GOP Leader: “The President has crippled the credibility of this week’s summit by proposing the same massive government takeover of health care based on a partisan bill the American people have already rejected.”

Washington, Feb 22 -

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement in response to the partisan health care proposal posted online by the White House for discussion at the upcoming bipartisan health care summit:

“The President has crippled the credibility of this week’s summit by proposing the same massive government takeover of health care based on a partisan bill the American people have already rejected. This new Democrats-only backroom deal doubles down on the same failed approach that will drive up premiums, destroy jobs, raise taxes, and slash Medicare benefits.

“This week’s summit clearly has all the makings of a Democratic infomercial for continuing on a partisan course that relies on more backroom deals and parliamentary tricks to circumvent the will of the American people and jam through a massive government takeover of health care.

“The best way to protect families and small businesses in this time of economic uncertainty is to start over with a step-by-step approach to health care reform focused on lowering costs, and that’s exactly what Republicans are fighting for. The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has confirmed that the Republican bill reduces premiums for families and small businesses by up to 10 percent. The Republican bill reduces premiums by implementing common-sense reforms such as allowing Americans to purchase insurance across state lines. Despite their rhetoric to the contrary, none of the Democrats’ proposals – including the President’s – provides this much-needed reform in a manner that can actually be effective.

“Republicans are also standing with the American people by calling for health care reform to protect human life and not use taxpayer money to fund abortion. The Republican bill would codify the Hyde Amendment and prohibit all authorized and appropriated federal funds from being used to pay for abortion, which the President’s proposal would allow. Pro-life Democrats in the House have already pledged to vote against this provision. Health care reform should be an opportunity to protect human life – not end it – and the American people agree.”

The Obama plan proposed this morning still contains Senator Landrieu’s $300 million Louisiana Purchase.

  1. It’s official: the dems are going to war with the American people. The will of the substantial majority means nothing to BO, NP, and HR.

  2. John Boehner, if there was ever a time in your life when you REALLY need to grow a pair, it’s NOW.

    Not “No” — “HELL NO!”

  3. “House Republican Leader John Boehner: Obama’s Health Care Proposal Jeopardizes Summit”

I sure as heck hope so!!!!! The repubs need to tell them to go pound sand.

  4. As long as it’s mandatory and it covers the illegals, I don’t want it. The ideal of the government going into our checking accounts and deducting money for health insurance is unamerican.

  5. I hope that Boehner walks the talk. I wonder how he (Boehner) feels about Gingrich and other like minded rinos preparing a conciliation with the dems on health care. Gingrich needs to retire and go sit on the beach and watch the sunset on Cuba.

  6. I am so disgusted. Mostly today because we did our taxes and I want the government the f out of my life. (sorry for the f but I’ve had it).
Tell me what I owe and I’ll pay it but don’t make me dig into every aspect of my life looking for deductions and then tell me that you’re starting a whole new entitlement that will dig even deeepr not only into my pocket but my privacy.
It’s the privacy thing and the big brother government that has done me in.
Not just no Mr. Boehner, Hell No!

  7. ++

Boehner & the rest of the Republicans (some of whom are more like
moderate Democrats) need to take Rush Limbaugh’s advice & stand
up for “we the people”, tell the Democrats NO, the American people
don’t want this, NO!! the American people don’t want that, etc..

imo, the best CPAC speech evah!!

  8. A little off topic but today at the Governors’
meeting with obama he tripped over his tongue.
He’s not so articulate when the pressure is on and he forgets who he is supposed to be.
Better save a copy before it disappears to wherever the rest of his bio is hidden.

  9. Republicans should not go to the summit. They should put up their bill right away. Present it, if the Democrats refuse it outright, show them as the obstructionists. Every senator, every congressman, every public spokesman needs to show off the Republican free market plan and then ask how can we have a bipartisan summit when the Democrats refuse to even hear our suggestions. Show the Democratic party as the poseurs to bipartisanship that they are. And get every lawyer who can be mustered to challenge the legislation, use every procedure available to block it.
