Jon Stewart poked fun of his appearance on The O’Reilly Factor this week. During the segment he also mocked bloggers for blowing stories out of proportion… including this one (around the 7:00 minute mark).

However, the headline he pointed to from this blog was entirely appropriate and ended up being a major embarrassment for Martha Coakley and the elitist in the White House.

  1. he’s just mad cus he didnt notice it. so many jokes coulda been told about that one but, like they say, there just isnt anything funny about Obama. Really?

  2. The zero has a severe character flaw we can exploit. His arrogance and hubris can not handle ANYONE mocking him nor laughing AT him or his assinine and damaging policies. Laugh at him, ridicule him, and watch the fun. This tactic works. Slows him down and makes him screw up more. He’s there but he is finding getting what he wants is a little harder in a representative republic. LOL

  3. Blowing things out of proportion is one of Stewart’s schticks, however his complaint here is that Jim and other bloggers are informing the public. When you already know the back story you are less likely to laugh at his (often very good) jokes.

Bottom line – Stewart’s show would be funnier if we were less informed. None of us want to witness Stewart in a Beverly Hills (or Scarsdale) retirement home cursing “that damn Jim Hoft – He ruined my Palin Schtick!” but that just may be a pay-per-view event in 2033.

  4. At first I thought that Barry “O” was a joke too. But by January, 09 it wasn’t funny anymore.

  5. so the the unemployment rate drops to 9.7% without adding a single job to it….and adding about 800k more jobs that were lost last year than previously thought…..who’s gonna be the first dem to try and make those numbers seem like good news?

  6. The sad thing is too many liberals actually believe the Stewart show reports the news. One could believe the state run media far more than stewart show information.

  7. Sliderblaze,
Turn on CNBC if you want to see the positive spin on the numbers and on Keynesianism in general, although the switch of on air crews at 9:00 am eastern may have changed that. Btw, Santelli is doing the heavy lifting on the reports, 10.7% unadjusted seasonally.

  8. Jon Leibovitz. Is he ashamed of being a Jew? Would he be less popular if he used his birth name? Is it better in America if you aren’t perceived to be a Jew–and why would that be, Jon?

  9. Either Jon is stupid, or he wants his kids to suffer in the future. Maybe someday, he can explain to them, that instead of doing something to stop this train wreck, and leaving them with a great country, he can explain he was too busy encouraging Obama to destroy some more. Your kids won’t escape this Jon, they will be left with the mess, funny huh? Maybe the next terror attack will land by your house, because Obama didn’t take it seriously, funny huh? What makes you think you’re going to escape the damage, huh? If the economy collapses and the dollar collapses, do you think somehow, your dollar will be safe, right, Jon’s money will be safe, everyone else will be wiped out, but not Jon, he’s special.

  10. Somehow it seems appropriate to post this in a Jon Stewart thread.

    “It’s a joke name, sir”

    http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2010/02/025528.php

  11. Meanwhile, the day after Jon was on O’Reilly, MSNBC’s Morning Schmoes were criticizing the lighting on Jon vs. Bill.

Jon just seemed like a miserable little man when his accusations didn’t come with any facts.

Just another day in liberal lala land.

  12. Seeing as some flunky on Stewart’s staff glances at this and other blogs here is something they should watch…

Memo to Stewart, his flunkies and the rest of the Corruptocrat MSM propaganda wing:

  14. Jon Stewart a trailblazer with no horse.

  15. Ah the liberal mind>Empty

  16. OMG, talk about thin skin. Quit whining. He trashed the left just as much as the right. I thought it was all pretty funny.

  17. Lenny
    February 5th, 2010 | 12:37 pm | #20

When did he trash the left, Lenny? Who, on the left, did he trash? I certainly missed it.

  18. And to top it of, the sob isn’t funny. He’s a palace guard, exclusively.

  19. Hello dum dums. Jon Stewart is not a politician, he isn’t an anchor person, or even a pundit. He is an ENTERTAINER. An actor. He got his start on MTV for pete’s sake.

Next, he has never tried to hide his religion since he took over the daily show. He mentions it all the time.

Next, liberals do not think The Daily Show is a news show. However, Conservatives think Glenn Beck’s show is.

Auntie – he trashes the left ALL THE TIME. You clearly have NEVER watched his show and probably DON’T have a sense of humor. It’s the difference between liberals and conservatives. Liberals can laugh at their own kind when they make mistakes. Conservatives just lie and defend them.

And call his show a waste of time, but he has plenty of Emmy awards to prove just how well liked his show is. No you all can go back to watching Rush and Glenn and the like and consider what they present to you factual news.

The Truth is Out There.. @ 1:48 pm #23

    yes it is..

but you won’t find it via Daily or O’Reilly..

as they are only interested in reporting “their opinions”..

at any rate, i’m sure you believe GB
made everything he reported on up..

ergo for you, the truth is still out there..

    February 5th, 2010 | 1:48 pm | #23

I’m a conservative, which blows your silly theory out of the water.
Steward has become more balanced over the past year. Maybe he figured out that it wasn’t a great idea to target only 20% of his potential audience. Maybe he just wanted to stop looking like a tool.

  22. BG-

It’s a comparisson. The Daily Show is a comedy show on comedy central. It’s for entertainment. The point I was trying to make is that the conservative pundit shows are the same. You can’t condemn Jon Stewart for what he does and then praise GB and O’Reilly and the rest for what they do. It is hypocritical to do so.

And yes, there are probably people who do think everything Jon Stewart says is true fact, but once again, the same can be said for the conservative pundits.

  23. TTIOT @ 1:48PM

“And call his show a waste of time, but he has plenty of Emmy awards to prove just how well liked his show is.”

    ROLF LOL!!!

The Emmys, Oscars, Pulitzers, Nobels, Grammys, etc. are ALL GIVEN BY LIBERALS TO LIBERALS. They mean NOTHING.

  24. Let ‘em have this one, Jim. They have an island, we have a nation, and I’m increasingly okay with that, as long as the Fed is stopped.

  25. Stewart is news if Michael Moore makes documentaries. Jon’s skewering of Olbermann was hysterical though, wasn’t it? His analysis of Republicans on O’Reilly was both offensive and defensive. Interesting that everyone else on FOX are bad guys. Didn’t he say it wasn’t a news network? From man whose comments are broadcast from Comedy Central?
It’s Pauline Kael’s comment after Reagan’s election “But I don’t know anyone who voted for him!” Pretty soon, Obama’s going to be like Carter, of whom Reagan famously said after Carter went on and on at a debate: “There he goes again!” Then Stewart will go after Obama.
Speaking of Olbermann take downs – read Iowahawk’s latest. Obama is Frank Sinatra in Ocean 11 cum Rat Pack with key Dems (everyone from Blago to Rahm have roles plus Chris Matthew as… I won’t spoil your fun!) robbing the Treasury. Everyone – ‘ya gotta tweet, trackback his brilliant version of Olbermann. Spoiler? Olbermann’s character is wearing a dress and has Mommy issues.
Another excellent Olbermann piece, post-Stewart, is on American Thinker. The author sees Olbermann as all the women I know see him: creep!

  26. Stewart isn’t a jokster, he’s a mocker. It’s easy to get an audience sucked into mocking when someone starts it, but it doesn’t achieve anything except puff up the audience’s collective ego by putting someone else down.

It’s also as easy as pie – practically brainless to do – because no one is perfect, everyone has faults. So, Stewart has an audience, but they aren’t informed, just self-satisfied at the end of his shows.

It’s A LOT harder work to gather news and commentary to inform an audience. Stewart doesn’t have the discipline or background to attempt that – and he’s got no reason to – he’s being paid a pretty penny to keep up the mockery, which now it seems includes the latest fax talking points to discredit the blogging New Media. So, he’s not operating out of his own originality, either. Skippable.

  27. Maybe we should be comparing Stewart’s national audience share with Gateway Pundit’s national audience share – at a fraction of the cost and the staff!

Maybe that’s what’s got him all cheesed.

Remember, Stewart’s mockery of ClimateGate was not that the “climate scientists” were WRONG and FRAUDS, but that they were LAZY because EVERYONE KNEW knew that Global Warming was TRUE – the “scientists” just didn’t do their jobs properly to document it correctly so Stewart was mocking them for giving the stoooopid Republicans a golden opportunity to make fun of it. Left was still smart, Right was still Neanderthals. No sea change after a collosal fake was exposed. No reflection, no reassessment, plenty of mockery of Republicans in case his audience was wavering with new doubt.

Right, Stewart. Pushing the Global Warming Socialist Taxzilla agenda even AFTER the FRAUD was TOTALLY exposed. How SMART and BRAINY is THAT?

He’s just another MSM political hack pretending to be an independent voice.

  31. I find that I am happier when I don’t listen to idiots…Who is Jon Stewart?

  32. Wow Stewart must have touched a nerve! I was happy to see him mock the little crazy conservatives here. I guess you guys missed that he pointed out blogs on the left and even MSNBC in that same bit…? Ah, but why wouldn’t you? You always ignore any news that doesn’t agree with your preconceived agenda.

Since you didn’t get it I guess I can explain. His point was that blogs and news sensationalize things. It had nothing to do with left vs right. He used the Huffington Post and Maddow. The only way you could see this as an attack on GP or the right is if you are incredibly stupid. That isn’t debatable.

  33. Bah,

    Recognize yourself?

    ‘Why are Liberals So Condescending?’

[Every political community includes some members who insist that
their side has all the answers and that their adversaries are idiots. But American liberals, to a degree far surpassing conservatives, appear committed to the proposition that their views are correct, self-evident, and based on fact and reason, while conservative positions are not just wrong but illegitimate, ideological and unworthy of serious consideration. Indeed, all the appeals to bipartisanship notwithstanding, President Obama and other leading liberal voices have joined in a chorus of intellectual condescension.]

    WaPo?!

perhaps they read the following & had an
epiphany (however short lived it will be)..

    Utopianism by any other name

[But communists could not be wrong. After all, their knowledge was scientific, based on historical materialism, an understanding of the dialectical process in nature and human society, and a materialist (and thus realistic) view of nature. Marx has shown empirically where society has been and why, and he and his interpreters proved that it was destined for a communist end. No one could prevent this, but only stand in the way and delay it at the cost of more human misery. Those who disagreed with this world view and even with some of the proper interpretations of Marx and Lenin were, without a scintilla of doubt, wrong. After all, did not Marx or Lenin or Stalin or Mao say that. . . . In other words, communism was like a fanatical religion. It had its revealed text and chief interpreters. It had its priests and their ritualistic prose with all the answers. It had a heaven, and the proper behavior to reach it. It had its appeal to faith. And it had its crusade against nonbelievers.

What made this secular religion so utterly lethal was its seizure of all the state's instrument of force and coercion and their immediate use to destroy or control all independent sources of power, such as the church, the professions, private businesses, schools, and, of course, the family.]

  36. @ Chisum great job countering any of my points… oh wait, you didn’t. And linking to some silly conservative “this is what liberals do!” piece isn’t a counter. If you are incapable of countering an argument, just say so.

  37. Bah, great job of reading my link.

Since when is the Washington Post considered conservative?

    I rest my case.

  38. @ Chisum what case? You never addressed any of my points. You just linked to a conservative piece (I never mentioned the WP, I said that article. or were you implying that was a leftist writing?!?)

I mean “Strange, but telling a joke by playing to ordinary people’s stereotypes of liberal weirdness is hardly the same kind of condescension as liberals, say, referring to ordinary Americans as coming from “Jesusland” or, more famously, “not voting their interests.” ” Yeah, that is clearly a balanced view…

Though I should probably point out that you might feel liberals are “condescending” not because they actually are, but because you take any disagreement with your ideas as condescending. This Jon Steward piece is a perfect example. He is mocking sensationalism in blogs and the news, it isn’t targeting the right or the left. The Huffington Post was one of the openers! You ignored all that and then threw a hissy fit when you saw GP. It wasn’t targeting you, you just failed to notice anything until you saw something you agree with.

Anyway, if you have a point, make it. If not, don’t bother linking to an unrelated article and pretending that somehow ‘closed the case’.

  39. You made my point for me.

    Sneering condescension and sweeping generalizations.

    So typical.
