Back in January 2009, before he signed his failed $787 billion stimulus bill into law, Barack Obama told America that everyone must sacrifice for the greater good. Everyone must have “some skin in the game.”
What he meant, of course, was that everyone would have to sacrifice to lift American out of the worst recession since the Great Depression… except for Barack and Michelle Obama.

With the nation still mired in a deep recession that has millions of Americans experiencing economic ruin, the Obama administration marked Barack Obama’s one-year anniversary as president by displaying a photograph of First Lady Michelle Obama wearing a $2,763 designer coat as the ‘White House photo of the day’ on the front page of WhiteHouse.gov.
Remember: We all must have “some skin in the game.”

If you think I’m crazy, think again. That’s how people with that grievance and welfare mentality think. That’s who we have in the WH. That’s who the people elected.

For those of you keeping track at home, $2,763 is 18.42% of what they donated from their personal account for Haiti relief. Just over 5 of those jackets would match the Obama contribution to stopping pain and suffering following a devastating natural disaster.
Of course, it follows that $2,763 is ~1.8% of what Gov Palin spent on clothes for an entire VP election campaign. Not being an expert on fashion, but noticing how she was already being hit for the poor/backwoods look she had from her days as Governor, I would think a respectable person that gives Michelle a pass on this would also give Sarah a pass.
Not that I really care. Just something to keep in mind when someone mentions the “greed” of conservatives.
(Although – one thing I am not sure of – did the $150k number for Palin’s outfits measure the total of what was spent – including sales tax? Assuming 7% sales tax, that would change the number to ~ 2.0%.)

I remember how the public raised so much flack about Jackie’s clothes and the cost (and we are talking major designer clothes, 5K-10K and this was in 1960′s dollars!). A lot of hers were given to her for publicity for the designers. And as the Kennedys had the money to spend on designer clothes, that was her business. I could cite many more such comments on this blog — do you really claim they’re not hateful. And I’m not saying many liberals aren’t just as hateful’ I’m saying two wrongs don’t make a right.

I see no differnce in going to town, finding the biggest drunk/druggie in town and giving him/her our credit cards, check books and pin numbers and what the democrats did in 08. You pay for your sins but in this case we’re paying for others stupidity.

Imagine if you will what the press would say about a Republican First Lady who wore $2000 coats and $1000 shoes during a deep recession/mini depression. Even if she paid for it out of her own pockets, the press wouldn’t contain its disgust for a woman who lives like Marie Antoinette while the peasants starve. It would show how tone deaf and out-of-touch those evil Rich White Republicans are with The People.
Of course, they’re not saying that about the FLOTUS because they’re all in Obama’s back pocket. All they will do instead is crow about Madame Michelle’s fine fashion sense and extraordinary beauty. Forgotten is their own Rich White Republican meme used against Cindy McCain and even more absurdly against Sarah Palin. Do you remember the faux outrage over the $150K the RNC spent on wardrobe for Palin and her family while the press cooed over Mrs. Obama’s alleged penchant for regular-gal retail fare from J. Crew, Target, and H&M? The former was meant to portray a wasteful hick on an extravagant spree, while the latter was supposed to portray someone in Touch With The People. Now that Madame Michelle is First Lady, it no longer matters that one cannot find $2000 designer coats at J.Crew, Narciso Rodriguez ready-to-wear at Tar-jay, or $700 tennies at H&M.

Who are these people that are on the internet nite and day?
I am retired and even with taking care of DH, the house, finances, cooking, cleaning, laundry, and the critters and rescue, I don’t even have this much free time.
