Glenn Beck mocks the kooks on MSNBC for insisting that the record snow we are experiencing out east this year is due to manmade global warming.

From the Glenn Beck Show:

MSNBC reporter: “The snowpolcolypse that is going through DC and other extreme events are precisely what the climate scientists have been predicting, fearing and anticipating, because of global warming. Why is that? The thinking that warmer air temperatures on the earth a higher air temperature has a greater capacity to hold moisture at any temperature. And that as winter comes in that warm air cools full of water and you get heavier precipitation on a regular basis. In fact, you can argue these storms are not evidence of a lack of global warming, but are evidence of global warming.”

Glenn Beck concludes: “I can’t understand why this program is beating them by 18 times.”

Hah.

MSNBC is not alone. TIME magazine today tried to push the same argument today.

  1. “Global Warming” would potentially increase the number and possibly the intensity of Nor’easter type storms, but they would be rain events, not snow events.

  2. How do you know that, crosspatch?

  3. There’s an obit today for the snake-oil salesman who convinced local stations to turn their news broadcasts into “Action News” entertainment back around 1970. Since then, news reporting has gone out the window, but even the entertainment that replaced it is bad. The male models and Barbie dolls of the media are mostly stupid, witless morons. I quit watching almost 40 years ago.

But these morons look like Edward R. Murrows when compared to the dopes on cable, especially on MSNBC.

  4. They’ll take a bullet to the head before they admit they were wrong.

    The Hurricane season was non-existant.

Regardless, the WORLD is not warmer.

    The Sky is not falling.

  6. False religions die hard.

Weather is weather. Climate is something else, for which we have sooooo little of an understanding. It never ceases to amaze me how these fanatics can twist any weather event (hot or cold) into man-made global warming.

Scientifically, Crosspatch is probably on the mark. MSNBC is not. We still know so little about all the mechanisms that contribute to cloud formation that it is absolute folly to attribute this weather event to man-made global warming.

  7. these agw alarmists can’t keep their stories straight.

does more warming cause more atmospheric h2o and more moisture and then cause more precip????

the fact is there is LESS atmospheric h2o now, not more as ratigan and brewer argue:

and some argue that this lower moisture has caused the cooling we’ve had since 1998 – (from a 1.28.10 article):

    http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/55762/title/Water_vapor_slowed_recent_global__warming_trend

Water vapor slowed recent global warming trend

Temperatures linked to unexplained decline in stratospheric moisture

    By Sid Perkins

    Web edition : Thursday, January 28th, 2010

A sudden and unexplained drop in the amount of water vapor present high in the atmosphere almost a decade ago has substantially slowed the rate of warming at Earth’s surface in recent years, scientists say.

In late 2000 and early 2001, concentrations of water vapor in a narrow slice of the lower stratosphere dropped by 0.5 parts per million, or about 10 percent, and have remained relatively stable since then. Because the decline was noted by several types of instruments, including some on satellites and others lofted on balloons, the sharp decrease is presumed to be real, says Karen Rosenlof, a meteorologist at NOAA’s Earth System Research Laboratory in Boulder, Colo.

And because water vapor is a powerful greenhouse gas, the decline has slowed the increase of global temperatures, Rosenlof, Susan Solomon, also of NOAA in Boulder, and their colleagues report online January 28 and in an upcoming Science.

  8. This is the same logic that claims spending as much money as possible will get you out of debt.

  9. What a bunch of dolts. The DC area averages around 18″ of snow for a winter season. The area is usually on the margin for significant snows because (wait for it) it is too warm, mostly due to the proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. This winter the usual winter precipitation is falling as snow because it is colder than average. So according to these fools, global warming must have resulted in colder conditions. They have truly jumped the shark.

  10. “How do you know that, crosspatch?”

A storm is basically a heat engine. If you have more heat, you have the potential for a more vigorous storm or storms forming when they might not otherwise had sufficient heat to get going.

But … snow requires temperatures below 32 degrees if it is to stick. Yes, it can snow when the temperature on the ground is above 32 but it doesn’t last long.

So if you have more heat, you have an increase in the possibility of a storm because you have an increase in convection. But you also reduce the probability that the temperature is below 32 degrees close enough to the ground to allow the precipitation to reach the ground as snow.

This year we have an interesting configuration with an el nino in the Pacific, a persistent high East of Greenland, and a persistent low over Canada.

Actually, the January global temperature anomaly was quite warm but nearly all of that was due to a el nino that has already begun to weaken. There really wasn’t much “global” about the warming.

Imagine this. You have a room of 10 people. Take their average height. Now take out the shortest one and put one in that is taller than all the rest. Take an average again. Your “global” average went up, but 9 of those people are no taller than they were before. A global average does not mean that it is warming globally. What the warmers would try to do with that scenario is to try to convince everyone that they are growing because the average went up, and then try to sell you bigger clothes after setting their kids up in the bigger clothes business!

  11. I guess we’re all too stupid to see that devasting snow storms are a result of global warming. Kind of like we’re a bunch of dumb*sses for not understanding the huge benefits related to the magnificent healthcare bill because it wasn’t explained to us at our level of intelligence. I feel like such an idiot….

  12. MSNBC Asshat alert!

  13. Progressive, opportunist reptiles

  14. Global warming is causing the atmosphere to retain more water? If this argument holds true, then we would also have more rain in the summer. However, all I ever hear from them is that global warming is going to cause extreme droughts! You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

  15. brings me back to people are too stupid to know they are stupid. lets keep playing 6 degrees of global warming. wait….isnt this bush’s fault.

  16. I want to hear from Bjorn Lomborg.

  17. Also, one other thing to note. The “global warming” everyone is talking about means that on average, across the entire globe, the global average annual temperature might be 1 degree warmer a century from now.

That does not mean that your daytime highs will be 1 degree warmer. Because of the way greenhouse gasses work, it will probably just mean it doesn’t get as cold at night. Greenhouse gasses also block infrared radiation from the sun in addition to infrared radiation from the ground. Daytime high temperatures won’t change much, it would be wintertime nighttime lows that would be expected to change, mostly at the poles where they have a very long period of night and very little water vapor in the air.

    But it isn’t happening.

  18. Thanks for the explanation, crosspatch.

How far from the East Coast did that storm originate? Could it be that warmth somewhere else generated the storm, and then the atmosphere drove it into a cold region?

  19. If you’re a democrat you really can have it both ways.

Breitbart TV looks back on Byrd, Boxer, Klobuchar blaming lack of snow on AGW

Earlier today, MS-NBC and Time Magazine tried to argue that the massive amounts of snow hitting the mid-Atlantic region somehow proves anthropogenic global-warming (AGW) theory, but it wasn’t that long ago that Democrats in Congress blamed AGW for the relative lack of snowfall in the same region, as well as in Minnesota. Breitbart TV and Naked Emperor News plays a Greatest Hits compendium of quotes from 2005 through 2008 from Senate Democrats Barbara Boxer, Robert Byrd, Amy Klobuchar, and Jay Inslee explaining that the lack of snow was predicted by the AGW climate models and represented an emergency requiring immediate action by the federal government:

    http://hotair.com/archives/2010/02/10/breitbart-tv-looks-back-on-byrd-boxer-klobuchar-blaming-lack-of-snow-on-agw/

  20. “Global warming is causing the atmosphere to retain more water?”

A warmer atmosphere will hold more water than a cooler atmosphere. It takes more water to create 35% absolute humidity at 100 degrees than it does at 50 degrees. That is why when your furnace warms up the air in your house it will get dry.

BUT the actual impact of that added water is unknown because if you also add more water vapor, you add more clouds which reflect a lot of solar radiation.

Nobody has decided if it is a negative or a positive feedback and none of the climate models include clouds.

  21. Be wary of conflating weather with climate.

    They are two different things.

If you have a hard time remembering, you can write it on your palm, LOL.

  22. “How far from the East Coast did that storm originate?” The storm originated in Asia, came across the Pacific, went across America. When it gets close to the cost, the cold continental air begins to drift out into the ocean and a new low forms and “explodes” in sometimes a period of only a few hours.

This article from the National Weather Service at NOAA has a pretty good tutorial on what happens in that region of the country during these storms:

    http://www.erh.noaa.gov/lwx/Historic_Events/md-winter.html

  23. Bordo,

You really should get treatment for your PDS.

  24. A scientific hypothesis needs to be testable. If we slam these uranium atoms together a high speed, we will get nuclear fission. But with AGW, everything proves it: hotter, colder, more rain, less raing, etc. What a joke!

  25. Quite frankly this assertion from this MSNBC reporter is just to ridiculous to comment upon. Surely he can’t truly believe people are that stupid to believe his nonsense. His obeservations and reasonings are not only laughable but would be a great Saturday Night Live Skit. Ooooops I forgot they probably believe every moronic word he spews. LOL LOL LOL

  26. I heard they are having too little snow in Canada. So maybe this event does not prove anything. It is just a freak storm. They happen.

  27. “A scientific hypothesis needs to be testable.”

Correct. To date not a single forward projection from the climate models has proved accurate. They are often modified so that they “backcast” (opposite of forecast) what has actually been observed, but their forecasting accuracy has proved to be something along the lines of 0% accurate. They rarely get the direction of the climate change correct let alone the magnitude of it.

The average annual temperature of the Continental US has, for the past two years, been within a couple of tenths of a degree of the average between 1901-2000.

The continental US climate has not changed in the past 100 years. Yes, there have been periods of warming and cooling, the most obvious is the roughly 60-year PDO (Pacific Decadal Oscillation) cycle which is currently in the “cool” phase. But overall, climate in the US has not changed and the past two years have been “average”.

  28. We really should re-institute tar and feathering.

  29. CONVOLUTED

The saddest point isn’t how stupid their lack of reason makes the propagandists. Look at those who believe their LIE.

  30. So, crosspatch, El Nino (aka unusually warm water in the Pacific) contributed to the severe storm which is hitting the East Coast? I guess this means a regional observation of weather doesn’t necessarily give you the big picture of what’s happening globally.

  31. Why idiots are running this country? I don’t know. If cap and trade passed 5 years ago, the snowfalls today would have been used to deceived people that they are doing something good to the environment.

Al Gore is 10 years late in perpetuating his lies… and God is good.

  32. Here’s whats really behind the current cold weather and all that snow..The snow is white… Which makes the snow racist. Since global warming is racist because more whites contribute to the economy thus causing more carbon, it makes since that Whites caused global warming and with the snow being white it’s all YT’s fault.. Thanks MSNBC…without the garbage that you spew out on a daily basis I don’t believe I could take a crap on a regular basis…..

  33. crosspatch is right on.

If this ‘theory’ were true, why have we not seen a steady progression of global-warming induced snow seasons. These are the same experts that predicted hurricane seasons of increased intensity after Katrina. When they are caught fudging their data, tweaking their models and shutting out the voices of professional dissent, their religious converts continue to blindly support them. This is intellectual fraud, not science.

  34. AT one time the U.S.A. was a ice cubes.Maybe “God,nature or Earth was saiding He,She or it was in charge of the weature and not higher Taxs.

  35. OMG Richard, I never connected the fact that I don’t buy into the whole global warming fakiness, I’m white and snow is white, makes me a racist. My God, I have enough guilt from the fact that I’m white and I think the won’s policies suck as*, which automatically makes me a racist of epic proportions. How much are you people going to throw at me at one time!! Just say that I’m a Robert “KKK”Bird supporter now and get it over with already…. :)

  36. I meant Byrd, caught up in the moment and made a spell check error. Plus I’m snowed in.

  37. *ROFL at Anna’s spot-on rant… but you left out that you’re also to blame for the earthquake in Haiti… Hugo Chavez said so, he’s buddies with Sean Penn, Sean Penn thinks Obama is the smartest man in the country if not the universe, Obama would likely agree… so it MUST be true that Haiti’s earthquake is the fault of conservatives (but only those of European descent)*

  38. crosspatch be wary of Tom.

  39. From Mr Phillips from the AFP website:

Despite the fact that a Pew Foundation poll showed Americans rank “combating global warming” dead last on their list of priorities, President Obama used his recent State of the Union speech to once again demand passage of his cap-and-trade legislation. They even wrote a blank line in the federal budget labeled “allowance for climate policy” to keep secret how much they plan to tax and spend via cap-and-trade. So, the cap-and-trade fight is not over.

Even worse, Obama is not waiting for Congress. The president is now intent on using the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to bypass Congress and move full steam ahead to enforce the Left’s global warming agenda”

“February 10, 2010 – Obviously ignoring the Climategate emails showing widespread fraud in the “global warming” scam, the Obama Administration is rushing ahead to create a new federal agency to monitor “climate change.”

Ironically, a global warming hearing that was scheduled to take place this week has been cancelled because of the blizzard that recently hit Washington, D.C. and shut down the federal government.

The new global warming bureaucracy was announced on Monday by Commerce Secretary Gary Locke and Jane Lubchenco, head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The bureaucracy will operate in tandem with the National Weather Service and the National Ocean Service.

According to Luchenco, “Climate change is real, it’s happening now.” Secretary Locke added: “Whether we like it or not, climate change represents a real threat.”

  40. Bordo,

The previous man-generated global warming catastrophe was perpetrated when GEICO cave men’s wives got angry with them for staying out late and burned their bras. That smoggy conflagration caused the mastodons and saber tooth tigers to fart in cadence all at once. That’s how the last Ice Age ended.

Obama will be reading that from the presidential teleprompter tomorrow in front of a thousand retired Canadian gay government employees in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.

Put that in your bong and smoke it.

  41. Corporal Vere,

    Bwahahahaha!

  42. Luchenco, “Climate change is real, it’s happening now.” Secretary Locke added: “Whether we like it or not, climate change represents a real threat.”

Translation: The new cap tax will raise the prices of gasoline and home heating oil by $4 a gallon. Like it or not you’re screwed. Bend over. Here it comes again.

  44. Oh!

    I b-b-blame Bush!

  45. Is there anyone here who is a Constitutional lawyer or who know one? Wouldn’t it be a hoot if some savvy lawer instituted a class action suit against AGW as a religion being supported by the Government — as in a separation of church and state issue. AGW is apparently not falsifiable – that’s a characteristic of a religion, not a scientific theory.

  46. Corporal Vere,

you missed an opportunity to use a Military Acronym
    BOHICA. LOL

  47. MC, Thanks I forgot that one. One of my co-workers (RIP) a Cuban refugee introduced me to that one. He had first hand experience with what these filthy liberals are trying to do to us.

Things are getting FUBAR in a hurry – that FNG in the White House!

  48. Ya can’t fix stupid.

  49. By that logic, no snow at Whistler for the Olympics means Global Cooling, right?

Actually, the real scientific cause there is that they forgot to ask Al Gore to come out ahead of the Olympics and hold a GW summit.

  50. Ok time to get the DEA involved, someone’s put Crack in their KoolAid.

BTW, this global warming/climate change is now dumping snow in BC just in time for the Olympics.

  51. If you have an agenda and don’t mind playing fast and loose with the truth, if facts are just obstacles, you can then make just about anything bear out your hypothesis.
And if there’s willing recipients to believe it, you have an instant crisis to manipulate.
    What a traveshamockery.
    Worthy of Gore.

  52. This is priceless:

“The thinking that warmer air temperatures on the earth a higher air temperature has a greater capacity to hold moisture at any temperature.”

Huh? Does he even have half a clue as to what’s wrong with that statement?

  53. I grew up in VA just 2 cities outside of DC. What gets me is that it was the norm for us to get buried in snow every 2-4 yrs. Happened like clockwork there and no one ever seemed to care (other than yay no school this week! Lets go tunnel through it, build igloos, and have some awesome snowball fights). But now all the sudden its something to make a big deal out of? Granted I have not checked history to see just how much of a difference this winter has been for that area compared to the 70′s/80′s but not being able to find your car buried under the snow is not unheard of for that area.

  54. wanumba, what part of that statement are you challenging?

  55. hahaha

    Go get them, Glenn!
