Dana Perino Breaks Down the Liberal Lies About Trying Terrorists on US Soil

Of course, it comes as no surprise that when the libs talk about the hundreds of terrorists tried on US soil they are not being honest. Dana Perino breaks down this argument and dismantles Team Obama’s wacky decision to try KSM and other 9-11 terrorists in a public US trials.

Trying Terrorists; Some Facts
When it comes to trying terrorists on American soil since 9/11, let’s all work from the same set of facts. This morning we’ve heard three people in the Sunday shows talking about the “hundreds” of terrorists that we have tried in US courts and hold in US prisons – as if KSM was just some regular Joe terrorist. Some facts:
First, the only civilian trial of a 9/11 terrorist was Moussaoui who was arrested before 9/11 had even happened and before the President had authorized detaining terrorists as enemy combatants.
Second, Moussaoui had his trial while the entire military commission system was under sustained legal attack by left-wing lawyers, which put all military commission trials on hold. So he couldn’t have been tried by military commission back then any way.
Third, the trial was a circus largely because the defendant was uncontrollable and used the attention to spout hate against the US; the prosecutors were unfairly accused of misconduct, though the judge gave some credence to the accusations; and they couldn’t even get the death penalty even though he eventually admitted he was supposed to be the 20th hijacker. The Moussaoui trial is hardly viewed as a model of success.
Richard Reid, the shoe bomber, never had a trial, as he pleaded guilty. And his arrest was just one month after President Bush authorized detentions of enemy combatants – the system was still being set up. He also could not have been tried by military commission because of the left-wing legal assault on the system.
As for the “hundreds of terrorists” -that figure encompasses every type of terrorism charge DOJ brought in 8 years and have nothing to do with 9/11, nor were any of those people foreign terrorists captured overseas as part of the war on terror. Those terrorists were held at Guantanamo Bay as enemy combatants with the intention of eventually trying them in military commissions.

Thank you, Dana. Democrats love blurring the truth…and I have been making these exact same points for months. The Democrats have changed course on this…this is NOT the Bush policy. And they don’t want to even take credit for their own mess.

Having never been a Dana Perino fan, I believe she must be given credit here, not sophomoric condemnation.
While stuck in an airport on Sunday morning I watched the posers she alludes to, most notably Juan Williams. Perino should have called them each out by name since they were lying on national TV.
And I wouldn’t be so kind as to call it ‘blurring the truth’ since these people have never been interested in investigating the truth.

Anyway, thanks for clearing the air. These are facts that I should have known but for some reason just forgot. We (especially me) need to be reminded of these things from time to time. Remember, it’s the lies of omission that they use most effectively.

This is confusing. Have any terrorists held at Gitmo been tried in civil courts? Why doesn’t she just say no foreign Islamic terrorists have been tried in civil courts? This is a very poor clarification.

Wow. Thanks, Can this be. Dana Parino is a dim bulb. Sorry, but I think so. We are not obligated to support dim bulbs. She penned the reasons for a military trial with a lawyer over at NRO. She didn’t think this up all on her own.
I am a down the line social and fiscal conservative Roman Catholic who does not support Obama’s radical agenda. I do not vote Dem ever. I am a professional free marketeer economist, working for years to get govt out of utility regulation.

no, Moussaoui was the only terrorist directly involved with 9/11 that
did not get sent to GITMO because he had been arrested pre-9/11..

besides, there have been other Islamic terrorists tried in civil courts, WTC 1993 for instance.. iow: before we knew better, not that Obama hasn’t set US back to the days of the world, such as it was, placating the Barbary Pirates (Muslims cruising for others treasures & white christian slaves)..
however, (as far as anyone knows)
none were directly involved in 9/11..
