Just Words

This was brutal. It’s no wonder the state-run media and far left hate her so much. Sarah Palin smacks the Narcissist in Chief down a few notches after his confusing and insulting SOTU Address on Wednesday.
From her Facebook Page:
Last night, the president spoke of the “credibility gap” between the public’s expectations of their leaders and what those leaders actually deliver. “Credibility gap” is a good way to describe the chasm between rhetoric and reality in the president’s address. The contradictions seemed endless.
He called for Democrats and Republicans to “work through our differences,” but last year he dismissed any notion of bipartisanship when he smugly told Republicans, “I won.”
He talked like a Washington “outsider,” but he runs Washington! He’s had everything any president could ask for – an overwhelming majority in Congress and a fawning press corps that feels tingles every time he speaks. There was nothing preventing him from pursuing “common sense” solutions all along. He didn’t pursue them because they weren’t his priorities, and he spent his speech blaming Republicans for the problems caused by his own policies.
He dared us to “let him know” if we have a better health care plan, but he refused to allow Republicans in on the negotiations or consider any ideas for real free market and patient-centered reforms. We’ve been “letting him know” our ideas for months from the town halls to the tea parties, but he isn’t interested in listening. Instead he keeps making the nonsensical claim that his massive trillion-dollar health care bill won’t increase the deficit.
Americans are suffering from job losses and lower wages, yet the president practically demanded applause when he mentioned tax cuts, as if allowing people to keep more of their own hard-earned money is an act of noblesse oblige. He claims that he cut taxes, but I must have missed that. I see his policies as paving the way for massive tax increases and inflation, which is the “hidden tax” that most hurts the poor and the elderly living on fixed incomes.
He condemned lobbyists, but his White House is filled with former lobbyists, and this has been a banner year for K Street with his stimulus bill, aka the Lobbyist’s Full Employment Act. He talked about a “deficit of trust” and the need to “do our work in the open,” but he chased away the C-SPAN cameras and cut deals with insurance industry lobbyists behind closed doors.
He spoke of doing what’s best for the next generation and not leaving our children with a “mountain of debt,” but under his watch this year, government spending is up by 22%, and his budget will triple our national debt.
He spoke of a spending freeze, but doesn’t he realize that each new program he’s proposing comes with a new price tag? A spending freeze is a nice idea, but it doesn’t address the root cause of the problem. We need a comprehensive examination of the role of government spending. The president’s deficit commission is little more than a bipartisan tax hike committee, lending political cover to raise taxes without seriously addressing the problem of spending.
He condemned bailouts, but he voted for them and then expanded and extended them. He praised the House’s financial reform bill, but where was Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae in that bill? He still hasn’t told us when we’ll be getting out of the auto and the mortgage industries. He praised small businesses, but he’s spent the past year as a friend to big corporations and their lobbyists, who always find a way to make government regulations work in their favor at the expense of their mom & pop competitors.
He praised the effectiveness of his stimulus bill, but then he called for another one – this time cleverly renamed a “jobs bill.” The first stimulus was sold to us as a jobs bill that would keep unemployment under 8%. We now have double digit unemployment with no end in sight. Why should we trust this new “jobs bill”?
He talked about “making tough decisions about opening new offshore areas for oil and gas development,” but apparently it’s still too tough for his Interior Secretary to move ahead with Virginia’s offshore oil and gas leases. If they’re dragging their feet on leases, how long will it take them to build “safe, clean nuclear power plants”? Meanwhile, he continued to emphasize “green jobs,” which require massive government subsidies for inefficient technologies that can’t survive on their own in the real world of the free market.
He spoke of supporting young girls in Afghanistan who want to go to school and young women in Iran who courageously protest in the streets, but where were his words of encouragement to the young girls of Afghanistan in his West Point speech? And where was his support for the young women of Iran when they were being gunned down in the streets of Tehran?…
Everything seems to be “unexpected” to this administration: unexpected job losses; unexpected housing numbers; unexpected political losses in Massachusetts, Virginia, and New Jersey. True leaders lead best when confronted with the unexpected. But instead of leading us, the president lectured us. He lectured Wall Street; he lectured Main Street; he lectured Congress; he even lectured our Supreme Court Justices.

The economy grew at 5.9% in the fourth quarter that is all that matters. Obama will get the credit as the economy improves naturally and we will be stuck with him for 8 years.

Not true Tom, this is a short term spurt due to the infusion of cash from the FED. It is unsustainable, this is why there is talk of yet another stimulus. Look at the CIG numbers most of the growth was from G, government. The public gets it, but it will be a rough 3 years remaining.
Steve Cotton commented:
Tom, do you think you’re the only one that knows that the economy is moving despite Junior’s worst efforts? Have a little more faith in the American electorate than that. Before I sat down at the computer I was just thinking how pumped I was to be able to see Sarah a week from today in my hometown of Salina, KS of all places. She is speaking at our annual Chamber of Commerce banquet. First time in the forty year history that tickets sold out and in about a day and a half. Then they opened more tickets and I was lucky to get two, anyway, so I come to my favorite spot and wala, there she is, sticking it to the man. Or should I say boy child. Now Im even more jacked for next week. Only thing better would be if I could get her to sign her book for me.

I can’t wait to see Obama and the dems start demagoguing the next freight train lumbering down the tracks toward our fragiled economic recovery: rising gasoline and fuel oil prices. Gas is already creeping above $3 a gallon in some markets, and any global expansion of economic activity, coupled with continued frigid weather in the northern hemisphere, will only accelerate the trend. Dems will wail and gnash their teeth, but Palin — with well-deserved expertise in energy matters — can quite correctly point out that they squandered the opportunity presented in 2008 when prices collapsed to start aggressively opening exploration in preparation for the next surge, which is now looming. A renewed surge in energy prices is probably the most likely event to cause the dreaded “double-dip” recession. If people three-four months from now are spending $25 more per week to fuel their cars, restaurant sales, movie receipts, and other discretionary purchases plunge and unemployment again surges. Hold on.

Tom,
There is a HUGE difference between Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. I remember whenever Rush used to talk about Bill Clinton and would say that he marveled how Bill Clinton didn’t have Core Beliefs.
Whenever Clinton was in office the Republicans gained control of the pocket book by winning Congress. Bill Clinton signed off on many conservative efforts such as Welfare Reform.
Barack Obama does have Core Beliefs. Even if Republicans regain Congress he will undermine any programs that undercut his Socialist agenda either by veto or by Executive Order.
His rhetoric has caught up with actions and EVERYONE is hacked off at him. EVERYONE is realizing that his words don’t match his actions. They also see the Democrats are complicit with his agenda. He makes a speech about fiscal responsibility and the next date the Democrats increase the debt ceiling.

Jeff what do you mean by it being an annualized number? Can you explain that in lay terms? Why then do they say that it is for the 4th qtr? Thanks

And while they were blasting the AIG bonuses, Barney Frank said a few weeks ago nothing could be done about the Fannie May bonuses. I guess because they are friends of Barney, and Barack(Steve.) The truth is very ugly sometimes, and Sarah Palin is spot on with this. I commend her, she is what leadership is about. When the Republicans meet with him today, they need to have a very stern talk with this man, and tell him, they will not be sitting through anything like they did the other night. This man has been allowed to walk all over everyone, including the Supreme Court. Enough is enough already, he only has so much power.

I’m a Sarah fan – voted for her (not McCain) and applaud her calling out the Pretender —– but I’ve lost faith in her to a certain degree when she agreed to campaign for McCain in AZ. Especially after reading her book and how terrible the McCain campaign people were to her — McCain didn’t seem to lift a finger to control them. Come on Sarah – YOU don’t owe McCain anything – in fact, it’s just the reverse. You were the one who resurrected his campaign. Please rethink your support of him – he’s a hero, but he’s a terrible GOP Senator and we don’t need or want him.

In the third quarter, real GDP increased 2.2 percent.”

Jackie,
If there’s any issue where Sarah deserves some slack, it’s in the McCain race. Arizona conservatives understand that she’s expressing personal loyalty and gratitude, whether McCain earned it or not. She’ll draw crowds but McCain will win or (hopefully) lose on his own.
As a matter of political calculation, Sarah could hardly refuse to show up for the man who elevated her in the public consciousness. Snubbing him would needlessly burn a lot of bridges, and would give her critics a hearty meal. Let’s hope she performs well in a losing cause.

I can understand her campaigning for him, although I won’t be donating to John McCain. I think right now, we need warriors, and he just didn’t show enough fight for me during the Presidential election. I still don’t think he understands the danger we’re up against right now. There are no perfect people, who we will agree 100% with on everything, but I have to go with the person, who is willing to stand up against these communists.

Lets hope this is not a pattern.

So, Palin campaigning for McCain means Palin’s not perfect and we should ditch her now. Pffft. There is no perfect person and there is no perfect candidate…but Palin comes damned close. Should she run in 2012, Palin would have to do something far worse in the next three years than campaign for McCain’s reelection to the Senate.
In the meantime, Palin continues to be a voice for people like me. Similarly to imperfection, not everything she says is what I’d say, but she’s damned closer to 100% than anyone else and no online Eeyore can lead me to forget that.

No matter what the left may say about Sarah Palin (in Britain I’m too far from the action to have an opinion – she’s a looker though) she has an uncanny knack of connecting with ordinary people. There was another female politician with that ability not so long ago, Margaret Thatcher.
As for Barry, well he is doing his best to keep one campaign promise. He said he would make America more equal, now just as the very rich do not have jobs he is enabling the poor not to have jobs too.

Tom is an uninformed idiot who pulls things out of his a$$.
“The National Health Service (NHS), created by the National Health Service Act 1946 has provided the majority of healthcare in England since its launch on 5 July 1948.
“Margaret Hilda Thatcher, Baroness Thatcher LG, OM, PC, FRS (born 13 October 1925) served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990 and Leader of the Conservative Party from 1975 to 1990. She is the only woman to have held either post.”

Well said Lyle (#36)
Personally I think Sarah is plenty smart, and perfectly capable in dealing with the trickiness of supporting John McCain. It is important to bear in mind that Sarah is regarded by many Professional Republican politicians and their supporting pundits (David Brooks, Peggy Noonan, etc.) as a living incarnation of the Death Star (which is exactly why so many us practically worship her). Putting in a good and convincing show of supporting John McCain is actually important for Sarah’s future success.
