Bill O'Reilly Supports Gun Confiscation During Weather Emergencies (Video)

Bill O’Reilly interviewed Stewart Rhodes, the founder of the Oathkeepers, tonight. During their discussion O’Reilly supported gun confiscation during hurricanes. He told the Oathkeeper that his views on the Second Amendment were “extreme.” Bill O’Reilly stated clearly that any mayor – such as in New Orleans after Katrina – had a perfect right to confiscate guns because they had to maintain “control.”
Huh?
Last I checked, the Second Amendment doesn’t mention anything about severe storms.
For the record, I support Bill O’Reilly on several of his positions. Not this one.
More… Glenn Reynolds added: That’s funny. O’Reilly calls the opposing position “extreme,” but such gun confiscation is illegal under federal statute, and as a matter of constitutional law; in fact, the city of New Orleans lost a lawsuit over gun confiscation during Katrina. But then, O’Reilly’s no libertarian, to put things mildly. And he’s consistently weak on the law, also to put things mildly. Still, he should have been better briefed for this show, as he came across looking like a fool, and making his “extreme” guest look sober and well-informed by comparison.

I had to turn the show off after the pompous ass O’Reilly spouted this nonsense. He tries too hard to be fair and balanced, and misses the mark repeatedly.
The background footage showed an old lady being roughed up by the NOPD, taking away her defensive weapon, and the fool O’Reilly claims it is justified!
I’ve got to stop leaving Fox run through the evening. Bill O has jumped the shark for me, and Hannity is close behind considering the RINO after RINO he has as guests. Hell, I’ve been enjoying Greta’s show more, since she’s gone PUMA.

Apparently in O’Reilly’s world, the U.S. Constitution can be suspended when the government feels it is necessary. That’s terrific. That power would never be abused. How is it ever justified to confiscate guns from law-abiding citizens? Once again, O’Reilly is another moron that never makes the distinction between criminals and law-abiding gun owners. They conflate the two groups and it is an insult to those of us that are legal gun owners that want to protect ourselves and our families from scumbags.

What happened in New Orleans was an outrage. The whole point is, if a state of anarchy exists, I want my guns and I want my law abiding neighbors with guns to have their guns too. By taking the guns away from law abiding Americans the cops in NO made the situation worse. How can you protect yourself against the roving criminals if the cops take your guns?

OK, that made me laugh.
I guess the Founding Fathers simply forgot to include that language in the Second Amendment. While we’re at it, let’s “correct” the Second Amendment and also add the language about having your firearms confiscated when your home sports team loses a big game. After all, that’s a pretty emotional moment for some sports fans who happen to be gun owners, too, so mayors from those cities whose teams lost should have the ability to do that. Right O’Reilly?

May we note that NYPD, on 9/11 in New York City with no warning, devastation literally raining down on people’s heads, and a sizeable percentage of their officers along with firefighters just GONE in hardly more than a blink of an eye, did not engage in such pathetic behavior?
In a place as badly run FOR YEARS as New Orleans, the police department was full of incompetent crony hires, not professional career people. A week’s warning and the city leadership dithered and did nothing. The criminal behavior of a part of the police department was just one of many proofs of a general mismanagement. In contrast, the professionalism of the NYPD was precisely because of YEARS of good management.
So, certain parts of New Orleans were teetering at the edge of anarchy because the mayor bungled his duty in what should be charged as criminal negligence, and the failed city government decided to disarm the lawful public instead of going after the miscreants, who included POLICE.
In ANY general crisis, even with a good department, the police are LESS likely to be able to respond because they are being stretched beyond normal conditions. With piss-poor policing, the trouble is compounded. An armed public is a self-defending public.

What about the decent people they disarm before the rotters are disarmed? Having been involved in law enforcement for 28 years I can assure you that if I was in NO during Katrina (or any time, for that matter!), I would want every weapon I own handy….to protect me from the outlaws and the COPS. The street cops there are among the worst I’ve ever seen anywhere in the country.

I’m glad “extreme” is in quotes because there’s nothing extreme about Oath Keepers or its founder, Stuart.* Nor is Stuart ill-informed. So, O’Reilly didn’t make Stuart look well-informed;he only revealed how libtarded he is…with or without comparison to anyone else.
Regarding Oath Keepers’ connection to the Tea Party, they’ve been speaking, by invitation, at Tea Party rallies/protests around the country since the first Tea Party protests last April. I haven’t visited their site in a few months, so maybe the Tea Partiers have been distancing themselves from Oath Keepers and I just don’t know about it yet. It seems plausible, though, as it appears the Tea Party is being swallowed up or hijacked, whichever you prefer, by the GOP.

Speaking of pompous putzes, Beck warned the Tea Partiers to distance themselves from “birthers” if they want to be taken seriously. Short memory, there, Beck? The Tea Parties were formed by a bunch of people who were tired of not being taken seriously.

While I am not ready to throw Bill completely under the bus, he did get this one wrong and I think he knew it. As the discussion progressed, Bill seemed less confident in his argument.
What concerns me most about today’s society, not just Bill’s argument, is the suggestion that COMPLETE adherence to the Constitution is extreme. Society seems to have bought into the fact that principles ought be modernized in some way to “fit” current times; this notion is not only absurd, it’s extremely dangerous.
Men and women of character need not worry about difficult decisions in life; principles are their guide. Character is revealed by the decision to trust in principle. Our Constitution along with the 2nd amendment, are not meant for personal interpretation.
Finally, Bill referenced looters who were armed; not only should these criminals have their weapons taken, they should be arrested. However, I fail to see how criminals have any connection to to the rights of abiding citizens OR the need to “bend” the Constitution?

New York had worse casualties in less time, no warning and no “shooting and looting” rampage.
There was no “shooting and looting” rampage in Mississippi next door, and Katrina smashed up thru the entire middle of the state, far more damage throughout than Louisiana endured.
The New Orleans city mismanagement was pathetic for YEARS before Katrina. It was the city government that put into place the conditions that left them wide open for lawlessness.
And then that very same INCOMPETENT and CORRUPT city government decided to disarm LAWFUL citizens.
Surprised they were organized to achieve THAT. They weren’t organized for anything else useful.

Well, once again the left is showing their belief that military, ex-military, and law enforcement officers that believe the constitution is the law of the land are domestic subversives. If you look at the oath taken by military folks upon enlistment they are required to disobey any unlawful orders. I believe in the Oath Keepers position that they will not obey any orders that are in conflict with the US Constitution as should any American. The US Constitution is the law of the land, as far as I know no authority exists for anyone including the President of the United States to suspend the Constitution.
I don’t see how anyone of reasonable intelligence can reach any other conclusion upon reading the Constitution. If you read the oath taken by all military members, they are required to “defend the Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and domestic”. They are charged to make the decision whether an order is legal or illegal to their own peril. This oath is taken by and applies to the lowest private and highest general.

First he tries to get Palin to go after Rush. Then he tries again. Now he’s after the 2nd amendment for weather emergencies when that is exactly the time private weapons are called for – both personal protection and that of your neighbors if they’re liberals but are getting ransacked or raped and you want to come to their aid.

As a longtime registered Freeper who happens to be black, tonight wasn’t a surprise to me. O’Reilly is always trying to paint himself as above the partisan fray.
Back in 2007, when Daily Kos and HuffPo were under fire for its members wishing painful death and cancer upon President Bush and pundits like Tony Snow and Laura Ingraham, O’Reilly tried to equalize the situation by saying the right wing has its “hate sites” too, naming Free Republic specfically. In his defense of that statement, O’Reilly ended up making up a racist comment out of thin air (“I hate blacks,” someone supposedly wrote), attributing it to an unknown Freeper.
Needless to say, this fostered distrust of O’Reilly that continues to this day.
As for tonight: The OathKeepers spokesperson was composed, prepared, and was able to immediately support what he believed with logic and fact. But BO’R couldn’t allow him to escape the lions’ den without a mark – people might think he was a hardcore righty! So he mumbled that schtuff about “That’s a pretty extreme position” lest anyone get the idea that he was anything but The Guy Who is So Always On The Fence Looking Out For You.

I saw the episode when it aired and I was shocked (shouldn’t have been) by O’Reilly’s position.
Now, one other thing. I thought the ‘oath keepers” of whom I hadn’t heard of before, was refreshing.
At first I was a bit alarmed; an organization that only admitted law enforcement and ex-military? But when I found the purpose – completely appropriate!
I don’t like this trend how law enforcement demonize guns – it seems they want a monopoly. Law enforcement in general is getting to be more intrusive, more arrogant and more drone-like. They are becoming pawns of government confiscators. They are less interested in protecting and more interested in processing (ticketing and arresting) that results in income.

What irritates me most about O’Reilly is his “kissing up” to Obama. He’s constantly whining about wanting to have him on the show again. When he did before, all he threw him were softballs. Well, I’ve watched O’Reilly for quite a while, and was sickened by his position on the 2nd. Weapons are the only protection available when civil disorder threatens….and, yes, that may mean killing those who threaten your family. Would you be willing to watch your wife or daughter being raped by some roving gang? So, there it is, and O’Reilly has other folks responsible for his security. The rest of us have to deal with our own security as best we can. O’Reilly has finally shown that he is a liberal, and that’s sad….

Bill came off as a loon, not the other guy. And I was interested to see the oath keepers because a lefty had called them a right wing extremist group the night before.

During Katrina police started to confiscate guns from law abiding citizens simply because of a couple of fabricated stories by the MSM. The MSM did everything they could during Katrina to sensationalize the event and the police bought into the hysteria hook, line, and sinker.

Back when Fox first started (and before the conservative blogosphere really existed), O’Reilly played a useful role and even had some decent shows. Now he’s such a pompous, bloviating pinhead I can’t bear to watch. Beck is okay in reasonable doses, but do your own homework and put not your trust in any man. I get my news on my own and I make up my own mind. I heard of Oath Keepers early last summer. If you get your news from television (even Fox), you’re way behind the curve. If you get it from talk radio, you’re still getting their “pickings” and are still a day or two behind. Check online yourself – and far more than just this website (although it’s one of my daily requirements!) if you really want to be informed. Decline and fall.

Why stop at weather emergencies? We want to maintain “control” the rest of the time, too, don’t we? I propose the following:
1. Increase the police force in all cities by a factor of 1000. (It will probably be necessary to hire policeman from outside the city, as policemen might have ridiculous right-wing qualms about using some of the following steps against people they know. Also, it may be necessary to hire some street gang members and neo-Nazi group members for the same reason).
2. Go door to door confiscating all firearms. All houses will be ransacked, all walls torn down, and all residents thoroughly strip-searched.
3. Shoot anyone living in, or visiting, a house with firearms, legal or illegal. Burn down the house with the bodies inside.
4. Also, shoot anyone owning such racist right-wing props as pick-up trucks (racist!!!), or having over 2 children (anti-abortion fanatics).
5. Every day at noon, require all citizens to attend a meeting at the town square to cheer the mayor (hereafter known as the Dear Leader). Each day, the 100 citizens cheering least loudly will be executed. So will the 20 cheering most loudly.
If that doesn’t maintain control, I don’t know what will.

Yup, I’m done with O’Reilly too. He’s just too willing to “compromise” the law if he “thinks” it’s wrong. He disagreed with the Weihl lawyer lady the night before about the ruling re. the 17yr old girl performing “art” even though she was reading from “the LAW” too. Either someone believes in the rule of law or not. Don’t like it, work to change the law. But don’t criticize a judge that actually rules IAW the law vs being an activist and making law from the bench. In the Oathkeepers segment, O’Reilly mentioned that the Constitution allows the President to suspend Habeaus Corpus seemingly as justification for suspension of fundamental rights during emergencies. WRONG! First, the authorization for suspension of the Writ of Habeaus Corpus is found in Article I, Sec. 9. Art. I deals with Legislative powers. Second, it specifically states “…shall not be suspended, unless when in cases of REBELLION OR INVASION [emphasis mine] the public safety MAY [emphasis mine] require it.” So, the President has no such power. And, if public safety is the overriding government consideration, I would argue that the peaceable, law-abiding public would be LESS SAFE if denied their God-given, fundamental human right to self-defense. He even admitted that there were gangs of looters and criminals running around armed at that time. So, public safety is increased by disarming the peaceable, law-abiding citizens such as the OLD LADY that was IN HER HOME with a small revolver and was criminally assaulted by illegitimate government thugs and disarmed!? That’s nuts if you ask me. No government on the face of the Earth has the LEGITIMATE authority to disarm the people. “… all men are created equal and are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the ….” Since all men (including women!) have the Right to Life then they logically have the Right to defend that Life. O’Reilly is an elitist and he’s grown increasingly arrogant as his ratings have increased. We can get his attention if we can effectively bring his ratings down significantly. He’s definitely NOT “looking out” for the people! Nor is he supporting the US Constitution except when he “thinks” it’s right. You cannot pick and choose when or what parts you support. You either support it all or you risk loss of all protections found therein. Sorry for being so verbose.
