Jews Flee Swedish City In Wake of Growing Anti-Semitism

This is tragic news.
Jews are fleeing Malmo, Sweden as anti-Semitism has become commonplace. Last year there was 79 crimes against Jews in the southern city.
Israel National News reported:
Violent anti-Semitism has become increasingly commonplace in Sweden’s southern city of Malmö, leading many Jewish residents to leave out of fear for their safety. “Threats against Jews have increased steadily in Malmö in recent years and many young Jewish families are choosing to leave the city,” said Fredrik Sieradzki of the Jewish Community of Malmö.
Last year, 79 crimes against Jewish residents were reported to the Malmö police, roughly double the number reported in 2008. In addition, Jewish cemeteries and synagogues have been repeatedly defaced with anti-Semitic graffiti, and a chapel at another Jewish burial site in Malmö was firebombed last January during Operation Cast Lead in Gaza. Many Jewish residents of Malmö feel that local anti-Jewish sentiment is linked with negative attitudes towards Israel.
In addition to its small community of roughly 700 Jews, Malmö is home to a growing Muslim population. However, local Jews insist that the majority of anti-Jewish sentiment, although certainly existent in the Muslim community, is coming from local Swedes.

The “local Swedes” in question is the socialdemocrat Reepalu and other leftists. The leader of the Socialdemocrat party Sahlin is also a big fan of Hezbollah and other groups like that.
Just to be clear, they dont speak for the average Swede, and Swedes are also leaving Malmö.
But considering that the Socialdemocrats have picked sides so clearly, I dont really blame people for thinking about leaving, when the party that might be in charge next year is so extremely hostile to them.

In 2007 I spent some weeks in Sweden and Norway and there is little doubt even in small towns violent muslims are taking control. Norwegian relatives and friends said they do not feel safe going to the center of the popualtion 25,000 town where they live after 6 pm.

Regarding anti-semitism, the Vatican gets in on the Jew-blaming. It’s very disturbing, at least to me, that the Vatican would make such a false statement at all, and particularly so against Israel. If they believe that siding with Islam against Israel will keep them safe from Islamic savagery, then they don’t know the Bible or the Quran at all.
As this blog is hosted at a Catholic web site, I wonder what the Catholics reading here, particularly American Catholics, think about the statement. That is, if you wish to share your thoughts about it and it’s not inappropriate to do so here. (IMPORTANT: This is not a jab at Catholicism or anyone’s faith in it. It’s reasonable that a Vatican statement wouldn’t necessarily affect one’s faith because faith and the opinions or statements of current church leaders aren’t the same thing any more than God and the pope are the same thing.)
