse.
Stupak said they want this thing over. If they had the votes this would be a done deal. Obama is driving them all mad but in the end will they give up their careers to promote his Presidency? Seems like they have given Obama a deadline. Was it only 1 month ago when Pelosi said she would not take up this Healthcare Bill again because her people didn’t want it. And Harry Reid said its about jobs now and he didn’t know when if ever he would take this up again. So what’s changed? Not a damn thing.
If you read some of the stories out there — this thing is all over the map but the only thing thats consistant is that they don’t have the votes.

Whenever I see white Americans decrying abortion, and demanding its restriction or outright ban, I always have to ask: why do you want America to become a 3rd world country? Because without abortion, that’s exactly what would happen. Frankly, the legalization of abortion is the best thing that’s happened to this country in the past century. Without it, the brown hordes would out-breed and overwhelm us even faster than they already are. In the absence of a natural predator, there is no check on the uncontrolled growth of the population of the human animal, and this is exacerbated by the unnaturally high birth rates of blacks and Mexican immigrants. Additionally, abortion is humane and doesn’t involve the abrogation of the rights of the individual, as population control schemes often have in the past (Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia, et al); nobody is being carried off to concentration or work camps, there are no death squads roaming the streets, nobody is being sterilized against their will, etc. It’s soft eugenics. It is for this reason that I make a yearly financial contribution to Planned Parenthood, a fine organization for whom I have the utmost gratitude and respect.

Also, with the murder of this unborn person, the ultimate abridging of human rights has occurred. Simply because there is a “right” to kill this person, doesn’t make it ethical or moral.

I am in no way personally prejudiced against members of either of these groups, but the writing is on the wall: any city where the minority racial population or populations becomes the majority population completely goes to hell. I care more about America than I do about being politically correct and for this I make no apologies.
Major Kong: Save it. I’ve heard the propaganda a million times, and it makes no difference to me. Neither I, nor any rational person, am willing to accept the absurd premise that a fetus has any rights whatsoever while in utero. Is abortion unpleasant? Maybe. A lot of things are unpleasant, but we tolerate them because of the benefits they provide to our society. Find it offensive all you like, but when you can walk down Main Street in your town without getting robbed at gunpoint by the product of some welfare mother, just know that legalized abortion is partially to thank.

Well, lets take that to its logical conclusions:
1) Old people cost money since they’re no longer contributing to the collective.
2) People with long-term illnesses cost money.
3) People who have been consigned to generational welfare through misguided feel-good social programs cost money.
4) People who legitimately cannot care and support themselves cost money.
5) Children abandoned or ill-treated cost money
Yeah, some utopia the so-called progressives envision for us alright.
