Here we go… Thousands of protesters turned out in Oslo to protest a cartoon published in a local newspaper that showed Mohammad as a pig.
FOX News reported:

About 2,500 people marched through downtown Oslo in a protest Friday against a Norwegian newspaper that printed a caricature of the Prophet Muhammad.

The demonstrators chanted “God is great” in Arabic and waved placards calling for a boycott of the Dagbladet daily.

On Feb. 3, the newspaper published a photograph showing a man in front of a computer screen with a depiction of Muhammad as a pig. The picture accompanied an article that said users were posting offensive material about Muslims and Jews on the Facebook page of Norway’s security police.

Dagbladet’s acting editor-in-chief, Lars Helle, told The Associated Press that he doesn’t regret printing the offending image and that he welcomed Friday’s protest.

“It was a test for Norwegian society — whether this would be a peaceful protest or not,” Helle said.

The Brussels Journal has much more on the offensive pig cartoon.

Last week-end, almost a thousand taxi drivers in the Norwegian capital Oslo and neighboring municipality Bærum went on what could be called a religious strike. Both on Friday evening and Monday morning, Muslim taxi drivers refused to drive in protest against Wednesday’s front page of the Norwegian tabloid paper Dagbladet. That day, the tabloid ran an article about some of the “dangerous” pages the website of the Norwegian security service PST links to, and illustrated that with a screen shot of a cartoon showing the prophet Muhammad as a pig trampling the Qur’an…

…The cartoon that Dagbladet used on its front page resulted in mass demonstrations, the burning of flags, and probably a suicide attack back in 1997, when a Russian immigrant in Israel, the then 28 year old Tatiana Soskin, had put it up all over Hebron. She had to appear in court, and was later sentenced to two years in prison. Lars Helle seemed not to be aware of the fact that it was the very same cartoon that he had put on his front page that caused the mass demonstrations in Hebron in 1997.

  1. I thought the Norwegian’s where all girlymen, but they seem to be more manly than the Obama administration.

Maybe the Norwegian’s should stop taking taxi’s and just use the bus. They have power if they wish to exercise it.

  2. Tell the Muslims to show up at Vancouver and use a sports duel to take out their agression and show who is strong.

  3. Actually, it’s not “allah is great”, it’s “allah is greater”. No, I refuse to say “god is great” to begin with, because the mohammedan god is not the same god as the Christian or Jewish. It’s a bloodthirsty idol.

Those 2,500 “protestors” should have been arrested and deported.

Send them back to Whatever-stan they come from.

  4. It’s always amusing to note that Muslims have made depictions and art of Mohammed in the past. It’s right for me, but not for thee…

That said, the retort would be that it’s not right to insult the prophet, but the overarching excuse given is about idolatry, which the historical artwork disproves. And as for insulting the prophet… this is the west with at least some modicum of free speech, not an Islamic theocracy ruled by Sharia.

  5. Wonderful!

  6. The cartoon is offensive, and the publisher is an idiot for printing it. Still, the Zeropeans have a big problem on their hands. They’ve got an invader in their midst that beleives it can disobey or disregard the laws and norms of the host society as it chooses. There are bloody days ahead for Zeropa.

And with leftist dopes running the White House, Congress, and academia, the same will eventually happen here.

  7. The pigs should be the ones who are offended.

  8. Further in the article one of the muslim protesters said:

“We have done nothing to anybody. We want to live here in peace.”

Bwahahahaha! What liars these people are. Terrorism around the globe and they still insist they haven’t done anything to deserve to be mocked.

  9. Muhammad didn’t forbid his own depiction out of modesty or humility.

Muhammad was an incredible ugly man, due to acromegaly. He was arrogant and vain – THAT is why he forbade images of himself.

  10. This is so typical of the things that divide us. The incitement of manufactured public outrage will continue to keep up apart. PC must die.
Will crayons be outlawed too http://wp.me/pLGBN-4a
How long will we ignore the hatemongers that dwell among us inciting rage & anger? These very same issues are preached in our country daily. Daily we are forced to comply in order to appease those that will never be appeased.
We need to get our own house in order.

  11. In Sweden, a Muslim man refused to shake the hand of a a female CEO — and was awarded 60,000 kr ($8,000) for being discriminated against. Religious discrimination against him, the court said. He did not get the job, you see. (The Local, Stockholm, Feb 8) http://www.thelocal.se/24862/20100208/
    A joke? Unfortunately not.

  12. If I were a Muslim I would be a THOUSAND times more offended by this cartoon than by the one where Mohammed’s turban is a bomb.

I hate Islam with a passion, but if you’re going to incur death threats, you ought to incur them by proving why Islam is delusional, not by printing offensive and crude cartoons that are on the intellectual level of a 10-year-old, and that exemplify the same aesthetic as the old Nazi cartoons demonizing the Jews.

Even though Muhammad was–and you can prove this from the historical record–a rapist, murderer, pedophile, thief and enslaver, depicting him as a pig, when you know full well that pigs are THE most offensive animal to a Muslim mind…. that is just WRONG. Plus, you’re asking for trouble.

I’m not for censorship–but why was that media outlet so eager to deliberately poke people in the eye? I think they were wrong to run it. I hate Islam, I hate Mohammed, I hate all the sick things Muslims do, and I denounce ahead of time any violence they may carry out in protest against this–but in this instance, I do completely empathize with their being offended.

Perhaps I empathize because I’m a Catholic, and heaven knows there sure have been some outrageously sick and offensive cartoons, movies, stand-up comedy routines, TV shows, art exhibits, songs, books, etc., etc., out there blaspheming my religion. While I would never outlaw these things, they certainly do lower my opinion of the people who produce and condone them. Such people are obviously hostile to my deepest convictions, but they don’t have the courage or the intellect to engage me on actual points of disagreement, but instead take the weaselly, adolescent approach of simply hurling insults and ad hominem attacks at me.

    It’s unnecessary and counterproductive.

i understand, and two wrongs don’t make a right, yada, yada yada, however, how many despicable Muslim cartoon depictions of Jews
or Christians gets Muslims slaughtered, their property destroyed, Churches/Synogogs burned to the ground, etc, etc, etc??

btw, not everyone is a Catholic/Christian, as a matter of fact, since bin Laden mentioned them by name in one of his Holy War Declarations, i dare say Atheists may very well be #1 on their infidel list..

  18. Nothing to see here. Muhammad is a pig.

  19. Kathy from Kansas: just keep on being tolerant and understanding of islam ,dear. The muslim madmen are doing their very best to kill you in your bed as you sleep and yet you don’t resist, and indeed enable them. That’s NOT tolerance, that’s suicide. I guess some people have truly forgotten the lessons of Sept 11. Indeed, some never learned. The rest of us must defend these clueless people even as we are attacked and called intolerant, racist, islamophobes by them. They seem to believe this makes them morally superior.

  20. Nadadhimmi,

I’m bemused at your thinking that I am defending or tolerating Islam! Ah, if you only knew…. I have given money to Geert Wilders’ legal defense fund, to David Horowitz’s many efforts, to Rivka Bary’s defense fund, and I’m pretty sure I’m one of the biggest gentile donors to Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, American Friends of Magen David Adom, the World Jewish Congress, etc.

This is not to boast, but just to communicate to you how wrong you are in thinking I in any way condone or tolerate Islam. You cannot begin to fathom how deep is my hatred of the cult of Islam–especially because I am a WOMAN, and especially because I LOVE so much the Hebrew and Christian Bible.

I tried a couple times to read the Qur’an, and just had to give up because it made me so angry. It’s as if someone took the Holy Bible, ripped out 90 percent of its pages, then took what remained and shredded it into pieces, then taped and glued the pieces back together in haphazard order, inserting Muhammad’s own perversions, hypocrisy and diabolical wiliness into it as he went.

My post was only to make the point that depicting Muhammad as a pig is needlessly provocative to people who already want to murder us all–and it just reminds me too damn much of the VERY SAME IMAGERY (i.e., swine) THAT THE NAZIS USED TO DEMONIZE THE JEWS. Screw that s**t.

As I said, fight Islam–fight it to the death!–but with REASONED, factual arguments, not with hateful, juvenile cartoons.

bg, you know I’m a fan of your comments on this blog, but I think you, too, missed my point. I only mentioned my being Catholic to communicate that I can UNDERSTAND from personal experience how deeply people are offended when people make ugly, silly caricatures of their religion instead of making REASONED arguments.

I have many stories about Eastern Orthodox Christians who have been martyred by Muslims over the centuries for refusing to renounce Jesus Christ and embrace Muhammad. It’s pretty chilling to read about the decapitations, crucifixions, stonings, being buried alive, etc., etc. I would hope that if it ever came to that, I would be willing and ready to be as brave and steadfast as those saints. But if I had to die at the hands of Muslims, I would hope that it would be because I witnessed to the Truth, not because I distributed cartoons that were base, stupid, childish and ugly.

it really doesn’t matter to me what you are,
heck, i was going to be a Nun, go figure.. :-)

which is why i opened my post with [i understand,

btw, there is no such thing as “reasoned arguments” in Islam..

Islam refuses debate, else Islam would be the only religion to
disappear off the face of the planet faster than Obama’s pop..
