Massive 8.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Chile- Tsunami Alert Across Pacific (Video)

A massive 8.8 earthquake struck Chile this morning. –At least 78 people were killed.
The quake hit the second most populated region near Concepcion.

A CNN expert announced that the tsunami wave height may reach 60 feet.
The AP reported:

A devastating magnitude-8.8 earthquake struck Chile early Saturday, shattering buildings and bridges, killing at least 78 people and setting off a tsunami that threatened every nation around the Pacific Ocean — roughly a quarter of the globe.

Chilean TV showed devastating images of the most powerful quake to hit the country in a half-century: In the second city of Concepcion trucks plunged into the fractured earth, homes fell, bridges collapsed and buildings were engulfed in flames. Injured people lay in the streets or on stretchers.

The Pacific Tsunami Center issued this warning–

SEA LEVEL READINGS CONFIRM THAT A TSUNAMI HAS BEEN GENERATED WHICH COULD CAUSE WIDESPREAD DAMAGE. AUTHORITIES SHOULD TAKE APPROPRIATE ACTION IN RESPONSE TO THIS THREAT. THIS CENTER WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR SEA LEVEL DATA TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT AND SEVERITY OF THE THREAT.

Hawaii is preparing for a coastal evacuation.

UPDATE: The earthquake in Chile was 1,000 times more powerful than the earthquake in Haiti.

Oh, yes, why didn’t we all join hands in Copenhagen to enter into a treaty that would not affect the weather, but would bankrupt our country and the major emerging economies?

Maybe its because our population is seeded with enough people who can do basic chemical and engineering calculations to prevent the confirmed non-math-majors from ripping us all off.

Gladly, and keep my friends in your thoughts. One works for an international company headquartered in the quake area… he just brought his wife and 1-year old down… and I haven’t been able to get in touch with him. Other friends are in Santiago. No news.

aside from the smaller quakes in CA and the huge quake that
hit Chile, there was also a huge quake off the coast of Japan..

Series of Small Earthquakes Strike Central
California as Huge Quakes Rock Japan and Chile

sort of forms an obtuse triangle with
Hawaii in the cross hairs so to speak..
