This was definitely not the answer Bill O’Reilly was expecting…
Newt Gingrich tells Bill O’Reilly that Barack Obama is a socialist:
Bill O’Reilly: So the question becomes, “Is the president a socialist?” Let’s remember the definition of socialism that the government controls property and commerce. Does Mr. Obama want to seize your house? I say no others say yes but there’s no question the president wants income redistribution and more government control over things like health care… Talking Points believes the fed should have some oversight on health care companies but the price can be driven down if the companies are allowed to compete nationwide. Why doesn’t the president try that before he sets up another big brother operation in Washington? Look these things are complicated. To call Obama a socialist or communist is over-simplifying. Americans need health care relief. There’s no question about it. But, it can be done using competition in the free market place and common sense like tort reform where lawsuits against medical personnel are scrutinized.
As we said last week, name-calling gets us no where. Good solutions to complicated problems will rule the day. Or, am I wrong? And, that’s a memo and now for the top story, joining us from Washington FOX News analyst Newt Gingrich. He has a free newsletter that you can sign up for at Newt.org. So do you think President Obama’s a socialist?
Newt Gingrich: Sure. Of course he is.

Bill O has a problem looming. It’s called ratings. Hannity’s ratings are climbing; Greta’s ratings are strong; Beck’s ratings are through the roof, and SP will put a spike in the ratings mix when she starts appearing on a regular basis. The “man”, himself – so very used to being #1 – may not even be #1 on his own network, say nothing of the rest of the cable world.
Personally, I can only handle so much of Bill’s smug, know-it-all attitude.

If Bill O’Reilly were a politician he would be a big government republican not hesitating to throw his weight or federal power at any cause he deemed fit.
Watch him long enough (in my case years) and you will notice that he rides the fence. He will wait and see what public opinion is and then alter his show’s themes to match.
Bill is also very ignorant and his staff is mediocre. Bill in tonight’s TP memo doubts Obama wants control over your house. He obviously didn’t read or bother to investigate the Cap and Trade bill which passed the house. The federal government’s reach would have extended into your home as you would have to have it inspected for green efficiency standards before selling it. If that’s not taking control of someone’s home I don’t know what is. Bill also doesn’t give a damn about the constitution. My home was built in Missouri and rests in Missouri. I purchased my home in Missouri. Under what interstate commerce clause does the federal government have any grounds to implement such measures.
wanumba commented:
O’Reilly is playing a semantics game. He’s pushing the idea that calling names is childish – which it is, but if someone is a “socialist” by the definiton of the term, then it isn’t name-calling, it’s correct nomenclature. He’s not separating “name-calling” from “naming.”
The Left has torqued the language and terms of debate so much that their cheap and inaccurate name-calling – “NAZIs” “fascists” and so forth is so insincere when the real thing comes along, the reaction is a dismissive “that’s stupid.”
It has almost destroyed debate in the USA and the world, and we’re close to the point of having people be literally unable to communicate with each other because they are using two different dictionaries for the same language.
All plays into the hands of the Progressive – rather Regressive Left.

Socialism allows personal effects to be private property: your furniture, your house, your bric-a-brac. It holds that the state should own everything else, especially businesses.

AlaskaHome1959 commented:
Name-calling gets us no where? There is an old saying: “The beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper name.” It is not wisdom to refuse to call socialism by it’s name, it is not wisdom to refuse to call a socialist by it’s name. To refuse to do so is foolishness. To belittle those who call things by their proper name is also foolishness.

Obama’s no socialist. Read Lenin’s first, second and third letters (March 7-26, 1917) and you’ll understand that he’s carefully following the path toward second revolution that his mentor Lenin prescribes.
The first step was ridding the nation of King George. Unfortunately, the system still exists (as do the capitalist Octobrists who brought Obama to power, including Soros, Progressive Chairman Peter Lewis, etc). but that’s what the second revolution is all about. ObamaCorps and other efforts already underway carry out mirror efforts to Lenin’s preparation for the second “October” revolution which finished the job and placed the Soviets into power.
While O’Reilly and others find the “socialism” tag objectionable, much more serious work is underway that will change this nation as we know it. Michelle’s been clear about what her husband brings. Who’s fault is it if we’re not listening?

Two possibilities here
1. O’Reily is ignorant and has a different definition of “socialism” than the rest of us.
2. O’Reilly is playing the semantics game the left uses which is essentially DENIAL BY NARROW OR OVERLY TECHNICAL DEFINITION.
IE Back in 1921 Trotsky said “blah, blah” and Lenin said “Blah blah blah” And therefore since Obama and friends don’t match up exactly (and how could they – since we are living in modern day USA) he is not a “Socialist”.

A better question for Gingrich would be when are you going to go on a world tour saying there is no global warming, that it’s the greatest crime of our lifetime. Then, when are you going to retire in shame to private life. Gingrich is an embarrassment, as is anyone who wrote a book supporting global warming. I have noticed lately that O’Reilly isn’t what he used to be. He now seems to be a shill for the Obama administration. He won’t let his guests talk – he talks over them. I love to hear the opinions of Dick Morris, but not on O’Reilly. He won’t let him get a sentence in to support his point of view. My advice: Just watch Hannity. He’s better anyway. Bye bye O’Reilly. You are no longer relevant to the conversation. Watch his ratings start sliding in the future.
Liz commented:
Yes, I saw this and thought surely O’Reilly must be feigning ignorance – acting. It seemed uncharacteristic of him pretending like that. Honestly, if Obama pushed any harder to take away private sector property he’d go to jail – and he still might. What part of “Socialist” doesn’t O’Reilly understand? Is he cool with the nuclear option threat of Obama’s too? Don’t tell me that Obamacare plan doesn’t take away our private rights AND private property.
Warren Bonesteel commented:
O’Reilly has become the Andrew Sullivan of TV and radio. The only thing he can do at this point is to say things that are so outrageous that the viewers keep coming back to hear what he’s going to say next. He has little to add to the political or social debate these days. His math works thusly: Viewers plus listeners equals ratings, which puts money in his pocket.
Keep watching. Keep listening. Keep putting money in little Billy’s cookie jar. …which is exactly what he wants you to do.
He doesn’t actually want you to change the political, social or economic equation in America. Not even a little bit.
He’d go broke.
LibertyReigns commented:
If anything Obama is more like a neocon like Bush than a socialist. Failed stimulus packages for the economy? Check. An unconstitutional war in Iraq and Afghanistan? Check. Continuing use of the greatest assault on liberty: The Patriot Act? Check. When you look at it closely, Obama and Bush are no different except that Obama has a darker skin tone. I’m no fan of Bill O’Rielly but Newt Gingrich is just an establishment republican, what he says doesn’t mean anything, all that I hear is bull.
Sheila commented:
BOR was entertaining and interesting back when FOX news first aired in the mid 1990s. He often pursued stories that are now routinely posted on the web. With the increase in competition from bloggers, Bill changed tactics and decided he was above it all. His extraordinary level of self esteem mirrors Obama’s; perhaps that’s why he admires him so much. As for the Harvard grad crap, Bill is pulling an Olbermann. I can’t remember were O’Reilly went undergrad, but he went to Harvard for a post-grad certification program – not a degree at all. None of this is relevant anyhow, unless a Harvard education is considered a sign of superior intelligence. Unless you are David Brooks, you shouldn’t give a damn.
