Barack Obama congratulated the athletes who participated in the Olympic Games today during his Weekly Address. Then he immediately pressed Republicans to use that indomitable Olympic spirit to ram Obamacare through Congress.
WhiteHouse.gov reported:

As the Winter Olympics draw to a close this weekend, I just want to take a minute to congratulate all the athletes who competed in these games. And I especially want to say how proud I am of all the American men and women have achieved over the last few weeks…

…The indomitable Olympic spirit that says no matter who you are or where you come from or what difficulties you may face, you can work hard and train hard and still triumph in the end. That is why we watch. That is why we cheer. That is why in the middle of an extremely challenging time for America, we’ve been able to come together as one nation for a few weeks in February and swell with pride at what our citizens have achieved.

Now, when it comes to meeting the larger challenges we face as a nation, I realize that finding this unity is easier said than done – especially in Washington. But if we want to compete on the world stage as well as we’ve competed in the world’s games, we need to find common ground. We need to move past the bickering and the game-playing that holds us back and blocks progress for the American people…

We need that same spirit of cooperation and bipartisanship when it comes to finally passing reform that will bring down the cost of health care and give Americans more control over their insurance. On Thursday, we brought both parties together for a frank and productive discussion about this issue. In that discussion, we heard many areas of agreement. Both sides agreed that the rising cost of health care is a serious problem that plagues families, small businesses, and our federal budget…

no final bill will include everything that everyone wants. That’s what compromise is. I said at the end of Thursday’s summit that I am eager and willing to move forward with members of both parties on health care if the other side is serious about coming together to resolve our differences and get this done. But I also believe that we cannot lose the opportunity to meet this challenge. The tens of millions of men and women who cannot afford their health insurance cannot wait another generation for us to act. Small businesses cannot wait. Americans with pre-existing conditions cannot wait. State and federal budgets cannot sustain these rising costs.

It is time for us to come together. It is time for us to act. It is time for those of us in Washington to live up to our responsibilities to the American people and to future generations. So let’s get this done.

Thanks for listening.

Let’s get this done = Let’s ram it through.

The AP added this on Obama’s message:

Obama and the Democrats reject the piecemeal approach sought by Republicans and have no intention of scrapping their 10-year, $1 trillion bill and starting over, as the GOP demands.

  1. Hope all republicans vote against this bill until there are serious public/media coverage, so everyone is on the same page. It is basically a government powergrab.

  2. There has not been a SINGLE Democratic Party compromise of ANY kind in this bill. Not a shred of “bipartisanship” from the (D) side. Any initial apparent “compromises” were dumped as soon as the cameras went off, so it was just for press play only. It’s been 100%, “I won, sod off.”

There it is again, blame the Republicans for no “bipartisanship.” “No one gets everything they want” is bunk. Obama’s got EVERYTHING he wants. It’s more draconian than the House and Senate bills. Not a tone down ANYWHERE.

  3. Can Obama not handle more than one thing at a time? It is healthcare all the time! WHAT ABOUT ALL THE OUT OF WORK AMERICANS? What about the homeless families? What about the seniors who did not get a cost of living increase this year but GM got billions! What about the corruptions that is filling the halls of congress with it’s infective slug? What about Rangel and the other office holding tax cheats? Huh? What about all that! What about the bank failures? I could go on but Dr. O can only handle healthcare and polish his teleprompter! LORD HELP US!

  4. Things that make you go “Huh?” for $200, Alex:

“…no matter who you are or where you come from or what difficulties you may face, you can work hard and train hard and still triumph in the end.”

  5. Elected officials are suppose to do the will of the people – the people are not suppose to submit to the will of elected officials.

  6. :) ))))) let’s use the spirit of the dead Kennedy governor to ram through the Healthcare system, let the Olympic spirit ram it through, let the spirit o me being tall, handsome and black ram through the HC.
:) )) Your president is sweet. Gotta live how smart this guy thinks he is and how an idiot he keeps making of himself

  7. The unipartisan regime is back on message.

Well, so are the American people back on message – We don’t want death panels, rationing, misery, and excessive taxation in the name of goverment contol of healthcare.

This is not reform, it is eugenics, as I said several month’s ago months ago at a McCaskill
    town hall.

Now it is up to us to “pour it on” to keep this from passing.

  8. Obummer’s clearly got a one-track mind, and not much of that!!
    .

  9. Obama is so tenacious you’d almost think he was an extreme left wing socialist using Alinsky tactics.

  10. Somehow, whenever I now see the President speak, it always sounds like Charlie Brown’s teacher. Particularly when he’s upset.

I think it is intentional. He really doesn’t want anyone to pay attention.

  11. As for the “Rah-rah, let’s pull together like the Olympic Team and Gitter Done” segue of his speech, it stinks.

As for the rest of his speech about forcing socialized medicine on us, BO stinks.

  14. BHO and the DEMOCRAPS can go take a flying fig on a rolling donut.

  15. No, LytnUp, he doesn’t really sound like that. That’s one of your self-preservation mechanisms at work. What’s happening is that when your eyes see Obamao open his mouth to speak, your eyes send that message to your brain. Your brain, in turn, sends a command to your ears to temporarily disengage the ability to distinguish any sounds that your brain recognizes to be a lanuguage or form of human communication. Once the eyes send the message to the brain that Obamao has ceased speaking, normal hearing function is restored to the ears by the brain. The way the human brain protects itself from lethal overdoses of stupidity and bullsh!t is truly miraculous.

  18. All Right! One more time from the top, and let’s do it with some spirit this time.

  19. I wrote both my Senators and my Congressman, Democrats all. I hope everybody else is doing so, as well.

With 80% of our population already enjoying the best health care system in the world, the problem of covering the last 20% should not be a matter of upending the entire system in favor of imitating other countries’ failures.

The Republicans’ approach of incremental improvement designed to preserve the strengths of the system we already have, is better than the sweeping mess currently before Congress.

  20. I doubt the spirit animating US or any atheletes at Vancouver has anything to do with marxist economics or public policy. I suspect if you took a poll up there, it would come back worse for Obama than even the Politico poll, which shows Reps winning the “summit by a 2:1 margin over Bama’s Nightmare Team.

Another example of Obama pretending to be something he isn’t. He can’t throw a baseball. What would he know about “Olympic spirit”?

He is so insular and ignorant he has no idea how little he really knows.

  21. He still doesn’t get it. Bipartisan doesn’t mean…one party drafts a bill by itself and then the other party, to show ‘bipartisanship’, kneels down and shines the chosen one’s shoes while thanking him for the honor of being able to sign such a magnificent piece of legislation.

  22. Obama may want to steer clear of all things Olympic.

  23. Olympics. Okay. If Obama wants to evoke it, here we go: This year it started with a luge player who started down a slippery slope, which the Olympic designers actually KNEW was too fast and didn’t TELL anyone, spun out of control, off the track and was killed when he hit a pole.

Pretty much a metaphor for what the Democrats are proposing for the public in ObamaCare.

  24. Yes Republicans join the Democrats on the Unemployment line in November. Think how much better you’ll having helped Obama get what he wants. rrrrrrrrrh

  25. Is nothing sacred? Will Obama use Easter Sunday the day of Christ’s Resurrection to sell his Healthcare Bill? Let me be Resurrected in the polls by passing my Healthcare Bill this Easter Sunday.

  26. #15

Phew! For a minute I thought something was really wrong with me. Thanks for clearing that up.

  27. Does this have anything to do with that emergency shipment of condoms I heard about on Drudge? But those were going to Canada. We’ll be needing them here.

  28. Erica Werner’s tilt in her AP report is subtle by AP standards, but it’s there, not only in the “piecemeal” reference, but also in other chosen words: “ready to compromise with Republicans if they are serious about it,” “year of corrosive debate,” and “overhaul.”

The AP reported on the “summit,” but managed to avoid any reference to the criticisms of the alleged “overhaul” made by Rep. Paul Ryan and other Republicans.

I have argued with zero success for greater attention to the AP on the part of the guys at Power Line, the staff at Media Research Center, the Washington Examiner, and, in the past, National Review. Perhaps taking apart the AP is bad form, for whatever reason. But outside the biggest of the metro areas, the AP has enormous influence. And it tilts overwhelmingly to the political and social left.

  33. Obama job approval is at an all-time low of 43% and his job approval index is at minus 21, matching alltime low, according to Rasmussen poll of likely voters. Opposition to healthcare was obviously strengthened by the televised “summit”…but little note is made of this is news outlets…

  34. I’m living for the day that the only thing the dims in Congress can pass is gas!

  35. I’m curious about the reconciliation process … first, they pass the “Senate Bill,” then, they pass the “reconciliation.”

Exactly what happens if they pass the “Senate Bill” but “reconciliation” fails ?

Doesn’t this possibility open the door for all kinds of “backroom deals” ?

Wouldn’t this make the election even worse for Democrats ?
