It’s a quagmire.
Speaker Pelosi told reporters today that democrats in the House lack the votes to pass the senate’s health care bill.
The Hill reported:

House Democrats lack enough votes to pass the Senate’s healthcare bill, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday.

Pelosi threw cold water on the idea that the House could muster enough support to pass the Senate’s health bill, which includes a number of provisions liberals in the House find distasteful.

“I don’t see the votes for it at this time,” Pelosi told reporters during her weekly press conference. “The members have been very clear.”

Democrats have been forced to confront how they could proceed with healthcare reform legislation after having lost Tuesday’s special election in Massachusetts to Republicans, giving the GOP enough votes to filibuster a bill in the Senate. One option under discussion has been passing the Senate bill, which would send the bill directly to President Barack Obama for a signature.

“We have to get a bill passed. We know that,” Pelosi said, adding that “unease would be a gentle word” to describe House members’ attitude toward the Senate legislation at the moment.

  1. Sign a bill and you will get a pink slip.
    This is pro choice.

  2. Permit me if I don’t shed any tears over Nancy’s quagmire. I’d like to offer a high five to those Americans who have been calling, emailing, protesting, attending town hall meetings, and the Massachusetts voters for this positive turn of events.

Nastiness eventually gets kicked in the rear. I want these self-serving, pompous people out of DC. They are the most obnoxious bunch of people I have seen in a long time…Chris Wallace said they were the biggest bunch of crybabies he’s seen in 30 years of covering DC. I add obnoxious to that description.

  3. The best part about her announcement is the announcement itself. If there was a chance that she could arm-twist two, three or four votes, she would. The announcement itself means that closer to twenty Representatives simply will not vote for the Senate bill. Period.

It would appear that at least SOME Democrats in the House learned a lesson on Tuesday. The White House certainly didn’t.

  4. Awwwwww, that’s a shame.

  5. “We have to get a bill passed. We know that.”

The American people apparently don’t know it. I saw a poll that said more would rather they do nothing than do this.

  6. This sounds like great news but beware the fake-out. Don’t stop what we have been doing until Obamacare is officially pronouced dead, its rotting corpse found to be too horrible for anyone to ever approach it again without Hazmat suits and that only to dispose of the 1000+ page body.

  7. Me thinks the Dems are running a tad scared!

  8. Be watching for back room deals and buy-offs. The past several months shows that this happens after the “Dims” declare they don’t have the votes.

Thank goodness pelousy is going to be gone come November.

  9. CNN’s story ended with a quote from Pelosi: “We’re not in a rush. Pause, reflect.”

What planet does this woman live on? We are all supposed to forget that last week the most important thing in the world was to pass ANY legislation, as soon as humanly possible.

  10. Gail F,

I think she is relying on the memory hole that is the lame-stream media to not recall that fact to anyone’s attention.

  11. Crap. If they can’t get this healthcare bill shoved through, what are they going to do, be forced to deal with the economy?

  12. Quagmire is good if you are the prey and not in it and the predator is!

Can someone run up and throw a bucket of water on Pelosi and see if she melts?

  13. Pelosi is not up for re-election in 2010, unfortunately
    These guys are http://www.fireandreamitchell.com/2009/11/21/a-list-of-democrat-senators-up-for-re-election-in-2010/

  14. ding dong the healthcare bill is dead, ding dong the healthcare bill is dead. Sing from the top of the building, sing it loud.

  15. Bobbi
Pelosi is up for reelection this year. She is the Speaker of the House, and all House members must stand for reelection every two years.
Of course, she is from San Francisco, which is as close to being a foreign country as you can get in California. . . .

  16. “We have to get a bill passed. We know that,” Pelosi said.

    LIE

  17. Pelosi: House Lacks Votes to Pass Senate Bill

Is that because it includes too many bribes or not enough?

  18. NOW it’s time to pause, and there is no rush. She must have an acute and critical case of political whiplash. I am LOL at her buffoonery.
