Barack Obama today said unemployment rates are pointing in the right direction.
Oh, really?
Maybe Rush was right. Maybe Obama really does want to destroy America?

Barack Obama told an audience today that the unemployment rate is “heading in the right direction.” The unemployment rate is currently at 10% for the second month in a row. Obama said it would not get over 8% if his $787 billion Stimulus Bill was passed. Unreal.

Actually, Obama MAY be right on this one. The rate this month is 10%. Last month was 10%, therefore the direction it is “pointing” is level. If you take into consideration that the month before that was 10.2%, then the direction is down.
Should we consider the months prior to October? Only if you want to blame Bush for something.

These unemployment %ages do not include those whose benefits have run out or are no longer looking for work or are in jobs below their level (including part timers).
The fact that it was a disaster when unemployment hovered around 5% for most of Bush’s terms and is now, at 10%, looking good tells it all.

The reason the jobless claims were down a little lower in December is because people were busy with the holidays. What will the One say when January and February figures come in? They will certainly be higher. And of course as Dwayne says above, unemployment officially at 10% and unofficially over 17% means, well…you wanted Change you got change.

Obama’s Labor Secretary said the bright part is the number of of temporary jobs taken in December. They sometimes lead to permanent employment.
Those are called Christmas jobs, Madame Secretary. They end after Christmas and aid in the administration’s overall goal of civil strife, dependence, and economic collapse.

The Dept of Labor counted temorary workers in the employement stats for December. This year a large number of unemployed professionals competed with college students for part-time seasonal positions.
Obama and his administration illustrate their numericall illiteracy (along with most of the press) by claiming a down turn is represented by a decrease of 0.2% (10.2% in November, 10.0% in December). Statistically the two numbers are equivilent.
The best that can be said is the uneployement numbers did not increase from November to December. However, watch out at the end of January. Those seasonal employes were mostly laid off and retail revenues were down 20-30%, which will lead to further workforce trimming in January and February.
If only we had a well educated, competant pres corp.

If you read the BLS report, 20% of the male workforce in the USA is unemployed.

Having covered these stats as a reporter, the BLS seasonally adjusts the numbers every month. So, in theory, the numbers take into account workers who are usually laid off or hired during different seasons like the Christmas holidays, summer jobs for kids, etc. That’s the theory. And it kinda works when the economy isn’t volatile. But the BLS will be the first to tell you that making an accurate seasonal adjustment is difficult in times like these. That’s one of the things that causes revisions when they get more data. And in times like these, you can also expect that some employers delayed announcing permanent layoffs until after the holidays.
While the WH can try to spin these numbers all they want, the bad news for the Dems is that there is a growing army of discouraged workers.
So, when employers do start hiring again, the discouraged workers will flood back into the job market and prevent the unemployment rate from going down significantly, if at all for an extended period of time. So, is there a good chance we could still have double-digit unemployment rate in the fall? Yes. Hopefully, that will help us take back the House. Let’s roll!

I wouldnt have even knew about this had it not been for a caller on the Rush show today. These poor drivers were all but abandoned on the road. If it had not been for the concern of Daimler, who leased the trucks to Arrow, they would have been abandoned.

About 661,000 people stopped looking for work in the US in December. If they had not done so, the unemployment rate would have gone up to roughly 10.4 per cent.

Today was my last day of employment after over 32 years as an engineer-scientist / R&D director.
When you became president, I was a leader of an organization with 143 PhD’s, as of today, 5 are still employed.
Monday, it’s the unemployment office for me to start my new career as a ward of the state.

Anyone who does not live in the “reality-based community” knows that unemployment has not “leveled off” it has gotten much worse. All you have to do is look around and see it for yourself. I see more and more businesses are going under, more and more empty commercial real estate with “For Rent” signs up, more and more people that I know unemployed. No one is doing well, including the “educators” I know who are actually looking at RIF’s and loss of their benefits and pensions because the state and local governments can’t afford them anymore. My friends retired “educator” brother is freaking out because he is about to lose his pension and he can not afford his 10 year old McMansion house without it.

We have to come together now as we face this situation. We can’t let this “success” of the administration get to us.
They want – and expect – us to need them. That’ll be their victory. Don’t let them have it.
Begin to think about what we can create or do in the months ahead to provide for ourselves and the needs of others. For sharing, bartering or selling. Things we all might need when more of us are without work and income.
Consider our basic needs first. Plan with family, friends and neighbors to meet those needs. Put canned food away. Start a garden with “good” seeds. Become as self-sufficient as possible. Get bikes for transportation.
Plan for a couple years of hardship. But look on it as an adventure. A time to learn new skills, and to see what we’re really made of.
They expect us to crumble and cry for help. They think we’re weak and needy. All we really need is them out of office.
And work to make that happen too.

Same for me but in Nov. After struggling for years to stay ahead of the off shoring craze, I finally succumbed. Engineering design for value is no longer a money maker here. Working my ass off for nearly six-figures and paying my taxes is no longer in my future. What I did enabled many people to have jobs and better lives but no more. The big picture that was my focus is pretty bleak. It didn’t start with the O but he stomped on the gas when the oil pressure light was on.
Sad thing is my son is very bright and has a serious case of engineers disease. As of now it looks like the military might be his only viable future.
The cost of all of these social programs is being deferred onto the next generation. The truth is there will be no wealth generating infrastructure left for them. And they will not care. They will be too ignorant to hate us, the last of the Engineers.

In a short conversation this noontime that CNBC apparently has omitted from their archives (Why’s that folks?) Rick Santelli was talking about a potential to effectively force money into the Treasury market.

The U.S. Treasury and Labor Departments will ask for public comment as soon as next week on ways to promote the conversion of 401(k) savings and Individual Retirement Accounts into annuities or other steady payment streams, according to Assistant Labor Secretary Phyllis C. Borzi and Deputy Assistant Treasury Secretary Mark Iwry, who are spearheading the effort.
Let me tell you what this is – it is an attempt to prevent the collapse of the Treasury market!
Forcing people into Treasuries as an “annuity” is exactly what Social Security allegedly is. Except that Treasury stole the money that was collected in FICA taxes and spent it!
The Corruptocrats have already held two Congressional hearings in the last 18 months about doing this. If you have a 401k you might consider cashing it out before the Corruptocrats get their greedy little mitts on it.
