The White House says they are one vote away from ramming Obamacare through Congress.
The radical democrats didn’t learn a thing from the Virginia gubernatorial election. The radicals didn’t learn a thing from the New Jersey gubernatorial election. The radicals didn’t learn a thing from the Massachusetts election for US senator. They’re going to ram Obamacare through Congress no-matter-what.
And, Robert Gibbs still insists that Scott Brown’s win in Massachusetts is a referendum on Barack Obama’s radical policies.

I wish I could say I was shocked, SHOCKED! But I knew that there were only 2 responses to the MA election possible. First response, pull back to the right & hold the supermajority by being like Clinton. Second response, stomp on the accelerator like Thelma & Louise. After all, so many senators/representatives are retiring what do they care about re-election?

The way I read Beltway Bob’s lips, Pelosi needs one more vote in the House to pass the Senate version. If the House passes the Senate bill unamended, it goes straight to the President’s desk for signing. Game over.
The plan, of course, is to get something – anything – passed and then go back and make changes to bring it more in line with the House membership’s desires. Amendments after the fact, as it were.
Those amendments won’t happen anywhere near the way the House has been promised and there will be political bloodshed on Capitol Hill. Democrats eating their own.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the aisle, there must be at least a dozen challenges being prepared questioning the Constitutionality of Obama Care, just waiting for the President’s signature making it official.

Obama thinks he can just campaign his way out of this. What he can’t do is control Pelosi and Reid and his lies and their behavior is destroying what little believability they had left.

jainphx, the “left” in this case is in the majority. However you may feel about health care reform, the majority of our elected representatives want to vote for it, and a minority of them are standing in the way. Is that really how a democracy is supposed to work?
Let them hold the vote. If the American people aren’t happy about it, we’ll see that expressed in November.

We The People need to finally let these clowns know that enough is enough. Frankly I’m surprised that there isn’t more outrage and calling for Obama’s ousting from the oval office long before this.
Cap\'n Rusty commented:
Tom: You don’t understand how the American political system has been working so well for so long. The House can pass something 218 to 217 and get away with it, because they have to run for re-election every two years and we can kick them out quicker if they screw up. But the Senate is supposed to be wiser and more deliberative. They’re supposed to be the “cooler heads” that prevail. So, they serve 6-year terms, and only 1/3 get replaced each two years. Also, and this is critical, every Senator could always speak as long as he wanted … that’s what the “filibuster” used to be. A few Senators would feel so passionately that something supported by the majority was either wrong or un-wise, that they’d tie up the whole process with speeches for hours and days on end. It’s a form of minority rights, if you want to see it like that.
When legislation can be passed by a simple one-vote majority, whatever party is in power can completely change everything all the time. A few elections later, the other party gets back in power, and changes everything back again. A country cannot make any progress when all the laws change every couple of years. That’s why Banana republics never get anyplace.
A country of free people and free markets benefits when the laws change slowly, and when a large majority of the citizens support the changes that are made.
In addition, when changes are proposed that change something so fundamental as healthcare, to such a massive extent as has been proposed in Obamacare, it is very advisable that you have significantly more than a one-vote margin in adapting them. I don’t know if you’ve ever negotiated a contract, but when one party gets everything it wants and the other party gets nothing, the deal never works.
Tom commented:
Cap’n Rusty, thank you for the articulate explanation of the rationale behind the filibuster rule. I already understood the reasoning, but I appreciate your comment very much.
My point is more about some of the rhetoric I’m hearing about Democrats “ramming” something through the Senate, when in fact they already have more than a majority of votes. Let’s not pretend that something unAmerican, sneaky, or improper is going on here.
God bless us all and our different opinions about what’s best for the United States.

aside from them not giving a you know what, i can think of two
other possible reasons (there may be more) it will be passed..
1) they have a JUDAS (aka: RINO) lined up to take the fall.. one who will most likely be run out of town on a railroad headed straight for his newly acquired offshore “retirement” account..
2) they made a back room deal, give them Health Care & the Dems will take a defeat in Cap & Trade (upon which once the deal is consummated,
the Dems will proceed to pass Cap & Trade in much the same fashion, one thing i’ve learned is the Republicans never learn, but then again, they seem to working against each other in order to work together to scam “we the people” = i’m talking Congressional lifers, not new comers, they don’t really seem to have much of a choice in what their party’s up to either)..

simple explanation for that..
they aren’t trying to ram it through via votes per se, they’re going to ram
it though irrespective of “we the people’s” objections to it’s passing by the
majority or not..
and btw, if they ram it through against the ‘will of the people”, we’ll know
for certain that there’s something much worse than unAmerican, sneaky,
or improper going on..

Senator, I guarantee that I personally will do everything possible to inform patients and my fellow physicians about the dangers of the proposed bills you and your colleagues are debating.
Furthermore, if you vote for a bill that enforces socialized medicine on the country and destroys the doctor-patient relationship, I will do everything in my power to make sure you lose your job in the next election.
Respectfully,
Stephen E. Fraser, MD
Dear Reader, I urge you to use the power that you were born with (and the power that may soon be taken away) and circulate this letter to as many people as you can reach. The “Power of the People” can stop this from happening to us, our parents, our grandparents, our children, and to following generations.

Gibbs said they are 1 vote away.
That means the Democrats do not have the votes period.
They’re not going to be able to bribe the last vote this time…and the longer this thing goes, they will need more than 1 vote to ram it through.
I dare the Democrats to try to ram this down the American people’s throat. Republicans are going to take back the House in November as it is. If the Dems keep it up, they will lose the Senate also. I can’t wait.

If they pull this crap, they are going to see a response that will surprise even me.

The House bill originally only passed by two votes, didn’t it? And Stupak says he has 10 votes against any version without his amendment, plus the Republican Cao (the only GOP vote for the House bill) will surely vote against the Senate bill.
Pelosi surely didn’t have that many votes “in pocket” (Democrats who needed to vote against for their districts but who would vote with her if necessary), or she would never have agreed to Stupak in the first place. Election results in VA, NJ, and MA have not gone unnoticed by the 40-odd Democrats representing districts which went for Bush twice.
I agree it is probably just bluster, trying to “keep hope alive” for the left wing until they can finally just point to Republican intransigence and give up.

The thing to remember about the left side of Congress and the White House is they still believe they’re playing with house money. The White House doesn’t think that Obama has to triangulate by moving back to the center until next year, because Clinton didn’t do it either until his third year in office and won re-election, while most of those in the House and Senate who are demanding to stay the course are either in safe Congressional districts or aren’t up for re-election for the Senate in 2010.
So Obama isn’t going to change course until he, Rahm, Aexlrod and Ploffe start to think they need to in order to win re-election in 2012, and that’s stil a ways off (tto be fair, with Harry and Nancy running Congress, even if Obama did try to triangulate and at least appear to be moving to the right, there’s no Republicans in power in Washington to demonize other than the five members of the Supreme Court, and trying to make them the face of the opposition will probably work as well for Obama in 2010 as it did for FDR in 1937-38).

Interesting thing about nuclear reaction.
The fallout affects everyone.
So why do the Dims want to be irradiated????

Pitchforks and torches to the White House. That’s what it will take. Obamacare is more taxes that Obama doesn’t care about he is rich.
