Last year on February 27, 1,500 protesters braved the cold (in the 30’s) and wind to hold a tea party rally at the St. Louis Arch.

Bill Hennessey organized the first successful St. Louis tea party rally. And, we all know the rest of the story. Since that time there have been hundreds of anti-Big Government, anti-spending rallies across the country with hundreds of thousands of protesters. This weekend the St. Louis Tea Party Coalition is holding an Anniversary Tea Party at the St. Louis Arch.

St. Louis Tea Party Celebrates One Year Anniversary

The St. Louis Tea Party will celebrate the one year anniversary of the tea party movement on Saturday, February 27 at 1:30 p.m. on the steps of the Arch.

One year ago that day in cities across the country Americans answered Rick Santelli’s call to protest against excessive taxes, wasteful spending, and irresponsible government. Fifteen-hundred citizens stood under the Arch and the St. Louis Tea Party was born.

Since that time the St. Louis Tea Party has emerged as one of the preeminent and most active tea party organizations. Their April 15, 2009 Tax Day Tea Party drew 10,000 people to Keiner Plaza; area tea partiers have participated in town halls, various rallies, have organized petitions and “buycotts.” The tea party movement is credited for victories in New Jersey, Virginia, Massachusetts, New York’s 23rd district, and stalled such government grabs as a faulty health care reform bill and cap-and-trade.

The St. Louis Tea Party will start promptly at 1:30 p.m. and end at 2:30 p.m., rain or shine. Participants will hear from a small group of speakers before dumping tea leaves (please remove from, and properly dispose of, all bags) into the Mississippi River. No pitchforks. Signs cannot have sticks/poles. Parking is available on the cobblestone for $4 or attendees can use Arch parking. More information can be found at www.stlouisteaparty.com.

Hope to see you there!

  1. Tea party organizers should take heed in their planning. The current regime is in fact training reserve/national guard troops to put down the ‘expected’ riots by Tea Partiers in D.C. It looks like the O’Dumbo communist are planning to institute a riot so O’Dumbo can blame it on the Tea Party. Streight from the mouth of a young man who had just returned from a training session and he stated it (training) was to put down the coming Tea Party riots. Following the footsteps of Castro/Chavez should be grounds for the democrats (the few with a brain) to remove their dear leader, he’s including them in his Marxist takeover plans.

  2. Ever hear of OathKeepers? The U.S. Military has the right to refuse an unlawfull order. We are not Cubans or Venezuleans. I’ll be their Saturday.

  3. Can’t wait to see everyone down there Saturday! We had around 1500 or so under the arch last year. Let’s shoot for 15000 or so this year!

  4. It will be interesting to see how many show up one year later. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are at least one or two journalists or reporters who show up – if not liberal bloggers – just to check and see if there is a decrease. If there is a notable decline, you can be sure that the msm and liberal blogs will pick up on that and run with it. Of course, you’ll probably be ignored if the anniversary turnout is about equal to or much higher than last year.

  5. I’ll be there! I’m looking forward to hearing speeches and meeting fellow lovers of liberty!
