George Lopez called Sarah Palin a “la cabrona” on national TV this week. He also asked his audience, “If she’s president where’s she going to write Ahmadinejad? On her cleavage?”

I have to admit I watch Lopez’ monologues pretty frequently, but more in a “I can’t stop looking at that car accident I’m passing” kind of way. Between his inherent racism (he thinks because he makes bad latino jokes that he can make bad jokes about other races as well), the strutting, the idiotic, contrived tongue-wagging, and the fact that most of his jokes aren’t even really jokes (I find myself often asking “what was supposed to be funny about that?”) make it a fascinating look into how NOT to be a comedian.

I watched a couple episodes of Lopez’ talk show recently, and it was a trainwreck. This is a guy who needs seasoned writers and producers to keep his schtick in line (I enjoy watching reruns of his sitcom for this reason). Now that he doesn’t have Sandra Bullock to keep a rein on his ethnocentric id, all his little tics–such as making fey sniggers at his own jokes–are being painfully exposed.
Plainly speaking, he’s not all that funny anymore, and if I want to watch Latino-centric TV, there’s always Telemundo. I don’t think even Carlos Mencia would rip off from him these days.

These are the types of people who are constantly lecturing the nation about ending racism. But then they perpetuate it with their endless race-based comments and rants. In the case of Lopez its about Hispanics; in the case of folks like Chappell or Chris Rock, it’s about blacks.
I’ve found it’s almost impossible to raise a color-blind child (they are when they start out) due to this kind of influence. You pretty much have to unplug the TV and the computer, and then what do you do when they go to their friends’ houses?

Did you listen to Rush’s show when he was talking about this? He used the word in reference to Rham knowing that this is exactly what would happen. The MSM would run with snippets of his show. When I first starting dating my wife I said something about something Rush said. She couldn’t believe that I listened to him. When I asked if she had ever listened she said know but “her mom told her….” So I asked her to listen one day. She immediately recognized his satire. I would suggest that you either start listening or if you do go back and read or listen to the show for that day.
