The top Taliban military commander was captured this month in Karachi, Pakistan.
The New York Times reported:

The Taliban’s top military commander was captured several days ago in Karachi, Pakistan, in a secret joint operation by Pakistani and American intelligence forces, according to American government officials.

The commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, is an Afghan described by American officials as the most significant Taliban figure to be detained since the American-led war in Afghanistan started more than eight years ago. He ranks second in influence only to Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban’s founder and a close associate of Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks.

Mullah Baradar has been in Pakistani custody for several days, with American and Pakistani intelligence officials both taking part in interrogations, according to the officials.

It was unclear whether he was talking, but the officials said his capture had provided a window into the Taliban and could lead to other senior officials. Most immediately, they hope he will provide the whereabouts of Mullah Omar, the one-eyed cleric who is the group’s spiritual leader.

Of course, the far left nuts are already worried about Mullah Baradar’s well-being.

  1. I hope to Allah that somebody reads him his rights and gives him an attorney as soon as possible. This is a guy really needs the Constitution right now.

  2. NeoKong,

I would prefer if they would dispatch him to meet his 72 virgins….that was very politically correct of me was it?

  3. I hope the Pakistanis are dealing with him. Our guys’ morale is too low. What with the CIA prosecutions and all.

  4. I hope someone has the sense to kill him before Obambi and Holder have a chance to read him OUR rights.!!

  5. ADVERTISEMENT

  6. Please don’t waterboard him. That would be wrong.

  7. You’re right gus, water is precious in that part of the world. Bullets on the other hand are plentiful. Or, perhaps we should respect their customs and saw his head off with……oh, I don’r know….a shoelace???

  8. #3

Funny how one of Obama-mao’s first official acts was to go after the CIA…Yet, his first official interaction with a terrorist was to have his rights read to him…I think our President is doing gods work as written by the Koooooraaahnn…Peace be with him…

  9. The guy ought to be tortured like this: http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/201008.php. He’d break in a minute. Let the torture happen in Walmart, in the candy aisle, and the guy will spill the beans and be psychologically wrecked for life.

  10. If it’s the Pakis who are interrogating him then Mullah Baradar needs to be very concerned about far-left nuts. His right one too.

  11. Meanwhile, as Jim pointed out, Spencer Ackerman is terribly fearful that this man who would slit your throat in a New York second might be treated poorly!

Now. The question of the hour. Where you gonna’ hold him, Mr. President??? I hear some idiot closed Gitmo, so that’s out.

Oh! You’re going to let Eric Holder decide, huh?

    Yeah, I guess it’s hot.

  12. I think our boys should just stand back and let the Pakistanis “interrogate” him. There was an obscure cable show on about 10 years ago called “Karachi Cops”, and those guys were unbelievably brutal on people just accused (hearsay) of petty crimes. What they will do to a high value target would be unspeakable, but probably fun to watch.

  13. Let’s hope no one has read him his rights yet!

  14. This representative of the religion of peace will, I am sure, be afforded every possible courtesy. I hear the consierge service we have will treat him with the ultimate interrogation experience…

  15. And in related news…
    http://hotair.com/archives/2010/02/15/report-obama-considering-indefinite-detention-of-terrorists-without-trial/

Isn’t this the sort of thing that used to get the left’s panties in a twist when W was president?

  16. I’m surprised the Obummer Kool-Aid drinkers aren’t bragging about a success in the WOT.

Oops, sorry, for a second there I forgot who we’re talking about. We should be expecting to see websites demanding we “Free Mullah Baradar” in three… two… one….

  17. God bless our brave military and God bless President George W. Bush, the greatest president in american history.

  18. Will he be given a lawyer now?

  19. This is a great victory for us. I would waterboard the sh*t out of him. And thats a bare minimum.

    http://www.hackwilson.blogspot.com

  20. Who wants to bet that this guy wasn’t Mirandized, oh the horror. What if anything is happening with that scum that shot up all those people at Fort Hood? They brought in the Fruit of the go booms parents in an effort to get him to co-operate.

Hey America you had enough yet, or do you actually want to wait until we lose maybe thousands of innocent women and children. Obama and Holder are DANGEROUS to life and limb, and to our way of life. They have to go, Holder right now, and Obama as soon as possible. Jail is too good for these traitors.

  21. With all the retirements from the Senate, and house, one more resignation would be just beautiful. Obama resign, you know you want to, go ahead we will accept. Oh and take Sheriff Joe Biden with you.

  22. “i own the world” has the ultimate terror device
to encourage barader to spill the beans. visually disturbing warning……..
    http://iowntheworld.com/blog/?p=17031

  23. “It was unclear whether he was talking”

Well, I hope we said pretty please.

  24. learn what you can over the next few years. Then put a bullet in his head (recorded of course and send the tape to Aljizz)

  25. Have we run this by Eric Holder yet?

  26. Firedoglake actually states that if we “treat him respectfully”, he’ll reconsider his alliance with the Taliban. They are so blind as to not know his connection to AQ?

    RESPECTFULLY?

  27. Hey, I gots me a ideer: Why don’t we interrogate him on a “Pay-per-View” cable channel? Bet we could come close to balancing the debt this way. We could set an amount of money necessary to be pledged in order to waterboard him. “Come, on Americans! Just another Ten Million in pledges and it’s off to the bathtub for ole Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar!” The advertising revenues probably could fund GITMO for another ten years! OMG, let’s do it!

  28. 0bama:

Like my friends at the Huffpo, I am worried about Mullah Baradar’s well being. So, I have sent Eric Holder and 57 ACLU lawyers to Pakistan to give him aid and comfort.

If that doesn’t keep the underwear off of his head then I will exchange him for some prisoners – as soon as some people get taken hostage is New York.

My limousine is running and I have a date with Barney Frank. I must look busy. Good Day.

  29. When will Republicans concede that they have no clue how to fight terrorism? For 8 years all we were getting were some local commanders that were always presented as a huge deal and later turned out to be nobody. It took Obama in office to get a big fish. And all the right can talk about is Miranda rights? I guess conservatives really do hate American constitution. So then just say and more to China.

  30. Goodbye, First Things. I miss Fr. Neuhaus.

  31. Did you pro-torture folks ever consider the possibility that some of these governments were reluctant to cooperate BECAUSE of torture? It’s one thing for Muslims to be abusive to one another, but for them to hand over one of their own to the United States to be tortured is bad PR.

If you thought strategically for a second instead of drooling with blood lust you’d see the advantages of treating captured people humanely. Namely, no one fears handing over their countrymen/family members to you.

  32. It is very confusing when conservatives, who are supposed to be the guardians of liberty, are willing to shred Constitution just to save some lives. It is amazing how small minded conservatives have become. And what is shocking is how much conservatives trust power agencies to do the right thing. I guess if they were in USSR, KGB would be their biggest friend. Upside down.

  33. You guys should have done this when you were in charge. Then you could have tortured him for awhile and then killed him.

  34. ++

    did they MIRANDIZE him??

    ==

  35. BO is going nuts. His good buddy is in the hands of interrogators. What foul treatment will his friend undergo without 33 doj lawyers(socialist woos) at his side to protect his rights under the Constitution.

  36. Oooh, yah. Torture is so productive.
It’s one of the core American values, according to George Washington, right?

    oh no!!

    we even “torture’ our own!!

[The 2002 memo specifically said the U.S. Navy still uses waterboarding during SERE training but that other military branches have stopped using the technique.

    [..]

A Justice Department memo of May 30, 2005, released by the Obama administration, revealed that the CIA, in waterboarding al Qaeda leader Khalid Sheik Mohammed, was able to gather information that allowed the U.S. government to stop a 9/11-type attack on Los Angeles.]

btw, KSM was water boarded 3 times & survived, only to find a benefactor in Mubarack Hussein Obama who for all intent & purpose, is using KSM to put NYC on trial..

Only Three Have Been Waterboarded by CIA

[For all the debate over waterboarding, it has been used on only three al Qaeda figures, according to current and former U.S. intelligence officials.

As ABC News first reported in September, waterboarding has not been used since 2003 and has been specifically prohibited since Gen. Michael Hayden took over as CIA director.

    [..]

A CIA spokesman said, as a matter of policy, he would decline to comment on interrogation techniques, “which have been and continue to be lawful,” he said.]

that waterboarding is “torture” is an opinion..

    sarc on/

this “torture” was condoned by ALL, as were these atrocious acts.. bet they wished they could have been tortured by waterboarding, oh yes, oh yes i do..

we are bad, bad, bad, people for stopping this monster, yes we are , we are, we are.. but not to worry, no one will be around to stop the “torturing” of future generations around the globe, as all the appeasers will be dead.. then victory will be theirs, yeah-men!!

And just what makes you believe that an enemy combatant, not in uniform, not an American citizen, taken in a foreign country and not on American soil deserves any American Constitutional rights?

According to international law (and the Geneva Convention – which we are NOT bound to obey), an enemy taken without a uniform or identifying and easily observable insignia is considered a spy or a terrorist — and can be put to death by the on-scene commander without a trial.
I’d say the guy was getting off pretty easily if *all* that happens to him is a bit of waterboarding. (I doubt that the Pakis will limit themselves to something so benign, though)

You leftists are really amazing. You think you’re kept safe in America by some sort of magic. That magical unicorns protect you from the evil that others would visit upon you. That your rights, freedom and safety don’t have to be fought for constantly.

“We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.” (Orwell)

no one in their right mind ‘wants war’,
least of all those who must fight them..

    Is It Right to Fight?

[One other point, if everyone was a pacifist except the evil and lawbreakers of the world, then the world would be run by evil
dictators or our society would be anarchy.

Pacifism in its fullest sense is untenable in the sinful world in which we live.

    [..]

The subject “Is it right to fight?” is a difficult issue because it makes us face the awful issues of a suppressive dictatorship, evil aggression, killing and death on the one hand and the “necessary evil” of war to stop it. [..]

Remember, it is possible to love your enemies and use force against him. The principle that love is embraced in laws of justice helps us see that loving one’s enemy is to make sure that justice prevails. In doing so, the Christian is also demonstrating “love for the ones his enemy has hurt.”]

however, no one in their right mind supports
    tyrannical dictatorships that threaten global
peace (which is a given), condone genocide,
or proffer off of oppressing their own people
    either..

TORTURE ME THIS YOU DEAF DUMB BLIND
    HATE MONGERING BDS SUFFERERS, GAH!!

    I crucified people

[In an exclusive interview with The Telegraph, he reveals for the first time the full horror of what has been happening in the name of religion in Afghanistan. Mr Hassani has the pinched face and restless hands of a man whose night hours are as haunted as any of his victims. Now aged 30, he does not, however, fit the militant Islamic stereotype usually associated with the Taliban.

    [..]

“Like many people, I did not become a Talib by choice,” he explained. “In early 1998 I was working as an accountant here in Quetta when I heard that my grandfather – who was 85 – had been arrested by the Taliban in Kandahar and was being badly beaten. They would only release him if he provided a member of his family as a conscript, so I had to go.”

    [..]

So he became a Taliban “volunteer”, assigned to the secret police. Many of his friends also joined up as land owners in Kandahar were threatened that they must either ally themselves with the Taliban or lose their property. Others were bribed to join with money given to the Taliban by drug smugglers, as Afghanistan became the world’s largest producer of heroin.

    [..]

The state of terror spread by the Taliban was so pervasive that it began to seem as if the whole country was spying on each other. “As we drove around at night with our guns, local people would come to us and say there’s someone watching a video in this house or some men playing cards in that house,” he said.

“Basically any form of pleasure was outlawed,” Mr Hassani said, “and if we found people doing any of these things we would beat them with staves soaked in water – like a knife cutting through meat – until the room ran with their blood or their spines snapped. Then we would leave them with no food or water in rooms filled with insects until they died.

“We always tried to do different things: we would put some of them standing on their heads to sleep, hang others upside down with their legs tied together. We would stretch the arms out of others and nail them to posts like crucifixions.

“Sometimes we would throw bread to them to make them crawl. Then I would write the report to our commanding officer so he could see how innovative we had been.”

    [..]

“I think many in the Taliban would like to escape. The country is starving and joining is the only way to get food and keep your land. Otherwise there is a lot of hatred. I hate both what it does and what it turned me into.”]

  45. Solartov, why do you say we aren’t bound to obey the Geneva Convention? Do you mean in this particular case or in general?

  46. I laugh at the lefties who compare Shoe Bomber with the Undies Bomber. First, unfortunately, the Shoe Bomber was a US citizen and actually has some rights. He was also tried when the military tribunals were not yet set up. The Undies Bomber should not be allowed the same rights as a US citizen when he was trying to kill US citizens.

How hard is that to understand?

  47. I heard this morning that this most recent guy was captured around 10 days ago. So, I assume they have gotten a lot of info out of him so now they are letting the public know he is singing like a bird. Smart thinking on the CIA’s part.

  48. Pat the First, Richard Reid was NOT a U.S. citizen.

  49. Tom

I stand corrected. However, the second part of the argument is correct.

  50. You mean the part about how the U.S. successfully prosecuted Richard Reid in a civilian court? Yes, that’s correct, but I’m not sure it shows that civilian trials won’t work with terror suspects.

  51. Dear Terrorist,

Turn around, bend over. Uncle Obama wants to kiss your a$$.

It is such a disgrace that our Commander in Chief does not allow the military to do their jobs.

Drop the charges against the SEALs!

    Great Job, Military!
