Former Governor Mitt Romney was assaulted today on a flight out of Vancouver. He was sticking up for his wife when a passenger physically threatened him.
The Globe and Mail reported, via Free Republic:
Republican politician Mitt Romney was physically threatened by a violent passenger on an Air Canada flight leaving Vancouver this morning.
Mr. Romney, who has been in Vancouver since Friday for the Olympic Winter Games, did not respond to the attack. Instead, he allowed the airline crew to deal with the incident, according to his spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom.
Mr. Romney, 62, and his wife, Ann, were sitting in Row 15 of the economy section of the Embrarer 190 airplane, waiting for the plane to take off when the incident happened.
The man sitting in front of Mr. Romney’s wife dropped his seat back and when Mr. Romney asked him to move it upright for takeoff, the man became “physically violent.” Another report said that the man tried to strike Mr. Romney.
“Gov. Romney did not retaliate,” said Mr. Fehrnstrom.
Mr. Romney was not injured. The pilot returned to the gate and the passenger and his bags were removed by the RCMP.
Huck?
Governor Romney is widely credited with saving the Salt Lake City Olympics in 2002.

Let us review the ‘facts’ of this incident.

6] White American older Male, with wife, in Canada – a notoriously liberal country that supports Islamic jihadi’s within it’s own borders.
After reviewing the facts, it appears Mitt Romney was wrong in saying anything and he was lucky not to be arrested. He needs to recognize that he’s a target, and accept his position in Canadian society.
opaobie commented:
It could have been an attempted “dirty trick” to lure Romney into a fight and get him arrested or at least muddy up his political career with a “scandal”. Apparently he was too smart to take the bait, and the flight crew were alert enough to intervene quickly and foil the plan. I wouldn’t put anything past the current unhinged Leftists running the Democrat smear machine. They are beneath contempt.

What?! No private jet? Alert AlGore! Someone is making him look bad…..and fat…and stupid. Okay, it isn’t hard to do that. But here we have a billionaire Republican who can manage to ride with the “peasantry”.
Why do the imperial Democrats have to fly alone, reclining on leather couches, watching flat screen TV’s, and sipping Charles Heidseck out of Waterford flutes?

I bet it was a hippie idiot junkie from Vancouver. It’s a regularity over there.

Sounds like Mr. Romney handled himself well. His wife should be proud.

I wondered how they were going to try and sneak Joe Biden out of Vancouver after his motorcade hit Peggy Flemming…

Bruce,
Mitt’s bound to be the default choice of RINOs, but that doesn’t make him a RINO himself. His values and his economic perspective are solidly conservative. He’s a proven manager and executive.
Unfortunately, he’s a mediocre politician. Last time around, he had plenty of opportunities to catch McCain and he couldn’t do it. He can’t debate, can’t express himself in sound bites, can’t give a memorable interview, and can’t deliver an effective speech.
Too bad. He sure looks like a president.
Ozwitch commented:
I bet this person in front of Romney didn’t even know who he was. There are people in coach who just have to put their seats back no matter what. The fact that it was before takeoff inclines me to think it was just some jerk wanting to try it on with the aircrew, rather than a personal attack against the governor.

Welcome to flying in the 21st century.
I had similar encounters. Just in December, when I was in Frankfurt changing planes from Graz to Tokyo, I ran into this Canadian who I eventually called “jackass” because he really was that.

Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin won’t get the nominee in 2012. Ann Coulter said Palin won’t be the next President because she isn’t conservative enough so as Romney. Palin is going to campaigning for McCain in March. The conservatives are not happy with Palin.

Romney did well. Did not know he was 62.

I’d say Mitt is solidly conservative, except for Romneycare/
Socialized medicine in Massachusetts was a colossal misstep that he’ll have a devil of a time overcoming during an electoral tidal wave primarily driven by an entirely predicatable – and healthy – public reaction against government overreach.

I think Romney is a good and decent man. He was the token republican in MA. They need one to blame all the screwups on and it is usually the governor who really has no power in this state. As for the medical care issue, this state knows it is a failure but the msm keeps stating it is such a success….go figure!

” except for Romneycare/” a disaster as it is, we’d be remiss to ignore the tinkering of deval patrick. add that along with the stats in ma -repubs [pols] being scarcer than hens teeth [10% or so of the elected].

Do you think it could be because Mr. Romney was paying for his own airfare while the imperial democrats always find a way to travel at the expense of the taxpayer?
Liz commented:
Yep, Romney and his lovely wife fly economy. Sure could use a fiscally prudent guy like that in the White House……like NOW already. Get Imelda Marcos and Wagyu beef boy out I’m saying.

The fact that he was flying economy class (like the rest of us) is very impressive.
Let’s recall:
Ms. Pelosi commands our airforce to taxi her :
children, grandchildren, neighbors?/ gardeners? (landscape artists- sorry)/ cooks? (chefs- sorry)/ nannies?/personal trainers?/detox specialists? and God knows who else…
with her coast to coast while WE foot the bill for her alcohol, food and entertainment.
She does deserve it, though. SHE is more equal than we are.
Mr. Biden only travels in a high speed convoy (at least 2 3??? of which have been in accidents just this year).
Mr. Gore, Mr. Clinton, et al only travel by private jet, possibly on our dime.
Heck, even the Hollywood “elite” who care more about the world and people than we do travel in their own jets.
It says alot that Romney and his wife

It is a little silly to not fly first, at the very least as a matter of easier security. Still, the point he’s trying to make is well taken.

Occam’s Razor:the simplest explanation tends to be the best one. In other words, it sounds like an unpleasant experience that Gov. Romney handled with grace, not a liberal plot to provoke an incident.

Romney is awesome and a decent man. He is smart and fiscally conservative. I think he would make a great president. We don’t need another rock star in the White House. We need someone with the smarts and the ability to turn our country around and save us from the unions which are causing are jobs to be sent overseas. Romney could work with the business community to see what it will take for them to bring back manufacturing jobs.

I agree with “Go MO Red” – Mr. Romney is top notch and would make a great President.
Noting he is not flying a private plane even in this case.
Mr. Romney should be given a fair opportunity in the GOP Primary. I am sick of the fashion, and Mr. Romney is the real deal. A true success via hard work in the Private Sector, who knows the Free Market.
